I hate posting in the groove thread after death news

Traffic was flowing down my street this morning because the base entrance was all kinds of backed up. I was walking back form the girls bus stop and suddenly there was a kitten in the middle of the road. I figure it fell out from the undercarriage of someone's car. I made the mistake of carrying it inside. Looks like I have a new cat. I don't want a cat. I have 9.

Also, Microsoft is neutering OneDrive to the point of being no better than drop box

Bought Tropico 5 as it is on sale on Steam. Checked the system requirements, said DirectX 11, checked, and I have DirectX 11. Turns out while I have it, my graphics card doesn't support it, so the game simply gives an error message and doesn't start.

It's also a little bizarre that it only works with some Dx10.1 cards

I'm also surprised it is this game that requires specific cards, I mean it's a strategy game.

Tried already, still didn't start. Just gave the error message. Oh well, I'll have it in my library and will play it when I finally get a new pc.

What video card do you have? And how much would it cost to ship a box from tampa florida (33611) to you? I have a 5850 thats been sitting in a drawer for a year now doing nothing. It requires a PSU with 2 6 pin connectors.

It's a laptop so no use, but thanks! Will let you know when I finally get around to building a new pc, but first I need to get a new job because I'm barely paying my rent now so a whole new pc has to wait Got an interview next week though so fingers crossed

My Thanksgiving holiday has some problems from the get-go --- I'll be spending it with my older sister's Greek in-law family who doesn't like 'traditional' American foods, with another sister who's a hard-line vegan (and drove 600+ miles).

It's no wonder my kids are conflicted about what the Thanksgiving holiday means.

But I'm "happy" to post these first-world conflicts in this forum.

Someone needs to shoot Monroe before he steals any more of our lives from us.
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"

  16. #4666
No available beds, very sick patients piling up in the ER and I start my shift on call just aa everyone gets locked out of our EHR system. It seems Russia's cyber and psychological war against Sweden has escalated.

So two patients I had this week didn't make it. I really thought they would. Came as a total surprise and my head is all messy now. It has been a rough but still good week, we managed to keep our heads above the water despite a lot of pressure on the ER and almost no available beds. We had a lot of really good support from residents and attendings and nurses who somehow managed to make things work even though they're just ridiculously overworked right now. And then this. I haven't had the opportunity to pay my condolences yet. I honestly don't know what to say. I can't stop worrying about my mum who's home alone.

Thanks man It's sometimes hard to accept the things that really are out of my hands.

You just explained an element of burn-out, without knowing it. It's been a while since you posted that, but I hope you're not worrying about your mother each time you have a clinical failure....

  23. #4673
Nah, I'm never going to stop worrying about my mother she lives alone in a different city, and doesn't have daily visitors who can just drop by unannounced thanks to an idiotic security system in her building. If anything were to happen there's a good chance no-one would notice in time and there's just no getting around that.

V&D department stores yesterday closed their doors for the last time. Not that I was a regular buyer there any longer, they consistently managed to have stuff on offer that I wouldn't buy. But their restaurants were actually quite good and with the closure the one I had close to my place is gone too. But most of all it's yet another certainty of my younger years gone for good.
    Congratulations America

Ah, right. From what I read in the newspaper this morning, a restart is unlikely. Guess I hope for you that whatever replaces V&D in that building will come with a decent restaurant From what I recall La Place wasn't that good (nor cheap) though, surely there are other similar quality places in downtown Amsterdam? Then again, I can't really think of similar places in downtown Eindhoven, either. Hema has something similar but much smaller, and less good (weirdly the Hema in Belgium has a much better restaurant).

I don't think there will be a re-start; the company was little more than the inventory and the people who worked there and of course the brand. The people as of today are all let go, the inventory is being removed and the brand, well, I think that's really just damaged goods. The real negotiations between Kahn and the owners of the real estate were whether they'd lease the buildings to him as a bundle or not. But given that Hudson Bay also is after the best locations and is willing to offer better conditions there was only the tiniest chance anyway.
    Congratulations America

I think the door of the flat below owes the guy who lives there money.

I can hardly believe that my "baby" is celebrating his 25th birthday. It only 'messes with my groove' because I don't feel old enough to have a 25 year old child.
