No need to look forward when it has arrived, right?![]()
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
I think it's fair to say that season 2 is even better than season one. With some real surprises, that must be intended to have potential new story lines for the next season.
Congratulations America
We're three deep in the new season. Good stuff.
I thought it was just supposed to be a two-season deal, right?
I think they originally ordered two seasons, but that doesn't mean it was supposed to be like that - just if ratings were bad they could cancel after two seasons (which is rare, usually only one season or less is ordered at first, two seasons is quite the commitment).
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
We are binge watching season one!
LOVE IT.
It's like watching then Evil Mirror Universe of The West Wing.

House of Cards has been renewed, so there will be a third season.
Congratulations America
I'm still working my way through it, usually one episode a day, and it's fantastic. I'm glad to hear it's renewed. I have to wonder at the profitability, though. It costs 4 million an episode to produce, and that's about the same across all their series. I realize the intangible benefits, but there's diminishing returns there, and with a flat rate fee Netflix is never going to be able to do quantity as well as quality. I can't imagine they're making tons of money off DVD sales either, since, you know, Netflix.
I'm guessing that they want to develop a business model where people subscribe to Netflix to get their proprietary content instead of only doing it to watch their crappy collection of old movies and TV shows.

HBO isn't much more expensive, is it? And they have loads of expensive original series.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
HBO usually costs $15-20 a month. Netflix is $8. Plus Netflix has much more content, even if most of it is crap.

I hate the whole damn rigged thing.I pay the bill to Comcast/X-finity....and my kids can plug into the service to get Netflix via X-Box, but I can't watch House of Cards on the family room TV without moving shit around, or paying extra?

My last 2 TVs had netflix built in, and you can get a roku to play netflix for like $50, or a chromecast for $30 if you have a smartphone or tablet.
Never got behind the idea of paying for cable, than paying more for good cable, so I use Netflix and whatever I can add to my vudu account without charge. A lot of people are going the same route, which is why the comcast time warner merger is such a problem, and net neutrality is so important. When NBC bought comcast they were given the greenlight to kill net neutrality by 2018, and this comast deal puts 70% of US internet users under that. but that all belongs in the other thread.
"In a field where an overlooked bug could cost millions, you want people who will speak their minds, even if they’re sometimes obnoxious about it."
My TV also has netflix built in, but no hulu, so for that I use apple TV. And I have found out that the apple TV seems to have less issues with netflix. I got it because I couldn't buy a chromecast overhere without paying ridiculous mark ups.
My idea is that Netflix tries to reel people in with content like House of Cards, then hope they hang around long enough to make a profit. I bet House of Cards has been factored into their marketing strategy and/or budget.
Overhere in Holland HBO is €15 (no workarounds) and Netflix €7,99, though with a minimal bit of trickery you can reduce that to $7,99. I have HBO, netflix, huluplus and (by mistake) amazon prime![]()
Congratulations America
I thought Hulu was US only?
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
Pokemon is coming to Netflix this sunday. Time to brainwash the kids

I am gorging on American Horror Story.
Congratulations America
Just watched the pilot of "Believe". And once again, the stupid ball is passed around.
I mean, just take this quote: "We're the good guys! We don't do guns." when the leader of the "resistance" group is asked for a gun. While being chased by people with guns.
Then there's this would-be assassin/kidnapper who, when chasing her mark in a hospital, takes the time to screw on a silencer to her gun - and only then proceeds to chase her mark openly. I mean, what did the script writer think a silencer is for?
And a safe-house that isn't (wonder over wonder!).
Upon googling reviews I found out that both creators more or less distanced themselves from the show (one left outright, the other stayed on as an executive producer). In essence, don't waste your time.
And now I'll have a look at True Detective. Penny Arcade endorsed it as CSI: Innsmouth.

When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?
That's a good series.
I'm just beginning House of Cards, and loving it. The only thing getting in my way are Spacey's directives to the viewing audience. For some reason, they seem like "cartoon balloons" that could have achieved the same thing using a different technique, without being so obvious. Maybe the show creators want us to feel like one actor was speaking to us directly.....making us feel engaged in the drama. I dunno why, but it kinda bugs me.
The sideways are what make House of Cards different. We're not supposed to just be viewers, we're supposed to get an insider look. We're being made part of his dirty secrets. FU knows we're watching and he couldn't care less.
Congratulations America
I have to agree with GGT. Those "sideways" never reveal anything particularly interesting and just seem to distract from what's going on.

It's not meant to expose anything, really, at least I think it's more of a style choice to make the viewer more connected and feel like you're being given an inside look. Plus it makes him seem more superior, standing over the situation, commenting on it, only one able to connect to the viewer, almost like a god in that sense. Either way, I didn't mind, but I wouldn't have minded if it hadn't been there, though the feel would be different.
Line of duty second season is pretty good so far![]()

Eh, I thought it was just stating the obvious.

Yeah, it's definitely a "style" thing. Some people like it....but I find it distracting and almost condescending. If House of Cards wanted to be comparable to novels instead of short stories, or dramatic series instead of serials, I'm not sure why they added the first-person narrative of just one character. It's not like they're creating a series with historical context like *Sherlock Lives*.
That said, it's still a good show.
