This just refuses to die. Why do congressmen waste time on this sort of thing?

Well the UN is pretty shitty lately. I see NATO as having far more strategic importance than the UN. For the record I don't think we should leave since we have veto power over everything but I could see Trump using this to symbolically push for a cut into the amount of funding we provide to it.

You are aware the UN is more than just the security council and general assembly right?

It does stuff (humanitarian aid, ICJ etc) but it doesn't have to be the body that does it. Furthermore when it continues to be an embarrassment with its anti-Israel obsession, absurd declarations and utterly nonsensical SJW bullshit... (http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/13/health...bassador-trnd/ )

No body that does such stuff will ever be more in our pocket, Lewk. It is structured in such a way that we always have and always will have far more influence and power in its operations than our population, funding, or global presence would actually merit. It is built in the image that suits us and operates in a manner amenable to us far more so than it does for any other power. Do you think an international body created by and dominated by the Chinese would be more to our liking? The WHO alone. . .

Aimless, no they don't have anything better to do. And they do a lot of material that's even more of a waste of time. Note, for instance, that the guy who did this is also co-sponsoring a bill to repeal the entire tax code. Not with a new code to put in its place, just a suggestion that a new one be developed. AFTER repeal.
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"

Someone should introduce a bill to repeal him. What a damn' waste.

It's "fulfill campaign promises" time. Time for him and all the others to sponsor and cosponsor legislation that will go nowhere but which they can point to and say "see, I said I would and I did. Not my fault nasty big government and evil DC refused to go along. Remember to vote for me again, you can see from that record that I'm out to rein in this federal monster."

Are you so confident it goes nowhere? Especially if the UN raises a stink about us moving our Israeli embassy to Jerusalem?
Hope is the denial of reality

Well, that means the UN goes to the ash heap of history; for the nice people in the populist corning just being the best you can get rather than what you want to get simply doesn't cut it. Brexit gave us that little lesson again; the perfect is a sublime weapon when used against what has been achieved.
    Congratulations America
