The fact that the Semper run was delayed so that the bomb went off five minutes after the scheduled start time but before the race had began was quite lucky. He succeeded in injuring dozens, had that delay not happened it could have been dozens more like the Boston bombings he copied.

Sounds like the guy had a horrible family life, coupled with some economic and social challenges....which probably made him vulnerable to being "radicalized". That's the same type of thing that leads to joining a gang, or a drug cartel, or other organized crime groups.
But now there's also the internet, where any disenfranchised, disgruntled, disappointed, delusional dude can find sympatico propaganda -- and become a violent 'lone wolf', inspired by any number of groups (including White Nationalists, Sovereign State Patriots, Anti-Abortion Christians, Militant Environmentalists) who advocate violence. Resorting to arson, guns, bombs, even hatchets or knives isn't some phenomenon limited to, or dominated by, Muslims.
