Other than that it is within a typical winter destination region. The major town of that region is Gstaad. It is really posh, similar to St.Moritz. So you might want to have your Aprés-Ski in Gstaad. Always remember Aprés-Ski is the most important part of any winter holiday

We all like reading about others' travels, seeing their pictures, hearing their stories. You just seem to be a bit stuffy or snobby about your ability to afford international travel, or your paid vacations. You know exactly how many Swiss folks are here, if you had a specific question about railway symbols a PM would suffice. But you wanted to make it public for some reason. Never mind the members here who have posted about being laid off, haven't found a job, are miserable living with their parents, trying to find a job or getting "welfare".

Sorry to say, but I think you are very touchy here. I actually prefer to give advices this way. Maybe someone else will have the same questions at any other time. And I am a similar traveller, but well many Swiss people are big travellers.

Yeah, probably so. We've had other members ask about travels, best places to visit, best prices for flying or driving, that kind of thing. Those are fun things to read. I especially like seeing pictures of exotic far away places in the photo thread. I don't begrudge anyone their experiences, it's actually delightful when they share.

There's just something in particular about Dread's postings that isn't quite like anyone else's. Maybe I'm the only one who's noticed, or been vocal about noticing.

Well I suggest that you could PM Dread about your personal problems with him rather than us having a general discussion about travelling problems as PM.

Whatever it is, it can be true or not, I still think it doesn't belong in here. And I experienced users on other boards that would outshine everything Dread has done when it comes to showing off (by far).

Oddly enough, Loki helped me realize that! We used to argue about what the Average Joe meant, from personal experience or theoretical rhetoric. So yeah, I'm a moderately wealthy woman from a moderately privileged background. But I still feel average, and raise my kids that way, because that's how I was raised. It was considered gauche to be anything but "average", and restraint was a demanding force, and part of our privilege.

I recognize Dread. He just won't admit it yet. And a PM wouldn't cut it now would it.

Oh, I see no problem with that. It just seems to be strange that you start a wealth discussion over a travel question. I have to admit, travelling abroad is considered to be normal to me. Sometimes I forget how privileged I am to live in such a rich country.

Please stop projecting stuff (your kids?) on me. Stop faulting me for having to travel for work. And stop faulting me for doing the math that a mortgage in Manhattan was less than rent in Manhattan (and being right).

I don't see you faulting Hazir for living in two different cities. Or Loki for living in London for a while. Or Minx for buying an Android phone while a university student. Who said I was acting like a cash-strapped college graduate just because I wanted to plot out the costs of a fracking ski trip? And who said I'm not worried about having to support my parents, my dad in particular. You really know nothing about my life. This is demented and it's hard not to see this as dressed-up envy over what is actually nothing special at all.

I'm trying to plan an annual vacation and see if it's affordable. It's what lots of people people do. Life isn't a binary; just because I'm not squatting in the dirt doesn't mean I'm smoking cigars wrapped in cash.

Funny, I was going to post something similar. Holidays abroad are for us almost always cheaper (with some exceptions) than in Switzerland. But with the current exchange rates I doubt that will be true for Dread.

It's totally crazy, other than for traveling abroad this is really bad. Our company makes at least half of its turnover in EURO-land and it's about the same for most companies here.
