    Default Arrested Development, Season 4

    I finished watching the new season yesterday. The first few episodes were a bit of a hot mess, but after it picked up steam it was as good as it ever was. It's pretty impressive that they managed to pull everyone back together so long after the show was originally canceled. The number of guest stars was also very impressive. Being entirely Netflix funded, I would have expected this to be a lower budget affair - I have to wonder how many of the bigger names who showed up agreed to work for scale just to get in on it.

    The big question is, did this keep you from otherwise canceling your subscription?

    I'm guessing it's a loss-leader for them...I would like to watch but I'm still not interested in Netflix. But Archer gives me plenty of the Arrested Development cast without the subscription to so much old content that I feel compelled to watch.

    Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a Netflix discussion.

    I cancelled my Netflix a couple of months ago but re-subscribed for AD. Will probably keep it till the end of the year now. I think it's fantastic that NF did this and think they deserve to get paid for bringing back a show that so many people love and missed. Anybody who pirates AD Season 4 should be castrated.

    There was an article that came out a few days ago talking about how fewer people are pirating the show because Netflix is already considered affordable. About 1/10 compared to how many people pirated Game of Thrones. Another one of those ease of access arguments.

    I wonder how low it would truly get if not for regional restrictions.

    I'd like to pay 10€/month to see shows like that, but I can't. Game of Thrones is on the local HBO here, and I'd have to pay, in total, about 30€/month for that, and I can't take an internet-watching only subscription. I'd get netflix, IF they had it here. The only alternative is an online streaming site, that has a small film collection, and you pay ~5€ to watch a film. For that money I can almost buy the DVDs..

    For what it's worth, I've pirated almost no music at all since I got myself a Spotify subscription.

    My beef with Netflix is that Arrested Development is like a flash in the pan when it comes to recent content. Otherwise the whole service was a lot of older shows/movies, which is okay except I felt like I had to re-watch all three parts of the Matrix or something random to make it worthwhile. Meanwhile we can get current shows by buying season passes on Amazon and Google Play and it roughly evens out for much more current stuff that everyone is talking about anyway.

    Psych costs at least 20 bucks a season on amazon. Netflix is 8 bucks. And netflix doesn't stream the matrix.

    But it's cool, not everyone gets how to enjoy something like netflix.

    As opposed to Dread, I am a voracious Netflix user.
    I am watching TV shows or movies 8-12 hours a day!
    I love being able to watch a whole multi-season series in a week.
    Netflix is AWESOME!

    I'm almost done with season 3 of Arrested Developement.

    Are they in the background when you work or something? I guess that's a perk of being your own boss...?

    I assume you'll be watching Season 4?

    I should clarify that I watch maybe 1-2 shows at a time and I don't/can't really marathon a show, so that's how the cost evens out. When I had Netflix I just found myself sorely tempted to "get the most" out of it, which is how I ended up spending a over half a day re-watching the Matrix trilogy and then regretting it. On the plus side, it got me into Dexter...which I ended up buying from Amazon and Google because Netflix only had two seasons of the show.

    Yeah, I have a TV and Netflix capable bluray player on my bench, with surround sound and a 12" subwoofer. LOL

    i also have the annoying DVD subscription because everything is not streaming. And sadly, I too have purchased shows that I couldn't wait for release, such as Dexter, Weeds, Breaking bad...

    strangely, having TV to watch helps keep me at my bench working, where otherwise ADD would make me roam around and do other nonessential stuff.

    I'll probably finish the Arrested Developement series by tomorrow. Then I gotta find something else interesting. Maybe West Wing?

    Yeah, it's a saddle chair. It's rather nice. I'm getting used to it.
