I doubt the American voters intended any ban to hit people who have lived and worked in the US for years and who happened to be on a business trip of vacation. Being shut out of the country for 3 months probably will be enough to destroy lives. Missing 3 pay checks can mean you lose your home too.

In other news, May did manage some lukewarm criticism for Trump's muslim ban. Hopefully, she also has a the common decency and even common sense to cancel this proposed state visit. It would shame this country greatly if Trump were allowed to use the UK's reputation, or what's left of it, to legitimize and normalize his regime.
Apparently, one obstacle to the visit is Trump being reluctant to meet Prince Charles, who would likely call him out for being a piece of shit. Along with Shia LaBeouf's nazi punching* antics, this crisis is producing some unlikely heroes.

Let's get some perspective and not pretend we only offer state visits to nice people. It's not that long ago we had a state visit from China - a one party state that imprisons it's political opponents and bans free speech. The American electorate have gone for an arsehole but he's still nowhere near that bad.
We will work with America like China because of realpolitik. We face the world how it is not how we wish it to be.
While nasty characters are given state visits, the same is rarely true for leaders in the middle of making the situation worse. It sends a bad signal about the current policies.

It only shows this government's absolute idiocy when they fire people wholesale without any notification beforehand AND do not have their successors already setup. Not to mention that passing on knowledge seems to be something that's not important.
Also, the manner in which they were let go is despicable: Those were people who worked several decades for the ministry. And all they get is an unceremonial memo to get out.
