Thread: Gay, Bi, Straight

Bold doesn't look so great in the Blue format.

    Anyway....

But bisexuality isn’t a gender preference for both genders; it’s a lack of gender preference for either. For most bisexuals, the gender of the person they find attractive is substantially less important than who that person is. We’re not in the middle of the Kinsey scale; we’re off the chart altogether.
This goes back to the OLD theory that every human is "pan-gender". That we're more passionate about people's personalities and compatibility than their sex organs, but social norms and expectations get in the way.

It also sounds a bit like psycho babble tho, from someone who laments grouping people into categories, but wants a new one.

Should your sexual "orientation" be the most important factor of your life? It can be, if you choose it to be.

    Sounds Buddhist.

Our societies are very sex-oriented. Pretty hard to escape that. Even things like the Olympics, where pair skating is always a man and woman. Marketing is the obvious area, but even song lyrics reflect "the norm", and that norm means most people are heterosexual.

Trickier still when we look at how laws are structured. From adoption to marriage to spousal entitlements to tax credits. It matters, and those outside "the norm" don't have the choices you suggest.

Outside the "norm" doesn't create life so let's not fuss with the adoption thing.

Ok. for the sake of saying I did, I voted!

I know some women who were abused by men never could get over that, and only felt safe with other women.
I was at that point at one stage of my life. Luckily, because of great male friends, I was able to get over my fear of men in general. I will say I now have a knack for spotting an abuser at 3 paces!

Why wouldn't he, if his "sexual wiring" is geared toward women?

This thread made me start thinking about me, and my orientation. Hell yeah, I love men but I have also enjoyed a woman or 3 in my time on earth too. Does that make me bi, or just curious?

yes, of course. sexual attraction is innate, not learned.

Because straight couples raise straight children, right?
    Your search had no results.

Straight, but I think that was pretty obvious from the dating history I've posted about.

It gets worse. Not only do I see the implication that someone doesn't understand sexual orientation, or apparently how to compose a sentence expressing said viewpoint, but also the implication that people generally only have sex to have children...

Are you convinced that hatred and bigotry are never learned? And that hatred and bigotry can never affect sexual attraction? Are you absolutely sure that sexual orientation is never a choice?

Why does it matter if someone CHOOSES to be gay, or they are BORN gay? I've never understood this question.... people are gay, and if it bothers you why, get over it already.

I don't think it bothers anyone here. We are currently discussing GGT's assertion that gays deserve some sympathy because they have a hard time adopting children.

    1. I think hatred and bigotry is always learned.

    2. I'm not sure about affecting sexual attraction - maybe between ethnic groups but probably not between genders. Maybe in cases of extreme abuse....

    3. I'm absolutely sure sexual orientation is not a choice.

If you choose to be gay, then you are a sinner going to hell. If you are born gay, then either god doesn't hate homosexuality or god is cruel to the extreme. The faithful prefer the former, progressives the latter.

So you are saying then that homosexual parents necessarily abuse their children to the point that they hate the opposite sex to the point that they then 'choose' to be gay?

Are you implying that homosexuality is based soley on genetics?

My point is that homosexual couples do not deserve sympathy because it is more difficult for them to adopt children than it is for a heterosexual couple. Single people have similar hurtles to adopting and I feel no sympathy for them either.

So, because someone is gay, they don't go to heaven? That's new to me. Didn't we have this argument in CC? Sure, in leviticus it talks about it vaguely.... but we could go into psalms about some really fucked up ideas there to.

Well, of course there's the "Hate the sin, not the sinner" thing. But you know, god sees into your head, and every time you lust after another man, even though you don't act on it, you're still sinning. Coveting man. It's thinking, not acting.

    Anyway, the logic --

Should I give a damn as to whether being gay has a cause ? Because I don't really, and I feel even less of an inclination to explain myself.
    Congratulations America

That's. . . not necessarily true. Or at least not the whole truth.
