Agreed, their maps are second-to-none IMO.

The former carries connotations that include mental error while the other explicitly claims any error is mechanical in origin.
That's what i'm getting at, the former doesn't include in it's definition any reason why the error exists. A punctuation error could be derived through mechanical malfunction or through a cognitive malfunction. That has nothing to do with what qualifies as a punctuation error. So GGT is correct.

Moving on... dealing with your second claim that it is more appropriate or precise to say a typographical error, I take issue with that statement as well. The difference between "your", and "you're" is not a slip of the finger. It's your brain grabbing the wrong word because it's grouping them by their phonetic sounds.

Which doesn't constitute a typo and is best catergorized as cognitive error.

So you completely ignored the second half of what I said in reply to GGT because you settled on it being a mental error. I know the difference between them, I did not grasp after the wrong homonym, I'd just typed "ypu're" and then corrected it to "you're" half a dozen words earlier in the sentence and my fingers followed the same pattern they'd engaged in twice in the last 20 seconds. Mechanical error. I was right here, the witness and perpetrator you arrogant. . . where do you come off taking issue with anything I say, jackass? Did you witness anything? Were you in my room watching me using some portable brain-scanner? Do you ANY reason whatsoever for challenging my narrative besides this asinine need to object to my contributing my own third-person "correction" on top of GGT's own vacuous issue with Loki's comment about my post?

I check crappy Dutch news sites like nu.nl or fok.nl, and for interesting news I check the sources. Other than that, sometimes volkskrant.nl or the BBC, sometimes the economist online (somehow my subscription didn't get automatically renewed, and since I never really got to reading it in the end I didn't bother to do it myself). I prefer reading a paper newspaper to be honest. Oh, and I frequently watch the NOS news on TV.

Hehe, funny that you consider Fok a news-site, it's a discussion site as far as I am concerned. I never bother with their frontpage, which is borderline nazi if you ask me
    Congratulations America

I don't read the reactions (that's depressing as fuck), and they post general news items and have a section for film news And you can sometimes win stuff on their website

Oh, I love the site, I have been on it for over a decade now. It's just their frontpage crew I see that way

I mostly took issue because it was an unnecessary clarification, and additionally they both could be correct at the same time. The idea of a typographical error explains how the error came to be, and a puncuatational error is describing what the error is. "There" totally two different classifications, it's not somehow less a puncuation error because the reason for it was mechanical. You should have left the comment alone because it was fine, or if you felt the need to add to it, you could simply added clarification, and explain why it happened as opposed to suggest that somehow your statement make's the other statement untrue.

As to whether a mistake made from muscle memory should be called mechanical, I'd leave it to a public poll, but I'd still vote it's an error in how your brain proccessed the infromation. Which is FINE, doesn't mean you have a bad brain, literally every brain does that. If you take a psychology class some have little tests that can exploit that "mechanism" in the brain if you will.

I'm not trying to piss you off, btw, it just seemed your comment wanted to discount GGT's statement, and I wanted to point out the two are not mutually exclusive, and you're both correct.

And yet you're fixated on what I posted and haven't made a peep about GGT correcting/discounting Loki's description of it as a grammatical error. No, I don't think so. You are wrong with your concepts, you're wrong with the factual narrative, you've just got no business speaking up at all. Bray elsewhere.

I'm really not sure where you get your news from (and some people think this discussion is off topic), but I stand by everything I said. My inclination is to continue the discussion for the sake of having the same definition of a mechanical error, but I see that's not how you're taking my comments. I don't want to turn from discussion to a flamewar, when it doesn't have to happen.
