I've been told about the size of the roads, especially in places like Vegas where each way has 4/5 lanes. I've also been told, while slightly teased, about driving in San Francisco. I Google Mapped a particular street a colleagued mentioned and it looks pretty awesome to me. Really looking forward to doing a lot of driving.

Lombard Street? That's the crookedest street in the US, or something. It's in a residential area, if I remember right. It is pretty crazy, but not really a 'destination', unless you also like to wander around and look at the architecture (interesting on its own, IMO). Might as well take the trolleys and walk around, so the driver doesn't have to miss anything.

Death Valley. You'll love driving in Nevada. Long stretches of....nothing but open road, surrounded by desert sand and crazy rock formations. Just make sure to be prepared with jugs of drinking water, a fully charged cell phone, and a spare tank of gas.

That's a little more than 100 km/h. That's what we have around cities or at interchanges. As I said, overtaking on the right seems OK for me at that speed.

This probably explains why I was so surprised to see people occasionally passing on the right in Switzerland. It's not illegal here, but we generally just try to pass on the left.

At interchanges overtaking on the right is allowed as soon as (different) directions are signed. But you then have to stay on that lane.
