Thread: Multiple officers killed at Dallas protest over police killings

Thing is, this is one case in which I'm more inclined to place the blame on systemic problems and less inclined to vilify the individual cop although he obviously did do something blatantly wrong.

If he's afraid of people that far away, is deaf, and has no aim, he probably shouldn't be a cop.

Lewk, is this the cop condemnation of this behavior that you were talking about?
It's the police union... they are a union so of course they protect their bad members. You won't find any argument from me on this case, this cop should be prosecuted.

What exactly do you want? Do away with the trial (because you know the juries aren't making the right decision) and just put them in prison?

Seems like you really can't get a conviction of a cop if the cop is tackling that whole 'black while alive thing'.
    Congratulations America

Just like southern juries refused to convict those charged with lynching blacks, particularly when cops were involved.

Again I ask, what exactly do you want done?

Apparently an end to habeas corpus, the bill of rights and a suspension of trial by jury will improve civil rights.

No, I think idiots acknowledging what reality really looks like would be a good start even from Loki's perspective. If we have no good cure at least we can aim for prevention and part of that is to change cultures and attitudes that allow cops to commit injustice with impunity.

I do think removing trial by jury would be a good thing, actually. A primary reason we have that in the Constitution is because the Founding Fathers came from a background where local sentiments trumped law and executive order (righteously, in their opinion) from distant and out of touch government. They wanted smugglers getting away with evading "bad tariffs" and they favored convicting those who did wrong by the locals even if there maybe wasn't really enough to support conviction from someone more learned.

Since that's not going to happen the first step (and the one that would be most effective) would be to finally succeed in educating the people who comprise juries (basically a bunch of Lewks, he's exactly the sort of unquestioning and anti-thought citizen trial lawyers love) that yes, there is actually a problem, this is not some media-hysteria thing to try and save "criminal scum" from being righteously acted against by those who uphold law and order.

So you want to taint the jury pool based on your political perspective? Don't be absurd, the Defense can make the argument they want about police actions. Furthermore what happens in the majority of the cases has no bearing on what happens on the specific case the juror is acting on. I think you need to be more specific on what you mean by education. Three Hour infomercial on police misconduct before every trial?

No, let's just let the majority lynch the minority. It's PC to deal with the issue.

Still waiting for what remedy you are actually proposing.

What's your solution to majorities lynching minorities?

Prosecution. Last time I checked we still killed people who did lynching. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Byrd_Jr.

"Lawrence Russell Brewer was executed by lethal injection for this crime by the state of Texas on September 21, 2011."

In some cases the shoot that people are protesting was a good shoot. (Like that thug Michael Brown) in other cases it was clearly police in the wrong. To the extent it was a purposeful kill and/or adrenaline, poor decision making and stupidity is difficult to tell. For example the idiot who shot the guy on the ground with his hands up? That fuck up needs to be in jail however he probably wasn't out to lynch someone.
