Worked for me.
My first 'real' job - ie not working part-time serving drinks in a diner as a teenager/20 yr old - was maintaining a simple flat database for a tiny company, on a tiny £10k contract for a year. That served as the springboard for a career in IT, which has since led to other things.
All I knew then is that I wanted to work in IT. Getting a job on the very bottom rung of the ladder enabled that.
