"In a field where an overlooked bug could cost millions, you want people who will speak their minds, even if they’re sometimes obnoxious about it."
Same with all parties. There is a shockingly large support for fascist policies right to the top of the Labour Party here including rampant antisemitism including its leader. I'm sure there is a significant minority of Democrats who support "varying levels or aspects of fascism" but wouldn't call it that too.
I can see that, but admitting as much makes your original response even more shady. Or do I need to add another reminder that only 9% of america voted for trump or clinton? So what every american thinks doesn't really matter all that much at this point?
If that doesn't sink in, here is a short list of all things fascist and trump. I look forward to you nitpicking the weak endorsements and ignoring the harder to explain examples:

Fascism isn't anti-semitic per sé.

You're mistaken, they've always been doctors.
I was sad once -- I know all about depression
I was worried once -- I know all about anxiety
I've gone 34 years without meeting someone with bipolar depression -- bipolar depression doesn't exist
I coughed once -- let me tell about pneumonia buddy
I had a grandmother -- I know what is or is not a stroke
I saw an interview with Michael J. Fox -- it's obvious Clinton has parkinson's disease
I stopped eating gum -- there's nothing you can teach me about addiction
And so on and so forth. The current narrative among Republicans is that Clinton has vascular dementia and parkinson's disease as well as epilepsy and for this reason she's constantly accompanied by a giant black neurologist disguised as a secret service agent who's ready to give her a shot of diazepam at the drop of a pin. I shit you not. Basically the only disease she does not have is a mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.
It's incredible really. With all these generous doctors around I don't understand why on earth people have been paying me for nigh on five years to do my job. They could've just fired me and posted videos of patients on facebook and twitter.
Again, there are a few other possibilities to consider in Clinton's case but she'd have to be treated by incompetents or by Russian agents for those causes to be missed.

Now you know how political scientists feel.![]()
It's also hilarious to see Trump supporters (and some Romney supporters in 2012) become polling experts despite absolutely no understanding of polling methodology. And it would remain in the realm of stupidity if these people didn't then use their "extensive knowledge" to undermine the legitimacy of the electoral system.
Hope is the denial of reality
You sir, are with the greatest respect a fool. I can't stand Trump so why would I nitpick anything whatsoever? It is precisely because I want Trump to lose that I find Clinton imploding so frustrating. If I was OK with Clinton losing I wouldn't be bothered by it.
So where is the shadiness? It will take approximately at least 27% of the American population (approximately 50% of the vote, approximately 55% turnout) to actively go out and cast a vote in favour of Trump in order for him to become President. That just isn't going to happen if 100% of Americans view him as a "fascist demagogue". While a small proportion of the electorate may vote for a fascist demagogue, enough will not. Don't forget that most voters are relatively quite ignorant and barely pay attention to the news, especially compared to us. They hear what they want to hear and go on with their lives not nitpicking but rather letting a lot just wash over them.
With one in five Republicans disapproving of interracial marriages and shockingly large numbers believing that whites are the superior race, that the internment of Japanese Americans was awesome, that Muslims should be banned from entering the US and half the electorate enthusiastically supporting an authoritarian assclown who regularly retweets--and is endorsed by--white supremacists, it really doesn't matter what labels you are or are not comfortable with using--we all know what we're seeing.*

Despite many people's attempts to spin things to the contrary, if Hillary has a noticeable health issue, or just appears to have one, it very much does do negative things to her ability to secure voters here in the last two months of the campaign. It's going to affect her ability to campaign, it's going to affect her presence (already not great) when she does make appearances, and it's going to affect how people evaluate her. Maybe it shouldn't, but it will. Look at Loki up there, spinning. When he knows as well as I do the statistical effect things like height, hair, or the weather have on elections. People's behavior isn't always perfectly rational (particularly if we have a perhaps biased view of what constiutes rational)
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"
Indeed the only way that this would have no effect on the campaign is if the campaign was already over and Trump had already lost. Which Loki has been at pains to state is not the case in which case I fail to see any way to reconcile political science, political history and the pretense that this will make no difference.
There is a difference of course between what you wish will happen and what actually will.
Well, I wish the Trump campaign good luck with keeping this pneumonia story going for the next two months. Maybe they can do a Homeland season 3 style medicine swap, just to make sure Hillary keeps coughing through every speech she intends to make from now untill eternity.
Because we all know from TV that whoever coughs once, is surely doomed.
Congratulations America

Just because random factors influence elections doesn't mean that this is the random factor that will affect this one. The reality is that most things that people claim make a big difference in fact have no impact. Remember the famous Romney 47% line? Absolutely no effect at the polls. A lot of the changes we see in the polls are simply statistical noise or temporary changes in the excitement levels (and therefore willingness to answer polling questions) of one side. When I start seeing people who weren't already Trump supporters saying this will influence their vote, I'll start paying attention.
And I addressed the issue of campaigning. It's true that this illness can keep Clinton from campaigning. But Trump isn't campaigning either (at least not in the battleground states). And he's not even sick. Trump is going to say something stupid again, and everyone but the most die-hard Trump supporters will move on.

"Clinton's numbers dropped to 62% by Sunday night and fell further to 58% Monday afternoon, as the Trump campaign slammed her for her "deplorables" comment.
Meanwhile, Trump's odds of winning the presidency jumped from 28% on Friday to 42% on Monday afternoon."
Still gives the odds to Clinton but Clinton's collapse is news despite what you would wish it to be.

And this happened without a single new poll...markets overreact to short-term information. Come back in a week.
Incidentally, Clinton dropped an entire 1% in the RCP betting market. Maybe CNN should focus more attention on plane crashes. And its "market" involves no cash...

The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun
So much effort is being put into damage control for something so inconsequential.
Seriously, unless it turns out to be worse than pneumonia, this isn't going to last that long - I doubt Trump has the media clout to keep this relevant until the election, and if he tries to keep it alive himself it'll just backfire. Take it easy.
Also, the neo-Nazi meme thing from Steely's list caught my eye. A quick search got me a couple news articles explaining that rare pepes are symbols of white supremacist movements. Really? Really?
Apparently, there was some sort of campaign to, quote, "reclaim pepe from normies" by decorating him with nazi symbols.
There is not enough "Really?" in the fucking universe.

Pepe means a lot of different things to different people. I was at an anime convention just recently where two people were dressed in pepe costumes holding a gay pride flag between them saying spread love not hate.

SourceNew polls released this week suggests Hillary Clinton has a growing problem with millennial voters and that's a major concern for the Democratic presidential nominee. Both national polls and surveys in swing states show Clinton has seen a slide with voters younger than 35, particularly when Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are factored in.
- A national Quinnipiac poll showed Clinton capturing 31% of the vote among voters 18-to-34 years of age and a slim 5-point lead over Trump. In August Clinton had 48% of that vote and a 24-point lead over Trump.
- A Fox News poll of the national electorate showed Clinton winning 37% of the youth vote and leading Donald Trump by 9 points. In August, the poll showed her support at 39% and leading Trump by 8 points.
- In Ohio, a CBS/YouGov poll showed Clinton doing better with voters under 30, winning 51% of them and holding 32-point lead on Trump. But that number was down from August when Clinton won 57% of that vote and a held a 38-point lead.
- A Detroit Free Press poll in Michigan showed a big dip among voters under 35. In the new poll she has 31% of that vote and a 7-point lead over Trump. In August she had 44% of that vote and a 24-point lead.
The lower numbers are a big problem for Clinton because Democrats need a lot of votes from the younger part of the electorate to offset losses they normally get with older voters. Consider 2012 when Millennials gave President Barack Obama his biggest numbers by far. He captured 60% of the under-30 vote in the national electorate, compared to just 37% that went for GOP nominee Mitt Romney.
Obama did even better with that age group in Michigan and Ohio with 63% of the under-30 vote.
...
Clinton's drop in support made the headline, but I'm mostly posting this because holy shit, Johnson is almost neck-and-neck with Clinton. In this demographic, but still, that's impressive for a third-party candidate.
I'd like to see more than one poll show results this extreme before I buy it.
Hope is the denial of reality
I know Johnson and Stein are polling well among young people. But 44% combined? I'd want more than one poll.
I found a reference to a CBS/NY Times poll from last week that had the two independents at 33%. Can't find the age part of that poll though.
Hope is the denial of reality
I'm increasingly worried that Clinton is following the same failed strategy as Remain here - 24/7 relentless Trump is awful (which he is) but no positive vision at all.
Clinton could never hope to match Obama on the "hope and change" spiel, or Bill's "place called Hope", while Trump is infinitely worse than McCain (or any other alternative in my living memory) - but where is the positive vision for the future from Clinton?
I know negative campaigning works but it needs to be done in conjunction with your own story. Other than being a woman, where is the hope that Bill Clinton and Obama had?
I haven't been following the election lately, and I dislike negative campaigning, but I just wanted to mention that in an election with effectively only two choices, saying the other choice is worse (if based on reality) is a valid reason to vote for the less bad option.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
It is indeed and it works but it is a very dangerous tactic if that is your only argument as if for some reason marginal voters decide they are not afraid of the alternative, or are afraid of both, then they are more likely to vote for the one that has the positive case too.
That is why successful Presidential candidates (especially non-incumbents) have tended to include both hope and fear in their campaigns. Hope seems to be missing from Hillary.
