Thread: Euro 2016

    Default Euro 2016

UEFA has threatened to disqualify both England and Russia from the tournament if the violent clashes seen in Marseille are witnessed again.

In the Stadium itself, a hardcore of Russian gang members charged at England fans, including women and children, at the end of the 1-1 draw, forcing them to clamber over barriers to flee.

Elsewhere in the city drunken England fans getting into fights with Russian fans, with French locals, and with Police.

    Sickened by this.

UEFA should ban England from the remainder of the tournament, and from the next Euro competition.

Someone needs to ban Russia, period. From all sports at the very least.
Hope is the denial of reality

Why can't people watch a sport without being violent. If the people who get violent at these games could channel their energy elsewhere...

Seems like people get arrested for that more often versus soccer hooliganism

When police refuse to get serious about putting down violence you get more violence. If someone acts violent you put them down - this isn't complicated. I'm not in favor of indiscriminate shooting in the crowds (not because I give a flying shit about these idiots but because you might harm the innocent) but police could do a lot more to put the fear of death in would be criminals.

The same Russian that has beaten a English fan lying on the ground was also one of the main actor attacking the English sector in the stadium. I have no idea how this could happen, I thought they check every single one entering the stadium because of the terror attacks in Paris? We have face recognition software for such things nowadays.

Yes it seems that there were Russian gang-members from hardcore groups at the stadium, intent on violence.

Reports are that security into the stadiums is very light, a cursory pat-down seems to be about it. Seems ridiculous given the current situation in France.

Flares and bangers have featured in a few of the matches. I was watching a bit of N. Ireland v Poland yesterday, and a huge bang went off. My heart leapt and my first reaction was oh shit it's a bomb, before the commentator stated that someone in the crowd had let off a banger. Such things are strictly prohibited, so demonstrates just how lax security is on entry.

Not a single Russian hooligan has been caught by the police.

Football is a bad sport and the people who enjoy it are bad, violent people.

Realised I forgot to actually answer: at least UEFA can only penalise actions in the actual stadium, not in the city.

I realised I just can't bring myself to care without the Dutch side being there. At tournaments where they participate I could watch 2 matches a day and enjoy it. Now it's just one big blah.
    Congratulations America

Kinda same here, but I have tonnes of foreign coworkers so pretty much every day a team from some coworker is playing (my Slovak coworker was particularly happy this afternoon ). The only really annoying thing is that literally every European nationality we have working here is qualified apart from the dutch... Czech, Slovak, Swiss, Austrian, French, German, Russian, Portuguese, Italian, English, even the Welshman can support his team.

Wtf, so the Russians are now just complaining about being provoked by the English, and called in the french ambassador because 4 fans were arrested. Apparently arresting drunk hooligans is now discrimination.

So, one game won but played average, and one draw while playing awesome. But on the bright side, with the current mode, going further with 4 points is very likely.

The head of the Russian internal security service basically said the English deserved it and everyone is being a wimp, so this sounds like some kind of cultural expression of Putinism. Because we know what happens when crowds disobey Putin. But when it's outside of Russian borders against non-Russians, it's all "Nu, what are we going to do?"

Thought that was going to be another pants England performance.

    Fuck yes

Be good to see both england and wales get through the group.

Well if Wales beat Russia they get through and we get any result against Slovakia we both get through.

Spain in a dominant 3-0 display against Turkey.

Looking very strong. My money's on them to win the tournament.
