    Default Sad news

Stanley died Tuesday. We actually had to put him down. He was 12+ years old and dying of cancer. He was my dog, my buddy, and it was hard. I knelt next to him and stroked him and talked him all the way through it. It was pretty hard on my daugther too. He's been there with her for her entire life. I've never had to do anything like that before.

Sorry to hear it, Chacha. You did the right thing, though.

He was a beautiful dog. I'm sorry you had to make such a difficult decision.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way...

12 years? That's an old dog. You shouldn't worry about its death. You should see it had a nice life with you.

I'm so sorry! It's so very hard to put down a member of the family.

Stanley was a beautiful dog! Just try to remember that he knew he was loved and valued as a "human being" and family member. You know you gave him a wonderful life and home, and cared enough to make sure he didn't suffer at the end!

I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet.
I don't have a problem with authority....I just don't like being told what to do!Remember, the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow!RIP Fluffy! 01-07-09 I'm so sorry Fluffster! People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life! My mind not only wanders, sometimes it leaves completely! The nice part about living in a small town: When you don't know what you're doing, someone else always does!

I'm sorry for your loss too, Chamba.

    So, pets, huh?

Most of us have had some, or even better, grew up in a household that had 'em. Lil' furry bastards. Or slithering ones, or what have you, though personally I haven't met a soul who'd gotten very attached to a fish or what have you. (That said, I'd like to own an octopus! Those frakers are cool.)

You love them, though. Can't really help it. They're always there, hungry for your attention, pets, playing. Even gruff and tuff kitty-cats can't help but settle down on a lap sometimes and purr. Our old and demented sociopathic kitty still wuved sitting on my lap even though he pretty much mauled everyone else who tried to touch him. And then there's dogs.

Doggies! I'm more of a kitty-girl myself, but there's something about doggies that really gets into your heart. Kitty-cats are more like grudging housemates, but doggies for the most part seem to thrive on being your pal and companion. Attention-whoring, always apologetic yet adorable. One time our dachshund bit through dad's finger accidentally when he was holding a bone for the dog to chew, and he was so visibly embarrassed and sorry it was hilarious. He was such a stubborn son of a gun, most times though. I think he picked that up from living with two cats, fancied himself one too.

But then you get to the point where the bastards go and die on you. The dachshund in question got acute renal failure or somesuch one day, and holy christ that was the fraking saddest day ever. Of course my parents have to live in the fraking boonies, and don't own firearms, so we sat with the poor lil'feller for the whole damn day as he vomited and desperately tried to pee until finally at 10 ****ing PM we got him to a vet who administered a fatal dose. Buried him the same night.

Holding his head and looking into his eyes as he passed away was probably the most heart-wrenching moment ever. No more pain, no more fear, no more waiting and crying, but simultaneously, I was losing my pig-headed friend. I tried my very best to comfort him, and make sure he felt loved in the last moments of his life. Last favour, you know? I felt very hollow afterwards.

Last time I was visiting my folks, I said goodbyes to my kitty-cat, I don't know if I'll see him alive again, he's an old *******. I'll miss him more than most members of my family.

    tl;dr: Share dying pet stories!
The kitty-cat of the story is now also dead.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Sorry I missed this, but I would like to express my sympathy to you EK, it's a horrible decision to take and an even harder one to follow through.
    Congratulations America

    Chaloobi,
Sorry bro. The ex wife kept the dogs when we split because I don't have time to take care of them. One has a tumor the size of a baseball on his face and won't be living too much longer (Ralph, my golden retriever). Sadie, my Great Dane just had back surgery, and she's 10 years old. She won't be lasting too much longer.

I miss those animals. I can only imagine the pain you feel now. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear it Chaloobi, losing a pet is never easy. I remember a couple months ago when my dog escaped and was hit by a car. She ended up okay, but the girly scream I gave out lives with me today. Glad to hear he had a great long life with you and your family.
