You all's argument makes me wonder what is the ratio of Eu population / UK population?
Faith is Hope (see Loki's sig for details)
If hindsight is 20-20, why is it so often ignored?

    EU27 to UK ratios:

    Population: Just under 7 : 1
    GDP: 5.3 : 1

    EU to Swiss ratios
    Population: 63.5 : 1
    GDP: 24.7 : 1

Apples and pears. The Swiss had an arrangement to loose. You are hoping to get one on your terms that do not suit us. There will be no deal.

Looks like India overtook the UK in the size of its economy. I wonder what the Target is for RandBlade 's Brexiteer friends.

As far as the after Brexit deal: according to the AG at the ECJ fta' s are subject to ratification in 48 EU jurisdictions. There will be no deal.
    Congratulations America

Today in Brexitania, from the liars that brought you impossible claims before the referendum, we get 'clean Brexit'. I guess, they didn't like the sound of 'hard Brexit' any longer. Clean Brexit claims to add 450 million of pounds to the British coffers. That includes the fraudulent claim they already made during the referendum (whatever happened to that double decker?) plus another hundred million a week or so because of scrapped 'burdensome regulation'. Makes for a nice headline, but what these liars don't tell is that actually they think most of the regulations they percieve as burdensome they can't even scrap because it would not just remove the UK from the single market, but also make it impossible for them to sell their goods there under any agreement.

Thank God they are being helped along the way by a Minister for Brexit Fantasies who believes that somewhere in this planet it's possible to access markets accounting for then times the size of the EU (15% of international trade if you wonder, do the maths yourself).

I think their auto-correction messed up seriously when it put out clean Brexit where they very obviously meant it to be Crazy Brexit.
    Congratulations America

Though what a stupidly written article. I'd think the people on the industrial estate that use the road to get to work think it leads somewhere. Also misses the fact that its next to "rue Robert Schumann" and "rue Jean Monnet".

And now the Tories are following the lead of the GOP in requiring driver licences or passports to vote. You guys really are great at borrowing the worst parts of our culture.

Well over here you also need it but everyone over 14 has to carry an ID anyway so everybody has one to begin with.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!

I think it's pretty obvious why the Tories are doing this now.

The Pickles report is just another in a long line of disgraceful Tory shenanigans this year. I was especially impressed with the proposed ban on speaking foreign languages at polling stations.

To deal with endemic fraud that led to a judge calling our electoral process under Labour like that of a Banana Republic? I've said for years that you should need ID to vote and unlike on your backwater side of the pond here it is cheap and easy to get ID.

“25. Despite the low numbers of allegations and rare cases of personation being prosecuted, there is a concern that the absence of evidence does not mean this practice is not taking place. And even if it is not, there is a precautionary principle that comes into play in terms of the potential for it to happen.”

    lmao.

But once again the language ban and the shady registries are more entertaining than any photo ID shenanigans. The purging of electoral registries was also quite hilarious. Banana Republic is definitely an appropriate term

Does that mean that the Brexit vote is called into question?

I mean, if voter fraud is endemic and all...

It's not a laughing matter and entirely right. If you want to board a plane you need to bring some damn ID but voting is less serious than flying is it? That's the real lmao.

I don't know what the fudge you're talking about regarding a language ban or shady registries. The so called purging of the electoral register was an entirely appropriate correction to it too. People who were removed were those who'd failed to confirm their details after a minimum of 14 attempts to verify them. People removed could if they were eligible to vote reregister before the next ballot.

Voting is absolutely less serious than flying considering issues with terrorism etc, however I rarely have to show ID when flying domestic or in the Schengen area.

The language ban is a proposed ban, at polling stations, on speaking languages other than English and Welsh. Another proposal is to compile registries of people who are NOT eligible to vote, effectively a register of foreign nationals.

Hardly surprising to see you defending a measure that went against the recommendations of an independent electoral commission and led to the removal of 800,000 eligible voters as well as new flawed constituency boundaries that will benefit the tories. Fucking banana republic, no doubt.
"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."

  18. #1278
I've not heard of either of these proposals so can't comment on them. I can understand the logic of banning foreign languages within the polling station since there is absolutely not a right to free speech in the polling station. Tellers there are supposed to ensure certain speech does not happen to influence people's ballots and how can they do that if the conversation is happening in a foreign language?

Your claim that 800,000 "eligible voters" were removed is complete bullshit of the highest order. Educate yourself on what really happened. By the way my wife was one of those "eligible voters" removed in the purge. Or more particularly my fiancée was removed while my wife's registration was kept.

Tell you what, since you disagree with the estimate I've offered, why don't you offer your own estimate of how many eligible voters were removed? Let's compare relevant notes rather than talking about your wife.

On that topic I have not been able to find a source supporting your claim that names were removed only after 14 unsuccessful attempts to contact them, and of course the claim can't be put into context. So if you have a source for that claim it would be nice to see it. All I've seen is that, if someone requests a person be removed from the rolls, that person is notified and is removed unless he acts within 14 days.

Word for word the argument of self-serving GOPers who've opposed national IDs for decades but suddenly decided IDs are important when they figured out they could be used to reduce the black turnout.

I will find a source when I'm not on my phone at work but will put the number of people improperly removed at 0.

Except I've supported requiring proof of identity to vote for many years and it's not an about face. All your concerns are just bullshit slanders and excuses when you can barely sneeze without needing ID now. In order to hire someone I need to take a copy of either a passport or TWO forms of government issued ID. That requirement is on all employers in order to hire anyone for anything you can't get a job anywhere without ID. If I fail to maintain my records properly and have on file everyone's ID then I can have my business shut down and/or go to prison for that!

In order to open a bank account you again need proof of identity first.

In order to rent accommodation you need proof of identity. Rent a property to someone without ID and again you can go to prison for that.

If the Royal Mail hold a parcel for me at the Post Office then I need ID to collect it.

Now if you need ID in order to get a job, a bank account, accommodation etc then I fail to see how it is extra burdensome to require it to vote. If for some reason people are prevented from proving identify and thus voting you're also denying them the right to live and work here too.

So, again, there obviously was massive fraud at the Brexit vote then. How about a re-vote?

In every single one of those situations there are a range of alternatives to photographic ID cards. You can meet legal requirements for checking an employee's right to work or a prospective tenant's right of residency in different ways. Determining--through examination of proof of address--whether or not a person is eligible for opening a bank account is something that is to a great extent left to the discretion of individual banks, and different types of accounts have different requirements. 1 in 20 UK households are, nevertheless, unbanked.

One thing I couldn't figure out was why those national ID cards everyone was talking about a few years ago couldn't be used as identification for voting purposes. But I realize now why they can't be used for such purposes: you fucking clowns scrapped the scheme. Loki's right. Shame on you.

How do you go from "there is very little evidence of fraud but we should use the precautionary principle" to "there was obviously massive fraud". Walk me through your train of thought please if you have one.

endemic banana-republic style electoral fraud except during the referendum and any other election won by RB's side

Remarkable too the lack of hysteria over the fact that photo ID has long been demanded before voting in Northern Ireland without any problems caused by this.

Endemic doesn't mean massive. If I'd meant to say there was massive fraud I'd have said massive fraud, instead I wrote endemic.

Read the debate. Pretty damn obvious the Tories don't want immigrants voting in London.

Not particularly remarkable. A range of IDs are accepted and they don't even have to be current. People without photo ID can, in theory, get one for "free".

No. What's really remarkable is this quote:

"This bill is the first step of many that this government is taking to reduce the control of the state over decent, law-abiding people and hand power back to them.

"With swift parliamentary approval, we aim to consign identity cards and the intrusive ID card scheme to history..."

Just read the opening speech (what the Tory said) he didn't even mention either London or immigrants so not sure what part of your backside you pulled that from but it's quite clear you're an extremist loon with your head in the sand here. What he does propose instead is mirroring Northern Ireland's system where ID can be received for free. It's also repeatedly mentioned that "The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Electoral Commission all recommend the use of ID in voting." But not it's all a conspiracy in your eyes FFS

Yes Loki and the moon landings were faked too.

Good so should deal with all concerns people have. In fact I missed which he mentioned buying cigarettes and alcohol as things that require photo ID in this day and age too.

This proposal isn't introducing identity cards.
