Just watched Cloud Atlas. A great epic that lasts close to 3 hours and manages to weave thoughts, ideas and stories in such a way that you are never bored. All you want is for the story to go on and on and on. I think I simply have to watch this one again.

    Or read the book.

Hazir, Ben has been a "heart throb" in the US for quite a while. He just didn't make as many blockbuster movies as his friend Matt Damon. Probably different talent agents

Crap, I think my Thanksgiving weekend is gonna be limited to two or three movies. Between Argo, Silver Lining, Cloud Atlas, and Lincoln.....any advice on how to choose?

Why choose? You're not allowed to see movies outside of the Thanksgiving weekend? I'd see them all.

About Ben Affleck; I am specifically talking about the look he sports in Argo. I can't explain it but I really felt good just looking at him.

Yeah, I'll see them all eventually. Too hard to explain American Thanksgiving weekends with extended family, I suppose.

Oh, like that, I think Argo and Cloud Atlas are safe bets. Argo isn't overly long, but entertaining and gives you a little sniff of recent history. Cloud Atlas is seriously LONG (close to 3 hours) but has a way of telling stories in such a way that it never gets boring. I saw it in a sneak preview yesterday and was surprised that a group of young (moroccan background) men who I guessed were there in hope of seeing Taken 2, sat through the full session. As a matter of fact, we had a lower than 20% defection rate, which is really good for a movie of this type of that length. Why do I tell this? I do so because I think it's a great movie for a very wide set of people.
    Congratulations America

Nope. FYI I am more into Levantine types.(Think the way Ben Affleck looked in Argo. ) That whole north-african look doesn't do it for me.

Today, I saw Twilight's last installment and I seriously seriously have to advise everybody not to waste their time or money on this piece of crap. I knew I was up for a chickflick, but as chickflicks come this is really hitting rockbottom. I slept through 10-15 minutes of it and I swear that this didn't make me miss any relevant progress in the story. And then when something finally happened, they even had to screw that up too because appearantly the people who are into this crap wouldn't be happy without a superduperdouble happy ending. If I actually had been paying for this crap I'd demanded my money back.

Then, on the way out I noticed they'd have a screening of Looper, and we decided to try to cleanse ourself of the experience. I can tell you we succeeded; with a tiny bit of suspense of disbelieve and discarding one plot hole that was two hours of quite well written and acted film. Some gore, some action, a genuine aha-erlebnis, and a good feeling on leaving the theatre.

So, let me say it again; don't go to Twilight, go to Looper, or anything else instead. If your girlfriend wants you to go feign a headache or a flu or get a girlfriend with better taste.

Could've told you that one before watching any of the movies

    Vampires. Do. Not. Sparkle!
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

I was tricked into believing this movie wouldn't be quite as horrible as the previous installments and that Jacob would still take off his shirt all the time. He took it off in only one scene and the movie itself was at least as horrible as the previous Twilight movies.
    Congratulations America

Not seen any of the Twighlights. I'd understood they were aimed at the shallow airhead teeny American girly market. OG's signature gives some warning of that.

    ~

Saw True Grit last night. A Coen brothers remake of a John Wayne 1969 western, with a very grizzly Jeff Bridges, a moustachio'd Matt Damon, and a superb performance by a young Hailee Steinfield.

Unusual characters, darkly funny moments, and fine acting throughout, this is another fine production from the Coen's.

    7.5/10

Seems you didn't learn your lesson from the previous movies, did you?

    ***

Saw Skyfall last night. Overall pretty good. Normally I find the James Bond opening sequences cringingly awkward, but this one was actually great. And it was nice to see the woman from 28 Days Later (Naomie Harris) for the first time in like ten years. I don't get the sense she's done much and she's great on screen. Amazingly, it's like she hasn't aged at all.

I just had two beefs (big time spoilers):

    Spoiler:

    1) So we're all clear...Bond slept with a former child prostitute for no particular reason, right?

    2) I would have much preferred if Bardem got into the Parliamentary session and shot M in the head while she was reading the poem, then got killed by Bond. That would have been such a more dramatic ending. The whole Home Alone remake at the house was a bit overdone...and all to have M die of being shot in the ass?

I didn't learn my lesson. But I solemny swear now I will not watch another movie with that bimbo in the lead ever again.
    Congratulations America

Its the director you have to watch out for; her other movies, Red Riding Hood, Thirteen, are just as bad.

    EDIT:
seems the original director was let go, some other guy got sucked into that mess for the later movies. my bad.

Well, it turned out our Thanksgiving "group" behavior was divided between Skyfall and Lincoln. Since the extended family meant the Greek ESL contingent, it got kinda messed up. But I thoroughly enjoyed Lincoln, for so many reasons. Next day, we took a group trip to Philly, seeing the exhibits on Prohibition and the Constitution. Rather backward, I suppose.

Daniel Day Lewis should get an Academy Award for his performance. Ditto for makeup and costume, or other departments with historical references. By the end of the movie, he WAS Abe Lincoln. At least for a couple of hours.

She's also in On the road and Sleeping beauty right? Are those any good? I still want to see On the road, since I liked the book, but it hasn't played in cinema at times or places I could actually go

I think she is in On the Road, which I didn't see. The other movie was 'Snowwhite and the Huntsman', which she also dragged down with her wooden acting.

We Need to Talk About Kevin

Based on a book by Lionel Shriver, Directed by Steven Soderburgh, starring Tilda Swinton. A BBC Production.

Uncompromising, unforgiving and unflinching (and lots of other un-words) study of a disturbed boy and his troubled relationship with his mother, from his birth to mid-teens.

Excellent watch. Quite a disturbing film, leaves you feeling cold and uncomfortable. Certainly recommended.

Her acting couldn't have been less lively if she'd been a corpse all the way through the movie so you should be forgiven for confusing the role with that of Sleeping Beauty.

Anna Karenina, gorgeous film which has one major flaw though; the actor who plays count Vronski simply lacks the sex-appeal you expect from a man who can lure a respectable society wife from her husband and children.

Finally made the ginger happy and saw Abraham Lincoln--Vampire Hunter the other day. Put simply, it was more fun than it had any right to be

I really enjoyed both of them.
