I'm disappointed that US News is focused more on NFL "deflate-gate"....while international events percolate. WTF?
The bulk of that number visit my my neighborhood and the adjoining 3. My neighborhood has about 1,700 permanent inhabitants. Seems like I should simply give up and turn my appartment into a short-term rental.
@OG It's like I'm bloody living the main street of a Disney Park.

I know nothing about football and even I knew it was retarded to throw at 2nd down with one yard to the game-winning touchdown and a timeout remaining. WTF, Seahawks?

This boy has been suspended for threatening to use the One Ring.
But, wait, it's not his first suspension! Surely he's a troublemaker?
1st suspension: Called a black classmate ... black. The racist bastard!
2nd suspension: Dared to bring a book to school which depicted a pregnant woman. Spreading pornography, too!

Wraith, I'm not sure it's as clear-cut as you suggest. Yes, the passing play at 2nd and goal was a risk, but there are all sorts of reasons why they might have called it. My feeling is that Carroll knew everyone was expecting Lynch to get the ball on a basic run - that had been the first down play, and given Lynch's remarkable skill, it's the obvious call to make. I was thinking it, you were thinking it, and I guarantee you that Bill Belichick was thinking it. The NE defense was well prepared for that kind of play, and Carroll (and the Seahawks) are nothing if not ballsy playcallers. There was very limited time to spare, and essentially no timeouts to burn (Belichick, in what will probably be seen as a stroke of strategic genius, chose not to call time after 1st down, instead preferring to trust his defense and put pressure on Seattle play callers) - if they tried a run, they'd be stuck with burning their final timeout on 3rd down, forcing a passing play on 3rd down, followed by a run/pass on 4th down. If they tried a pass instead, they'd stop the clock with an incompletion on 2nd down, dramatically increasing flexibility on 3rd and goal with a single timeout left.
I don't know if I would have called it the same way given the NE defense and Lynch, but remember that the Seahawks had been relying heavily on their receivers to help them out with some truly spectacular catches - frankly, the running game was not a big factor in this Super Bowl. Hell, the 11 yard TD reception with seconds left in the first half was similarly ballsy, but also had an internal logic to it. Passing plays (or play action) when everyone is expecting a run often work in red zone situations, even against a short field.
It's easy to second guess here, and obviously Carroll prefers a very risky form of football (his team is heavily penalized, aggressive, etc.). In a literally split second decision, he made a call that made sense, though it ended up being the wrong call. If instead the pass had resulted in a TD reception, everyone would be falling over themselves praising him for his nerve and guile in a pressure situation.
