Thread: What is making you happy right now

So let's leave them to freeze on the streets, huh
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Isn't that precisely what the officer did? I don't recall the homeless person being taken off the street.
Hope is the denial of reality

I don't either, and I didn't comment on it originally because ACAB, I'm saying it'd be nice if we got people off the street and not on them, but there I go again disagreeing with Saint Ronny and oh well.

The problem is getting these people off the street generally means getting them into mental asylums (incidentally, the closure of mental hospitals and the disability independent living movement are the main reason we have so many long-term homeless to start with), and no one wants to do that.

Perhaps they'd be better suited as Soylent Green. Might as well turn them into something useful for a change. Right?

See, that's the best part about useless austerity, you destroy everything that could've potentially had value for no reason whatsoever. Back in the Gilded Age, the poor were at least permitted to scrounge on what wasn't digested by the rich, today they're to make due with mere piss. Who said private equity wasn't a hell of a drug?

My long-awaited and hard-earned sthlm vacation has been a blast so far. Beautiful weather, no stress, hanging out with some of my closest friends... even enjoyed the trip here, having almost no luggage and leaving the laptop at home. New shoes and a coat, both on sale and both just right. First time since moving that I've bought a solid pair of shoes for winter, my last pair having been just ridiculously practical (albeit not beautiful). Never thought I'd find a coat that'd suit me either, but H&M of all places finally delivered. Like most of my clothes, it feels a tiny bit uncomfortable around my belly... although perhaps it's more a case of my belly feeling uncomfortable around clothes :-O

Checked out the venue for the wedding, it was covered in snow but still lovely but def. just a little bit too small for my taste.

Tonight, more party. Now, breakfast. Or not, since I'm still stuffed from pigging out last night. Hmmm, shopping or Nobel lectures? Hmmmmm

I was presented with a difficult ethical problem

Say you hook up with a slightly crazy (not abusive) sex-maniac

and say you end up boning her

but then boning both her and her little sister in the same bed at the same time

and finding that although they're both a little crazy, the little sister is sweet, loveable and affectionate

and knowing that you yourself are a little crazy (and a pervert like all guys)

... how far and how fast should you run?

Would you change your cellphone number and throw theirs away in order to stave off temptation?

The world just became a slightly safer place to live in. In past, in the messin w/ groove thread I've mentioned an extremely incompetent and therefore quite hazardous coworker.
He was fired yesterday. Apparently, our boss, who sometimes is too fond of giving people another chance, ran out of any potential redeeming qualities she might've found in that guy previously.

The problem isn't solved completely - he will still stick around for a while, until he gets his Bachelor's thesis done, or (more likely) fails to do so. He's not getting paid for that, though, and he is to leave afterwards.

A football fan has stolen media attention in Italy after being the only supporter to show up to watch his club play an away game in the top league.

Udinese fan Arrigo Brovedani was the club's sole supporter in Genoa for a Serie A match against local team Sampdoria.

The 30-something wine merchant found himself alone in the visitors' section.

But Sampdoria stewards gave him coffee and home fans invited him for a drink after the match.

Mr Brovedani told the BBC he had not expected to find many fellow supporters from Udinese, one of the smaller clubs in Serie A.

It was a cold Monday night and Udinese never attracts more than 50 or 60 away fans.

"But I went there thinking I'd find five or six other people," the Udinese fan said.

"I went into the stadium while they [Udinese] were warming up. I shouted and said 'hi' to the team.

"When I went in the local fans booed me, I felt a bit offended.

"But in the end they clapped and invited me for coffee and a meal, and the club managers gave me a shirt. They wished me a merry Christmas."

Genoa is about four hours' drive from Friuli, where Udinese are based.

But Mr Brovedani was in Genoa on business.

"I like the stadium there, it's very similar to English stadiums," he said. "I always take my flag and scarf around - they're always in the car with me."

Luckily for Mr Brovedani, Udinese won the match 2-0 and the team dedicated their victory to their only fan. He has been invited to attend its next home match on Saturday.

Thats depressing and hilarious. Reminds me of some of the middle school events we have down here, where only 1 or 2 parents per school show up.

SWTOR runs on my netbook, bottleneck seems to be the CPU, but it runs good enough to do the small shit, so I can play during my lunch hour at work.

Last work day of the year, in an hour or so I'll schlepp my bags to the office. Work a tiny bit, then schlepp my bags to the airport and fly to Istanbul. Where I will sit out all holidays and more.
    Congratulations America

    Schlepp. Good word.

I'm working throughout xmas and the new year. Only taking off the public holidays; xmas day, boxing day, and new years day.

Sure this is will give some of you "government is a waste" guys an aneurysm, but its funny as hell the CDC has published something like this. Originally came out in July.

Eh, that's not even a big problem IMO. It's just their cute PR way to get people to have an emergency kit made. I'm more amused by brilliance like the US government having official stances on the Mayan apocalypse or using nuclear weapons against hurricanes:

    http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html
    http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/C5c.html

There are plenty more where that came from. I understand why all of them exist, but it's pretty awesome that our government has to have a position about whether the world will end this week.

Wife is due 1st Jan, but think we're not long at all from having another baby in the house!

Also, that would mean I don't have to work Christmas Day
How do you expect to run with the wolves at night when you spend all day sparring with the puppies?

For the love of your unborn baby, do not rush it. Having a christmas birthday scars a person for life.

I can warmly recommend the 2nd as a good birthday, much better than the first

It's not as if esp. NASA scientists haven't been BOMBARDED by questions about our impending doom at an ever increasing intensity as dec 21st 2012 has drawn closer

its common for christmas babies to feel overshadowed by the holiday, they don't get nearly the same level of attention that someone that had a birthday during the school year would have. and presents, jesus, every year they get screwed on that with the combo christmas/birthday present. they will always think that they are getting short changed in that department, no matter what you do.

The wife was born on Christmas eve.

    As for the how...sex.
