That was a quick trip. Director approved my going, but then they discovered that the library is broke, or needs to appear to be broke. So the director unapproved it.

It was rather flattering watch my boss get worked up over that. She puts up a hell of a show standing up for my duties and training.

Survived my first night on call! Started at 3 PM, came home ca. 10 AM, a total zombie. 'nother shift tomorrow

Am slowly figuring out how to make use of my "idle" time to fiddle with notes, instructions etc. Was really on edge last night so I floated around in the hospital between the ER and various wards. Was visited by the ginger who brought delicious food <3 I kept waiting for something terrible to happen, and by "something terrible" I of course mean "acute 'millions of brain-cells dying every second you waste' stroke". Ca. 7 AM I finally collapsed, fervently hoping that I'd succeeded in cheating fate, fell asleep and had a nightmare about the stroke-pager going nuts but somehow I escaped.

And then the stroke pager went nuts just 15 mins before I was supposed to get off my shift. On the bright side, I'd forgotten to set the alarm so its hellish beeping was actually very timely. Moreover, it was a very effective stimulant. The sun seemed to shine brighter today. The walk home was blissful. On the down-side I was too knackered to do anything much once I got home, didn't take the opportunity to lie in the sun, and collapsed for real ca. 5 PM just before the ginger got home.

Still, it's been good, and tomorrow's gonna be better I think

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.

Its Friday, I'm looking at a 3 day weekend starting tomorrow, and the wife and kids will be gone until Monday night.

As long as I can figure out how to feed myself, this is going to be awesome.

Day 2: After a horrible incident where I severely burned my hand on a cup of ramen noodles, and a failed attempt at making mac and cheese, I've successfully coaxed the pets out of hiding and ate them. Its a shame I had to eat Mr. Kittenwhiskers. I've talked it over with the toaster and it agrees that had the microwave not gone into a rant about fake dairy products, I would have likely not proceeded to hit him in a fit of rage, causing the mac and cheese to cook for four hours straight. XBox says we can hang out later, but I get the feeling he's a bit worried about my new homicidal tendencies. The refrigerator has been far more accommodating and nice to me though, even offering to store body parts in the event I can't find or make something to eat later tonight. This is fortuitous, as I know I will be very hungry and tired after I bury the microwave later. Got to go, that guy who jogs past my house everyday is on his way back, and I know I can catch him now. Steak tonight!

Day 3: Dave doesn't fit in the toaster. He almost started a fire. Lesson learned. Its a good thing the house didn't catch fire. The firefighters would've found XBox's dead body, and would have called the cops. He shouldn't have said those things he did. After burying microwave though I was just too tired to bury XBox too. Its all very tragic, but at least the wife and kids will be home tomorrow.

So, this short film I'm producer/production manager of that came out last year, has been selected to be screened opening for an avant premiere of a feature film at a big Belgian film festival. That means some genuine red carpet shit with important people from the film industry!

Thanks! It had already been screened a few times on the silver screen, but opening for.a feature film is great! So far it were only short film sections, so being shown with other short films, and not at the hottest times. This means guaranteed full cinema, with press and professionals.

    Superb that it's down safely.

If you haven't already, you should look at the vid from mission control as the telemetry from the descent came in. Talk about tension, followed by euphoric relief.

Will catch the vid when I get home ...

Wonder what the delay on the telemetry over that kind of distance is??

    ~ 10 mins ???

Wiki says the major axis is 1.5 AU (roughly), so that's 4 minutes at the speed of light (roughly)

Stayed up till about 2 watching it all come about. Was far more entertained watching a room full of old people, and one guy in a mohawk, than I thought it would be. Slightly humored by the idea that some of the government's brightest minds collective lost their shit over a black and what 64x64 thumbnail.

They did just spend roughly the amount of money it takes to build an aircraft carrier to ship a tricked-out car an unimaginably long distance... and found out that they hadn't messed up the paint job along the way.

Gorgeous day <3 got home early from work, had time to make delicious food, got to lie on the grass with the ginger and soak up some sun while reading, and then discovered that not only do we have one zucchini basically ready to eat... we also have at least eight more on the way! Not to mention all the other veggies! it is so immensely satisfying... we can basically pick enough greens for a nice salad every night now.

On the down-side those mofos from UPS left my package at a pickup place way too far from here and the damn' place closes at like 5 >

The Koch brothers seem have gotten their panties in a twist over the new movie coming out titled The Campaign. I might have to suffer through Will Ferrell just cause now.

So I switched shifts with a coworker, but he forgot to put it in the roster, and I forgot to put it in my calendar, so when I checked the roster for this week I thought I had the monday off, which I didn't. I also went, rather unusual for me, without my phone that afternoon. So when I got home I saw a missed call from my boss, so that can't be good.

Turns out he called to say that there had been a double foil breach, the cyclotron was out of order for the whole afternoon to get the vacuum back, and I didn't have to show up

I operate a cyclotron to make radioactive stuff (Iodine-123, Fluor-18 and Rubidium-81 which decays to Krypton-81) for medical imagine purposes But the entier thing of course works in a pretty good vacuum, but the membrane between the cyclotron, at vacuum, and the target, which contains hot gas, broke, sending radioactive gas into the cyclotron. Which is a bit of a problem, obviously!
