IMO, if the media had highlighted how many westerners were NOT infected, or at any risk by the few who actually DID have Ebola, we'd be in a better place. It doesn't help when an "abundance of caution" means closing bowling alleys or bridal shops, hazmat teams are filmed "decontaminating" apartments, let alone mayors and governors (!) making whacky quarantine policies that get court challenges.
At this point nobody in the media has an incentive to spread the boring truth about Ebola in the US. There is money to be made scaring people and these days that's all that matters. Similarly, Republican politicians have every incentive to puff up the Ebola "crisis" so they can point to the Obama Administration as making America "less safe" and get some more votes for Republican candidates next week.
