Just bought the new new iPad 16GB Wifi for Ronald for €440,-- plus a bunch of otherwise useless points.

Since the 'little one' is a subpar product, of course the the fullsized one. Did I do that? Oh well, I could get this at a price that was decent enough, and I think for a technophobe like Ronald it was a good thing that his tablet would work in the same way as the one he was hogging for his ASOIAF reading (mine).

So, decided on the Galaxy Note 10.1 last week.

Started hunting around the 'net for the best deals this morning. Found to my horror that everywhere had run out of the grey version, and only had the white version in stock. Found a few places that still stocked the grey one, but at prices from £50-£80 more than the usual price.

Ummed and ahhhd for most of today, whether to fork out the silly amount more for the grey one (which I knew my other half would much prefer) or whether just to go with the white one.

Had one last check on Amazon a half hour ago, and suddenly they were back in stock of the grey one, when they were out this morning.

Order placed, job done. It's not often my indecision pays

Savings-to-benefit ratio seems pretty low on that when you factor-in the time and effort needed, at least for me.

My cheapness tends to manifest itself in more binary choices. Either buy a tablet or don't. Either take a trip or don't. Either eat lunch today or don't. Not sure if that's a healthy way to live, but when I make the "yes" choice I usually end up treating it like a bit of a splurge. Especially when it comes to electronics and food. Though I will probably never buy a newly-built car or home.

Why may I ask would you not buy a new home?

I bought a new home - not only did it mean that everything is under warranty (most things a 10 year warranty) so no "buyer beware" - but it was also cheaper than an existing house because it was on a building site. We also got to customise certain parts of the spec at no extra cost (eg we chose from a range of options the carpets and tiles, also choices about the kitchen - since they have choices to make as to what to put in and may as well put in what you want).

The builders have virtually finished the estate now and early in the new year will depart for good (they're already gone from our street). We'll be left with a nice new home and a nice uplift in our property value too. Would highly recommend it, if you're willing to live on a building site. Its not like a car which plummets in value once no-longer new.

I tend not to trust newer housing stock over here, plus I think it can sometimes take quite a while for some major kink to emerge in the whole thing. I just know two people and a family member who bought new housing here and have had some kind of trouble I wouldn't have wanted to deal with.

Got the missus an Asus Transformer Pad (just the tablet, no dock atm) and she's loving that it's hella sweet, if I'd gotten as good a deal on a second one I mighta gone for it, but on the other hand I'm pretty damned pleased with Jellybean on my Touchpad. Yup, still going strong =)

She loves it. Was a good purchase. Uses it every day.

Took a few days to figure Ice Cream Sandwich, it's got quite a lot that Android 2.x (which we both have on our Desires) doesn't.

We're considering Jellybean, but really need to look into what it offers that Sandwich doesn't before decide if it's worthwhile.

I myself have hardly used the Note though, she's always on it ...

it's worthwhile. more cohesive interface and better usability, smoother, better keyboard. might like Google Now too if you don't have that on ics

Huh, I hadn't seen that form factor around. It's not being advertised/sold much here, me thinks. Interesting.
