Installed vijendrah's port of Jellybean AOKP for the Desire, hoping against hope that it would be worthwhile...

... and it's hella sweet =) only weird behaviour I've noticed so far is in the camera app, and that can for the time being be fixed by disabling HW overlays in developer options. Looks great, runs smoothly, so far no instability issues, and being Jellybean it's of course heaps better than CM7/Gingerbread. Oh yeah, the mobile data toggle isn't available from the status bar for some reason, but everything seems to be working fine so far. I was a dummy and forgot to back up my texts and call log separately before wiping and installing the ROM, and retrieving them from the clockworkmod backup was a pain in the ass but perfectly doable without overly sophisticated tools or any need to code.
