You could always donate a portion of it to the government.

I could but it wouldn't go to any of the functions the government is dismantling so that they can be replaced by even worse private options You forget that the government decides the rebates and sets the budget accordingly.

Local elections in Holland; for the first time in 66 years the PvdA (social democrats) is not the biggest party in the city council
    Congratulations America

One benefit of a 5 1/2 year old game. The infection achievements are stupid easy to get.

Logged into the multiplayer for GTA IV to start working on those achievements and the first kill I made gave me the achievement for killing a Rockstar employee or player who has killed a rockstar employee.

To my surprise direct democracy is able to decisively vote against nimby-ism. In central Amsterdam there was a referendum about a plan to restructure a street. That involved some real improvements, but also removing a couple of on-street parking spaces (alternative parking is about 150 meters away). A solid majority voted for the restructuring.
    Congratulations America

A good stretch of the Limmatquai (street along the river Limmat) in Zürich has been made car free only because of direct democracy. The local business had good lobbing against it, the proposal would probably have never passed the cities parliament.

Isn't that because most people don't drive?

You mean the people living in the city centers?

I'd say in Amsterdam, which isn't quite New York, whether people usually drive or not within the city they still have a car and want to park it.

Could be that this is a relevant factor. I don't know. There is no shortage of cars in the city center, but unless they are from another country it's difficult to say where they are from. For people who own a car with a park license in my neighbourhood I don't think it matters all that much. For those without a license every parking space lost counts.

I'm happy that Spring is on its way, regardless of fits and starts in weather. I'd be happy if Spring weather meant protracted frigid nights, so I can continue using my wood burning fireplace.

I'm a 'happy' homeowner after seeing all the tree damage my neighbors across the street suffered over the winter. Their property extends beyond street view, but when their tree surgeons needed me to jump their truck's battery....I got a glimpse of all the downed trees, split trunks, strewn branches, debris, the utter mess! I drew the long end of the lucky stick, so to speak.

I also got a kick from using my little 4-cylinder small sedan to jump a big honking work truck, with wheel wells taller than my waist. Probably perverse pleasures, huh.

I'm making Dutch subtitles to an Argentinean movie about Eva Peron, just for the heck of it. First 15 minutes took me 2 hours but that's mostly because my original is in Portuguese

We just finished seeing How I Met Your Mother and it was like :') :') <3 I can't believe it's over... the ginger and I started watching this show the first time she came over to my place to hang out and smooch and I remember thinking, "Oh shit!" and that it may have been the worst show to start watching in the early stages of what I was already hoping would be a wonderful life together. But instead it proved to be the best show we could've picked, and here we are. It was just the best ever

Heh. My other half got me watching it. One of the few American shows that isn't preachy or schmaltzy. It's very good and very funny.

Finale hasn't hit these here shores yet. Soon.

There are a few really uneven or downright bad seasons near the end, but the last season mostly holds up and the finale, though very divisive, is just

The following is a How I met your mother spoiler. this line is to take up space on the activity page.

    Spoiler:
I was hoping they would do more with Barney's character. He single handedly carried the show through the rough seasons. Then they wrap up the show without involving his brother? Or more importantly showing how his daughter was raised or what type of adult she grew into

I brought my first brand new car on Saturday in preparation for the new arrival in September. My previous cars have been a couple of years old when I brought them but not this time!

    A Renault Captur:

    It ticked all the boxes:

    1) Cheap to buy/run (Decent MPG )
    2) Cheap to tax (£30/year)
    3) Good NCAP rating - comes with ISOFIX.
    4) Fun to drive - has a three cylinder 900cc turbo engine which has a little boost at the correct rev range.
    5) Good storage and access to boot space (or trunk for you Yanks).

I got mine all in blue instead of the two-tone as featured above.

I checked out a few others, Peugeot 2008 / Nissan Juke but they didn't seem to leave a good impact when I looked/test drove them.

Congratulations! Out of curiosity and if you don't mind, why were you flying to Indiana every week?
