They cater to pretty different playing styles. If you were playing Battlefield like it was Modern Warfare, you probably weren't getting much out of it. You can have the highest score in a match without making a single kill, and in general there's more tactics involved. Not really trying to convince you, it might just not be your thing.

Never tried the single-player version of Battlefield. Nobody plays the single-player.

Oh, I couldn't agree more. In fact I recently spent several hours trying to convince a bundle of fanboys that Battlefield is totally different to Modern Warfare. One is a tactical shooter and the other an arcade shooter, which rewarded lone rangers in the past, but in the end I failed as their tiny minds couldn't appreciate that you can indeed like both games should you want to.

I wouldn't say I went into the game with a close mind, but having said that I certain do prefer the faster paced games out there, which this game proved. I might give it another whirl at some point, but only once I've given MW3 a spin.

    Playing Uncharted 3.
I enjoyed it, but it just didn't hook me like the second one did.

The story isn't as good, and has some wonky pacing, and some of the set pieces, though awesome, feel shoehorned in a way they never felt with previous games. Some of the gameplay "enhancements" feel more like a step back too...new animations look pretty, but tend to make me careen around out of control too, and the new fighting mechanics are merely ok, and occasionaly cause frustration when you are stuck in melee, and getting shot up, because he now tries to grab instead of rolling out of the way.

Still a great game, it just didn't hit perfection like Among Thieves did.

I've read reviews talking about shine of the series rubbing off for some people while playing 3...

"In a field where an overlooked bug could cost millions, you want people who will speak their minds, even if they’re sometimes obnoxious about it."

  5. #1565
    Heh.

Yeah, it's weakest entry in the series for me, but I don't know..kinda like saying George was my least favorite Beatle.
They still do so much right that it's hard to slam them too much, and I'd probably not be so picky if they hadn't raised the bar so high in the previous games.

    So I'm addicted to HoMM 6 :/

On the third Haven campaign, where you've gotta fight them watery Nagas. How on earth do you cross water ?

Think theres a way to get a boat or sammink, but for the life of me I can't figure out how?

Didn't get that far yet. Life got in the way. Try here: http://heroescommunity.com/forumdisplay.php3?FID=20

HoMM is terribly addicting, terribly long, and terribly tiring, but in the end there's not too much to show for it. I played through the human or whatevs campaign of 5, and then saw how much there was left... and that was it for me... so now there's a 6? Might have to play it, sigh.

I would have posted that message three hours earlier if I didn't.

Of course. Timezones. I'm an idiot.

2 hours to go for me. Have the afternoon off, but I also do have a wall which needs to be painted today. Will be the quickest paint job ever.

    Reviews are indeed rather glowing.

D/Ling now - 41 mins and 44 seconds to go.

Still have barely scratched the surface only a couple hours in, and I abandoned the main quest right away, but it looks pretty good. I am a bit disappointed about how obviously consoleish the UI is, though.

Pretty game though. Seems harder than unmodded Oblivion was, which is a plus.

    Very minor world exploration spoiler:

Saw a giant. It saw me back, and didn't attack, so I thought maybe it was a friendly giant. So I went to try to talk to it. I soared impossibly high into the sky.

Pro tip: Giants are not friendly, but do provide spectacular deaths

Penny Arcade had a comic along similar lines the other day.

Played 4 hours into it and loving it.

Best thing that happened so far, I don't know whether this was a scripted encounter or draw of the luck:
    minor spoiler:
Walking to return that Claw thing I came across a lady-bandit standing in the middle of the road with a bow. I was planning to charge her since up close all she's got is a dagger. So there I am, charging, when halfway three other bandits jump out of the bushes, surround me and happily start hacking away at me, so I pause and turn, get to kill one, while the lady palts me with arrows and I get hacked down unceremoniously in seconds.

    Well played script/AI, well played.

Aye I'm about 4-5 hours in. Level 5.

A spoiler to your spoiler ..

    Spoiler:
I also went and retrieved the claw thingy. Have been playing with destructive magic, flames from hand. When fighting those Daugur zombie thingies, I was in a room which, it turned out, had flasks of flammable liquid hanging from the ceiling. Cue everyone, including me, going up in screaming balls of flame when said flasks erupted from my wayward fire.

I did the same, I must have missed them. Mental reminder, must go back and try that out.

By the way, really pleasantly surprised about the layout of the land, with the odd shack or mill in the middle of nowhere, towns and cities are really believable. All this food-preperation stuff, which I lack most of the ingredients really helps immersion.

When I visit that one guy, the other guy I was sent to by the first guy told me to go to (I went the imperial route when opted which door to take) I have to talk to him about houses.

    I wants one.

Yeh I've roasted a few lumps of meat on the spit. And made cabbage soup.

Have you tried mixing ingredients for potions? Alchemy?

I've looked at various combinations, but it always comes up with 'Unknown Potion', so I don't mix them as I don't want to waste ingredients.

  22. #1582
If you eat them you'll find out the first of their properties. You'll also experience that property, so maybe best to do so before going to sleep

You have to make a bunch of unknown potions to figure out their properties past the first. If there's any other way to figure out what they do (other than looking at a guide somewhere), I haven't found it. You pretty much have to waste some ingredients just figuring out what they're good for.

    Just killed my first dragon.

  24. #1584
Better than Oblivion, alchemy was ridiculously easy on Oblivion. Mix nearly any 2 food ingredients together to make a health potion and then sell it at an increasing profit. I thought of alchemy as simply making sandwiches.

  25. #1585
In oblivion your alchemy skill revealed properties. 25 revealed the first etc. Maybe works the same here.

I found a troll. No sense of humour, strong as heck and regenerating. I can run faster though. Straight into a bear I didn't notice (since the music was playing already)

edit: I like how you run into creatures that can take your face off with one swipe. Not like that level scaling nonsense where you have an even fight almost all the time.

Up in the the hills looking for the Elder-tree, and run into a dragon.
That bastard chased me up, over and all around that mountain, through sulfur pools, into a group of very surprised mages who joined in the fight (and promptly died), and after a good 20 minutes of hacking and running like hell, and hiding behind rocks, desparately trying to heal, finally took it down.

    THAT WAS FUCKING EPIC DUDE.

Yeah, I'm getting in a 1/2 hour at a time with Skyrim, really loving it...took a bit to get used to the skill system. Love the crafting.

I'm playing mage style, healing in one hand, blasty in the other Quite efficent so far. And now that I have a bodyguard (playing the story for a little bit gets you one) I feel a lot better off. (And you can access their inventory and make em carry stuff!)
