This really has been such a lovely day; first, just as I decide to take a shower the water company decides to cut our water supply. So I take a French bath (dutch expression for just applying deodorant) and go out. Totally unaware of the fact that the tap in the kitchen is not entirely shut and that coincidentally the drain in that same kitchen is shut by its very well working stopper. I come back about 5 hours later finding 3 cm of water on my kitchen floor. Now, in most houses the kitchen isn't on the top floor, but in our house in Istanbul it is. So, I go to have a look in the bedroom under the kitchen, and sure enough everything is soaking wet. The most pressing task is clearly the water in the kitchen. Which I first scoop into a big bucked and once that's no longer possible I start to mop up the rest. Next task is the bedroom, which I empty out. All clothes etc I consider laundy, even the clothes that got wet in the closet. Once this room is more or less dry, with the mattress and bed standing in a position so that the circulating wind (not very warm by the way) can dry them. It is only then that I think of going down one more floor where I find - oh happy day - my own bed totally soaked. Thank god the additional washing is limited to the sheets and top of the mattress. And the laptop standing right next to the bed was saved by the water absorbing qualities of my mattress.
The washing starts (without any mid-cycle interruptions) and as some things can simply not be put in the dryer, I hang them on the balcony. Somewhere halfway through the third load all of a sudden I realize that it's raining outside. So I have to rush everything that was on the lines on the balcony back inside again. And that with only 3 more loads to go
