We made it through Matthew and finally have power back after about 60 hours. A few trees down around the property and slight damage to our shed's roof are all we ended up with as far as damage. One neighbor's house was spared a falling tree only by another tree catching it. Others weren't as lucky. An elderly couple down the road, whom I hope were elsewhere at the time, had multiple trees crash through their roof and another than destroyed their garage.

IJN Among the First Centres in The World to Implant a Bio-absorbable Pulmonary Valve Conduit

IJN became the among the first heart centre in the world to implant the latest technology to treat children with congenital heart defect.
IJN Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohd Azhari Yakub today announced to the media that IJN has successfully performed surgeries to implant the “Bio-absorbable Pulmonary Valve (PV) Conduit” on two (2) of its patients yesterday, making them the fifth and sixth patient in the world to underwent this surgery.
The PV Conduit is a polymer based implant device, which is used to correct or reconstruct the Right Ventricular outflow in patients within the age of 2 to 22 years old with congenital malformations such as tetralogy of fallot, truncus arteriosus, pulmonary atresia, transposition of great arteries with VSD and pulmonary stenosis in combination of other defects in cardiovascular heart disease syndromes.

This device would be able to eliminate the potential of inflammation caused by the conventional implants as it is able to dissolve within the body over time, thus enabling the heart to restore its normal function. The current conventional techniques most often require the implantation of new artificial pulmonary valve every five (5) years via open heart surgery, to facilitate the flow of blood from the heart to the lungs.

Finally replaced my 7 1/2 year old desktop with a 5K iMac. It is a thing of beauty and makes me happy.

My motherboard (as most do at this time) has digital out, but no one actually pays the licensing fee for Dolby Digital and DTS support even though all the hardware to support it is there. For a while under Windows 7 I was using hacked drivers for Dolby Digital and they worked amazingly well with my PX5 headphones. Along comes Windows 10 and the hacked drivers no longer work. After holding out for a few months it looked like no one cared enough to get hacked drivers working on Windows 10 and I finally went back to using crappy stereo speakers.

Well randomly yesterday I found that old hacked drivers thread and discovered that a few months ago someone got the hacked drivers working on Windows 10.

I finally have Dolby Digital 5.1 working on optical out on my motherboard!

but heres the thing. The department is 100% male aside from the supervisor who is a documented raging feminist. I dropped a few hints about the questionable hiring of a female into the open position even though she had less experience and I scored high marks on my interview. I also happened to mention I was approached by the union thats forming since they finally found where I live after I put in my change of address.

To avoid any drawn out unpleasantries I was asked to put in for a transfer to a small library close to home (thats getting new digs in ~18 months) and to put together a packet of my achievements to ensure there would be no issues with getting full marks on my yearly evaluation. We're graded on a 1-5 scale and yearly raises are based on where we land on that scale. These evaluations are supposed to be compiled by our supervisors/raters, not the employees themselves. I'm already making more than the position I was going for which meant a flat 5% bump in pay. The annual raise is expected to be only slightly less than that.

So overall I'm content with the transfer and waiting for the next opening.

Happiness has pros and cons. Today was my birthday, and it made me "happy" that my older sister came for the weekend, brought presents, took me out to dinner, etc. But I was just as "happy" that my other sister (who lives farther away) sent a card and some cheap pajamas. What really made me "happy" was getting a text first thing in the morning from my youngest son, and seeing my eldest son before he went to work. It was a nice treat to see both of my children and one of my sisters.

Happiness is relative. Right now I'm pretty happy. I had a good birthday, and I'm one year older but not dead yet

Also, my neighbor took care of all the maple leaves leaves in 1/3 of my yard. He said it's because they came from "his" tree. He said he hoped I didn't mind...but I thanked him for his pretty tree and gave him a big bear hug. What a great neighbor! What a nice birthday gift!

I'm "happy" any time my kids show independent thought. My youngest son said Trump exemplifies the flaws in our culture of entertainment, and Clinton exemplifies the flaws in our politics. Maybe it's no wonder that a reality tv show host became POTUS?

Happy that Thanksgiving Dinner will be prepared by my son, at 'his' restaurant. It sucks that he won't be able to join us for the meal, but it makes me proud (and thankful) that he gets satisfaction from serving others. He's that special kind of person that doesn't mind working on holidays, because he loves what he does.

Party w/ 30 colleagues tonight. Rented our HoA's party/dining hall and it was brill. Beautiful, well-furnished, very well maintained and all of $30 to rent. V. high ceiling, just the way I like it.

Was worried about the music but thanks to chromecast audio that went off without a hitch even though we had to switch sources for background music, games etc, and that's what's making me the most happy right now. Chromecasts have proven to be some of the most useful gadgets I've bought in the past few years.
