Reproducing under controlled circumstances whatever causal relation you beleive to exist between two variables.
Another probably more likely explanation for why a homeschooled person is less likely to commit crime is because they are closer and more involved with their family, than their counterparts who spend hours away from their parents each day. They develop closer family bonds, have parents who are more interested in them, and get to know their own kids better etc...
Clearly there is some emotional stability in that, and helping any time they were to veer off the path (since they have that closenss to their parents), but I would like to add in order to really close this argument we'd have to establish that most parents who spend time with their kids are encouraging them to do things that are helpful for that child.
For example, would a parent be more likely to encourage a child to engage in the more risky activitiy of stealing, or to engage in the more secure activity of working for your income. Caring for their child's safety most parents would probably encourage the second.
Thus it makes that having a close bond to your parent, that even if they are hypocrits they'll likely encourage you to go on the straight and narrow and safe path of life, by in large.
I do think there is a connection between being homeschooled, and being less likely to commit crime/join a gang; however, it's more for the fact they're at home bonding with their parents verses the fact they are learning math inside of a house instead of inside of a building.
