I took your original question to mean what happens to animated porn, comic book porn, and artistic porn. That is how you'd phrased it.
All of those would fall under general porn categories and would therefore, I'd imagine, come under the opt-in banner. As I stated.
In your second question you are asking something different. You are asking about retro comic books and modern anime. For these, no, I'd imagine they wouldn't come under the opt-in banner, as they aren't porn.
With the caveat of that anime which certainly does cross the line into porn, that is.
The larger and more pertinent question is....what is pornography, and who decides the definitions?
really? cause Cameron already admitted that very question is going to cause problems. already backtracked on softcore, without explaining what that meant, as well as literature.
I wonder how many teenage boys are worrying about this, only to discover their fathers already opted in.

One wonders how long it will take for this to be struck down as an unnecessary limitation on the freedom of speech.
Congratulations America
Free speech is barely a concept in the UK, so I'm willing to guess it will be a while before the censors overreach and stir enough backlash.

I have to admit I'm very curious about the sociological and psychological research that might come out of this![]()

This has to be incorrect, no way the UK government is dumb enough to filter 95% of the internet by default.
"In a field where an overlooked bug could cost millions, you want people who will speak their minds, even if they’re sometimes obnoxious about it."
I don't see anything on that link which says 95% of the internet
Also note that is a filter that was put in by TalkTalk a private company and a relatively minor one at that. They've put that in as a sales pitch to get new customers because there's been private demand for it - not because the government made them.
I referring to the line that says the government says all filters will come checked by default, and that users will have to "systematically unblock things". That can be taken to mean the government is going to be block way more than just porn. That filter list covers a vast majority on the web by use (no point in considering volume). Having to verify with the government (read: be an adult), to see stuff that is not porn related, but is at best questionable or unfavorable is a huge leap from using the children as an excuse to block porn.
This is looking less and less like a "think of the children" push, and more and more like a way to weed out the users that the government doesn't need to waste resources tracking.
Can't see how blocking selfharm or suicide sites is going to backfire, nope none at all, that makes perfect sense. /s

So. . . all UK internet traffic is routed through this firm, whether they've opted out of filtering or not? The NSA must be delighted. And it's a good thing Google has a real competitor for hoovering up data. Minx says he's curious about the sociological or psych research but who cares about that, this is a goldmine for tracking and analytics.

What possible reason do we have to worry about a firm with strong connections to the Chinese government abusing its position?![]()

Didn't the Aussie porn filter block sites critical of the government at some point?
I wonder if we can petition to get MPACUK banned. Bah, that place is a shell of its former self, wouldn't be worth it.![]()
Can someone in the UK tell me in which century their government lives? What's next? Covering up table legs?

Absolutely!
And you upstart colonials would be far more refined if you'd stuck with such elegant and sophisticated trappings of her Majesty's Empire as these. Nothing like the thwack of leather 'pon willow on a balmy summer's evening in God's chosen country, this green and pleasant land. What ho, pip pip!
Can I have my cucumber sandwich with Ranch dressing?

Guilty! And I'll have coffee instead of tea thank you.
