EasyJet
Interested in taking a flight from Germany to Nice, France. The best/only direct flight seems to be EasyJet.
I've always been skeptical of those super-discount carriers. I took an American one a few months ago and had a terrifying 60 seconds where the the plane stalled. And I'm always skeptical that the airports are random. Though EasyJet seems to be pretty clear in saying that the flight is from Berlin Schonfeld to the real Nice airport.
Anyone used them?
I'd be extra wary after the Aussie equivalent just went bust, leaving thousands stranded.

Use Easyjet anywhere between 1 and 5 times a year.
Most recently last weekend to fly from London Gatwick to Glasgow and back. They also helped return my passport which I lost on the flight up there. (see happy thread)
They are subject to the same maintenance and safety regulations as any other carrier in Europe, so are no more/less safe to fly than any other.
And, though it may have felt like it, there is no way you had an actual 60 second stall in a passenger aircraft, for if you did you would not be here to post about it.
Discount carriers are great. Easyjet was among the first in Europe with the no-frills cheap ticket. Get anywhere in Europe for a tiny percentage of what it cost to fly 15 years ago.
They are also now the UK's biggest airline by number of passengers carried, bigger than British Airways. Stelios Haji-Ioannou is quite the businessman.
Also, I don't get what you mean when you say that the airports are 'random'?

You're right, it wasn't a 60 second stall. The whole experience was 60 seconds. Basically the plane's nose suddenly shot up and we began to approach a stall. So the pilot did the right thing and increased thrust while pushing down the nose. The whole experience (sudden plane jerking up, approaching stall, then suddenly going into a dive) was about 60 seconds of people screaming and bugging out.
But anyway.
Sounds like a vote of confidence for EasyJet. I've just heard some of the discount carriers like Ryanair will say they are flying you to Nice, but actually you are going to an airport 80 miles away from Nice. But EasyJet seems to have an airport guide for the actual Nice airport.

Anyone want to crap on EasyJet before I book or am I good?
Use them multiple times a year, never had any issues.
Just be careful with costs, you might think they're the cheapest, but after buying the actual ticket, you need to add tax, pay for luggage allowance, pay to check in online (Which you have to do) which all adds onto the bottom line.

Only Easyjet? What about German Wings (quite decent) or Air Berlin ? It always pays to check out what deals e-dreams has. Most of the time their surcharges make them uncompetitive but they can set you on the trail of real cheap deals. Last year e-dreams enabled me to buy a ticket for my sister to fly business to Morocco for a price less than any economy ticket I could find.

Don't have much to add to what's already been said, Easyjet is decent, you get less service for your money (obviously), and they never lie about what airport they fly to so you can just check how far it is from your destination. BTW, I took the liberty of looking at flights from Berlin to Nice, and all tickets are way under 1000€, and not all are Easyjet (Lufthansa is cheap on that connection too, apparently). And way under 5 hours. So I'm not sure how you are searching, but you're not very good at it

Driving from Berlin to Nice isn't too great of an option. Especially because I'm going to Nice to rent a car. And you Yurps have expensive gas.
But I think I may have to skip the whole German/Nederlander part of this trip. But I am going to rent a car and drive around experiencing socialized health care and liquor whenever possible.

I hope that car you're going to rent in Nice is a convertible. Otherwise it doesn't count. BTW, gas is expensive in Europe, in France on the autoroute prices are tantamount to highway robbery, try to fill up at gas stations belonging to one of the hypermarché's like Carrefour (you'll still be paying close to $6 a gallon).

The answer to that is actually more complicated than you'd believe. Much as I acknowledge that some US/imperial units have their place in life, the gallon is not one of them.

I was going to get a convertible, but I dithered because for some reason I thought it would make me stand out as a tourist. Then the prices went crazy on convertibles. But the economy cars remained quite cheap.
But yeah, I realize the gas prices are going to be eye-opening for me. Even though I'm totally mentally prepared for them.

EasyJet had the only direct flights at not-terrible prices (though they jumped in the few weeks I took to decide). Except the Euro is still overvalued.
Now I'm in the mid planning stages. Curious what people think of:
1) AirBNB- A number of friends have used it and enjoyed it a lot. Considering trying it out in Switzerland if I end up going there (still unsure if I will). All my friends have had good experiences. Anyone here hear the same/otherwise?
2) If you could go anywhere in the south of France for two days, where would it be? Anyone think Lyon is a waste of time or actually cool?
I wish we had more French people here! But I'm hoping some of the other intelligent Yurps here will have some suggestions. Background: I have a car rental in the south of France for about ten days.

Lyon is a major city, and a bit meh.
If you're doing the South of France, there are a ton of places ...
You could do the traditional British thing and head to the beautiful Bordeaux regions.
Out that way too is La Rochelle on the coast - spectacular area. Isle de Ré.
Further inland is the Loire Valley, up to Sancerre, fabulous if you like your dry whites. Hundreds of vignobles dotted around which are excellent to visit. My ex-fiancée had a house in a village nearby so we would spend a lot of time in the summers around there. Loire is a bit more central than south though.
Then there's the South coast itself, Marseilles, Nice, Cannes etc. I'm not so familiar with these but again they're beautiful spots, and not too touristy before the summer season kicks in, as these are the places all Les Frenchies head for their vacations d'été.
And of course Monte Carlo. Go see the rich and famous, the Rollers and Ferraris, the Gin Palaces and 5 star casinos.
Otherwise, I've loved just driving around the south, seeing lovely random villages, eating French steak et frites in cafes. The roads are excellent and uncrowded.

Thank you for the confirmation that Lyon is meh. Sancerre may actually be perfect. I'm probably going to end up having to drive from Geneva to Paris for work, so Sancerre sorta fits perfectly between them.
If your ex-fiance is on AirBNB, I can rent it out and poop on something if you want.

Now, what the fuck is a kilometer and how many of them am I allowed to traverse per hour?
A la France, 130 of them per hour on highways in the dry, which reduces to 110 in the wet.
