Sorry, but I've got to say that bad grammar really messes with my groove. It happens all too often.

Her and her boyfriend, him and me, me and my friend, we was going, we be doing that.....

Spelling and editing seems to have tanked, too. I end up yelling at the teevee's caption typists that make so many blatant mistakes. The other day the NYT had an op-ed on their front page, titled "Facism...." instead of "Fascism...". I sent them a correction notice. Come on, even typing facism alerts me that something is wrong. Kind of hard to ignore the red underlining. What is wrong with those editors?

Grammar doesn't get to me as badly as spelling errors! My son tells me it's because spelling comes naturally to me. He uses that as his excuse for having terrible spelling...it doesn't come naturally. But, I have to say he is much better with math than I am!

Like you, I have been known to send letters to various newspapers, and e-mails to news organizations, about blatant misspellings! Although, you more than anyone else here, knows how often I ask for the proper spelling of a word. Mainly because I am too lazy to go to dictionary.com and look it up myself!

That is something that pisses me off at teachers! They tell you, if you ask how to spell something, to "go look it up in the dictionary"! If I knew how to fucking spell it that would be wonderful. How can I look something up if I don't know how to spell it?

Maybe I had better elementary teachers, I don't really know. But I grew up learning to read by "looking" at words for their familiarity. With some phonetics thrown in for pronunciation, which makes it sound even more bizarre! I think spelling is predominantly a learned visual skill more than anything else.

Just yesterday my son asked me how to spell "ale". He had been "ail"-ing and wanted more Ginger Ale. Writing it on the grocery list didn't "look right" to him. That he noticed it visually tells me he's a natural speller. Probably why he's also taken to playing Scrabble, which is a very visual game.

I learned reading (1st grade only) thru phonetics, but my 1st thru 4th grade teachers were sticklers for proper spelling too! Even now, my 5th grade teacher still says to me, "if you can spell it, it might be a word". She did that with "smartassicle", so I spelled it, and now she uses it frequently! lol

Japan appears to have had a huge earthquake, 8.8 or 8.9. The ensuing tsunami looks grave.

They're now talking about tsunami waves eventually hitting Guam and Hawaii.

Sitting across the prettiest girl in the train and don't know how to distract her from her book.

  10. #2320
    You don't.

Because if you do that she'll hate you forever, so there's no point in interrupting her. None.

No forgiveness could be possible for such a reprehensible act.

Why do online news sites think you want to watch a damned video instead of reading the story yourself? If I wanted to see/hear the damned soundbites, I would turn on the TV. I want to read the actual words and not watch a stupid video!

    Very true, termite!

My groove is all kinds of kinked up because, for the 3rd night in a row...or is it 4th, I am still wide awake at 2:15 AM! Of course, my short term memory is still all screwy so I can't even remember how many nights I haven't been able to get to sleep at a reasonable time!

My dad just told me that last night (I was out at the time) there was a naked girl walking around our backyard, and just by random chance, he pushed aside the curtains, and he sees her, naked, about to steal my work shirt off the clothes line! Apparently she yelped, covered herself with her arms and fled. Unbelievable what some people do..thing is, around a year ago I had a nice jacket and shorts stolen from the clothes line, so it's a good thing that my dad caught her because I just bought that shirt recently

There was some sort of party/gathering of drunks behind us though, so we suspected that she came from there.

I was told to pursue the scientific educational line with weight on chemistry, physics and math to open a broad horizon. Now I'm doing terrible, and I fear that I will fail all three of them. Hence I have got to ask myself: how come I didn't just settle for a certain road and blast all my dedication onto learning it? Right not my education seems like an utter waste of time, although I know I just have to hang in there.
Tomorrow is like an empty canvas that extends endlessly, what should I sketch on it?

Sounds like she could have been the victim of either a nasty prank or something worse...either way if I was in her situation I would have grabbed your shirt too.

This thread has over 29,000 views. That's messed up. Do people just check in to see how miserable people are, or what?

I had one of those heated mother-son arguments with my older son. The details don't matter much. I'm just bummed out about it, even though it's considered a "normal" occurrence. [Says the parent and not the child.]

  21. #2331
Now I am seriously mad. The child-mother argument turned out to be a mother-father argument. Father being the ex. He's only talked to his older son a few times since he turned 18 years old. That was two years ago. But he calls me to ask why the younger son missed LaCrosse practice....after the kid had GI flu. Then he doesn't pay child support. Oh, it wasn't intentional, he's been swamped with work and his new house, and his new wife-to-be, and spring time is always "crazy". Yeah, he has to manage being a father in between his trips to Costa Rica, Italy, Florida, the Carolinas, even New York once a month to see some Opera. Wine tasting/journeys are another monthly tradition.

What a jerk. I finally talked to him on the phone, first time since October. He really has no clue what is going on with his children, or what they need from him. He's too focused on the end of the academic year, and making sure the house his girl friend bought is updated by their September wedding. Never mind that his own house is an eyesore and both sons are embarrassed by it, and they don't want to spend time there.

I am drowning in his debris. I am tired of carrying his baggage. I don't even recognize this man I married and planned two children with.

    Today I gave a deposition as a witness for the first time at a police station. The account I gave them roughly went as follows;

Last night I flew back from Istanbul to Amsterdam on a Turkish Airlines flight. As I boarded I noticed there was all sorts of equipment in the luggage bin over my seat so I placed my carry on bag in the bin immediately in front of the row I was seated in. As the plane filled up, so did the bins. Then close to 20 minutes after I had put my carry on in the bin the man who was seated in front of me, without even bothering to ask whose bag it was took my bag out and placed his own in. I protested to no avail. I was not going to get into some fist fight at the beginning of a flight so I did not argue with him any further but I simply called the assistance of a flight attendant.

She promptly came and told him basically that he had done something that was totally out of line. That won her a barrage of verbal abuse by my fellow traveler. Then a security person was called over. For reasons that will become clear later this person totally misjudged the situation and he pretty much gave the man what he wanted by offering to put my case in the overhead bins in business where I could simply pick it up while getting off. I didn't have any problems with that (besides being a bit surprised at how cautious they treated this obvious asshole).

We take off, mr 'my row, my bin' gets up and goes to the bathroom. When he passes me I smell a very obvious cloud of alcohol around him. And I think 'ah, that sort of explains it'. We fly on, I read a magazine and some chapters in a book. Chat a bit with the passenger next to me and basically everything is over as far as I am concerned.

But the protagonist of this story decides that things are not over; he has been treated horribly by 'blond cow with brown eyes' and he demands a form to file a complaint. I from my side decide to write a little comment on the situation to let TA know that I think the attendant has been consistently correct in her dealings with this guy. Service starts and I see that this guy gets at least three alcoholic drinks, (could have been more). The last drink is taken back again by an attendant at the urging of his wife while he goes to the bathroom again. As far as I am concerned I have reached the conclusion that this guy is a real loser and I laugh a bit about the complaint form he's waving in the air whenever he doesn't push the button to get service and/or attention.

After the 8th time or so, the purser comes all the way down to the back to tell him to not push the button again. She tells him that if he will ignore that order she will ask the cockpit to ask for assistance (I presume at Schiphol). Sure enough within a minute he pushes again, this time he is being ignored alltogether by the staff. Then his wife gets some of his sweet attention, from the corner of my eye I see something that looks like a shove, but another passenger tells me that he actually hit her. He then tells her that if she's not going to shut up it won't be a problem for him to deliver her back to her mother.

We land, and then I started to notice some odd things; we drive towards the terminal at a speed that is significantly lower than what I am used to on my flights to Schiphol to that runway. When we get to the gate, everybody gets up, but the door isn't opened.

Our hero is standing in the aisle and opens the overhead bin. He's being rather smugg about everything, and shows his complaint form once more to the attendant. That is the moment when the limit is reached for the other passengers around us. They start talking to him, argueing about his misbehaviour. Sure enough my suitcase comes up again.

He starts blabbering again how he had a right to do as he did because he was sitting in the row under the bin and thus had an exclusive right to its use. Then a young man who had been sitting next to him explodes, raises his voices and snaps at him 'so why did you take out my bag as well? I am sitting in that row too". (I had missed that because I was back in the pantry calling the attendant after my bag was thrown out). This is cue for bigtime asshole to try to physically attack the young man while shouting all sorts of typical turkish abuse at him. He is restrained by one of the other passengers, one of the attendants and yours truly.

Once the police gets all the way back, he is arrested. I volunteer my information for a deposition and am called later the same evening. Today I went to the station to read it through and sign it. It was worth the €5 I had to pay in trainfare to get there and back.

Oof, not the kind of flight anyone wants to have, but you did absolutely the right thing, Hazir.

To be honest, I kept waiting for something even worse to happen, but maybe I've been primed too much by movies...

I think it could have been worse, but unlike what he thought he wasn't really in a physical condition to inflict anything much on anybody. Probably if people would have left it at where it was once we were landed, he'd just had been one of those people eating my dust as I left the airport while they were still waiting for immigration. A bit of entertainment on an otherwise boring flight. My reasons to sort of ignore him were that I didn't think a person that drunk could be reasoned with anyway, and I felt a bit sorry for his wife. I know, many people talk big words when a man is abusive to his wife, but nobody is going to actually save her from that life (if she's ready to get out of it at all, to me she seemed the typical victim in an abusive relationship) and she would have been the one going home with an humiliated husband.
    Congratulations America

lol it was a new work shirt I bought (I work at Woolies) so it would have covered her rather well.

    Spring time insects.

A big fucking hairy black spider just sped across the desk and hid in the cabinet. In the speed of my one frightened gasping inhaled breath, she was gone as soon as she was seen. Not the slow moving type of spider, but the fast moving big fucking hairy type, whose legs blur into lateral rotors moving the big fucking bloated black thorax. She's waiting under my desk cabinet now. Waiting. Waiting until I forget about her big fucking black hairy thorax and rotor legs, so she can pounce on me again when she's not expected. This time with fervor, using her biting jaws to stab my flesh and speed away on hairy legs . Spiders do that, you know. They lay in wait and plan their attack for when you least expect it. And their baby spider eggs hatch and crawl in your hair while you sleep.

That's not just a simple itch you want to scratch on your scalp, in your hair, or on your feet. It's spiders. Millions of tiny black spiders that hatched from their big fucking hairy mother spider, the one that sped across the desk and hid in the cabinet.

  29. #2339
I watched a spider's nest hatch one time. It was on my bedroom window screen on the outside. It was fascinating in a horrifying way! I hate spiders!

Dammit, GGT! Now I got the itchies!

Don't blame me! It's the spiders, and their surreptitious ways. They plan it this way, hiding in webs or corners, under cabinets. They watch and wait before they attack. They send out tiny scout spiders first, to crawl in your hair. While you sleep. Then they hide in your shoes, waiting for your toes. The sneakiest ones send soldiers to hide in your blankets or coats or pockets. Waiting to bite you with their hairy jaws. Then they run away to their secret lair, laughing at your bites and welts. And then they make more black hairy baby spiders. By the thousands. Waiting for you....
