No, they were horrible wretches of human beings who engineered the death of millions, and out of the lot most of them winded up killing themselves due to said wretchedness

Sure but then I'd counter that the group that massively voted remain is 65+ and they don't have to worry about their jobs etc because they are pensioners.

I didn't post it because of the life expectancy anyway but for the she breakdown. It's not a stretch to day that the old screwed over the young.

You might be surprised at how many of the "remain" camp would have you believe otherwise

I really wouldn't. The only people who brought it up were Gove and Johnson.

Sadly, you can't read swamp-Mongolian, but our YLE made a big show of reporting the leave win as if it were a terror attack or some similar life-costing affair. And we had our fair share of political big-wigs who out-right said that people voted wrong, and popular votes ought be banned. Because apparently popular votes are like nazis, somehow. It boggles the mind.

Well, that response would obviously have to be seen in the context of the politics of Finland, not what's happening in the UK. The whole 'referendums are a device of dictators and demagogues' argument is compelling, but I don't see any other way to legitimize decisions of this magnitude. I just wish everyone had taken it a little more seriously. Only the leavers were really into it.

I think that's quite accurate. That's what switched me from Remain to Leave. Johnson for the first time in his life was bloody serious and not clowning around. I didn't see anyone make a serious positive argument for Remain.

It's a sad state of affairs when an entire side of an argument is less serious than Boris bloody Johnson!

I don't think the Remain side really thought they could lose. Hubris has led to shell-shock.

I'm not in the mood for an internet rant, but suffice to say that Boris Johnson has earned my unqualified contempt with his conduct during the referendum. I'd rather see a literal piece of shit as the next prime minister.

What has Boris done that is contemptible?

You may disagree with him but do you agree he has taken this very, very seriously? If someone on your side had bothered to do the same you may have won.

Dude, he lied his little heart out. He compared the EU to fucking Hitler, then rambled on about some Daily Mail-esque urban legend about the over-regulation of cabbage. He drove around on a bus with legit lies written on the side in about 300pt text. Pretty much his entire thing was "Make Britain Great Again", long on bullshit, short on specifics. But unlike, Trump, or Gove or Farage, the man is actually intelligent and together enough to realize that almost everything was saying was utter nonsense. I could smell the cynicism coming off him from up here in Cumbria. And for what? Presumably, because he wants to be the next PM. Fuck him. I hope May is the next Tory leader.

The £350 million figure is the gross figure which came direct from the Treasury. It's a simple fact.

He did not compare the EU to Hitler. Any sane reading of what he actually wrote makes that abundantly clear. He compared it to historical attempts to recreate the Roman Empire actually which included as one of multiple examples the Nazis yes but he said the EU was an attempt to reunite Europe through other means. Don't go with this paranoid reaction.

So, it wasn't technically a lie, just misleading in the extreme.

    Well, that's far better.

You don't bring up the nazis as a comparison unless you're trying to invoke their crimes and excesses. What do you think they're most known for, the fact that they killed 12 million people in concentration camps, or the fact that some of their shit was kinda-sort inspired by the Roman Empire, depending on how you look at it?

Come on, man, we're not stupid.

    Quite.

Were Cameron backing Brexit, Johnson would have backed remain, and spouted his horseshit on their behalf.

This has played out brilliantly for Johnson, it couldn't have gone better. He's now extremely well positioned to lead this country. He's quite the shrewd politician. Cynical to the end.

And with it; no integrity; no scruples; no moral courage.

I'll not believe another word the man says.

Shame, I used to champion him. I thought he did great things for London. An excellent mayor.

See Livingstone, Ken. Someone about being a good mayor of London makes one a terrible human being.

Is there any chance of that ongoing petition resulting in a second referendum on EU membership?
    Congratulations America

These petitions are dime a dozen. All they require is for the PM to spend a second talking about it in the Commons.

Won't matter. Maybe if it got 18 million signatures.

Since it was pointed out to me by a friend (Australian + British citizen) a couple of hours ago the count went from 1.5m to 1.9m. It's interesting to see the situation developing.

And a bit of a cheeky argument for a second referendum; it could buy the British side time wrt triggering article 50.
    Congratulations America

The petition is a load of shite, you can't retroactively change the rules of a referendum because you don't like the result. "uh, you voted out? Shit. Actually you need 60%. Vote again. Fuck! 61% want out now? Actually you need 75%. Do it again." etc.

The only legit way for a second vote is for the next PM to call a general election and a party to be elected to government with a mandate for such. Since the next PM is likely to be Boris, pretty much a principle free zone, and the party would have to be Labour, who are currently run by someone who just wandered in off the streets, that seems an extraordinarily unlikely chain of events

There's no requirements to register and get authenticated to sign a petition like there is to vote. One person could sign thousands of times. It's irrelevant. What's done is done.

Is it? The funny impression I had was that Brexit was the last thing Johnson expected. I thought he wanted a narrow remain victory so he could plunge his dagger in Cameron and be in Downing street. He looked a bit upset after the outcome was clear.
    Congratulations America
