The record of the first 12 votes doesn't exist? We have records of every vote easily accessible online. What happened to your records?

This analysis isn't comparing apples with oranges it is comparing apples with cider.

The Senate has, in the past, often confirmed cabinet members without holding roll-call votes. difficult to make a rigorous comparison.

I know you and Aimless (who I've had this discussion with as well) are willing to grasp at any indicators at all but I'm pretty firmly in the camp that bad information/analysis is worse than no information/analysis.

We could compare the vote to confirm Sessions in 1986 to the vote to confirm him in 2017.

But the intercepts do confirm that some of the conversations described in the dossier took place between the same individuals on the same days and from the same locations as detailed in the dossier, according to the officials. CNN has not confirmed whether any content relates to then-candidate Trump.

On an unrelated note, what's the penalty for treason in the US?

The Grammy's last night were like a 3 and half hour fuck trump performance. Everyone tried to get a dig in and entire sets were performed against him. No way he lets it all slide without saying something.

Pretty disturbing to see The Atlantic of all magazines attempt to rewrite alt-history in this fashion:

Heh sales for her music skyrocketed. Frankly this is marketing genius. Like you said everyone was there to say 'fuck you' to Trump meaning they all blended in. The one person who was like "yeah MAGA!!" gets rewarded for standing out.

I'm obviously no fan of the Republicans, but even I am a little shocked and the nakedness of their hypocrisy at the moment.

The party that will, in general, start an congressional investigation every time a senior Democrat drops a pencil is apparently totally uninterested in the extremely strong indications of nigh on treasonous behavior by the Trump administration. The party that spent years beating it's chest and claiming to be the 'party of small government' and proud, principled defenders of the constitutions in order to oppose perfectly sensible and human policies like gun control and universal health-care now doesn't give a fuck at Trump's repeated attacks on the principle of separation of powers and his unconstitutional executive orders, nor does it care that he apparently has ICE going door to door asking people for 'ze papers'. The party that repeatedly tells everyone how patriotic they are and how you can't trust wishy washy democrats to be big and tough on national security doesn't give a shit about the countries own intelligence services giving credence to a dossier claiming that the President is in thrall of Russia, a country that has been an enemy of America for long than most of us here have been alive. They went on and on about how great the free market was, and now they don't are that the President is an open protectionist. They don't give a fuck that the President has brought literal white nationalists into the very heart of American government.

Now, to be clear, all political parties be they left or right indulge in this sort of thing to a lesser extent. Obviously, conservatives have to a lot more because, let's be honest, their positions won't stand up to any kind of moral or intellectual scrutiny without this sort of slight of hand. Be in general, this sort of thing is part of politics... but I've never seen it this open, or this extreme before.

As the Republicans enjoy their greatest electoral victory in ages, controlling the house, the senate and the presidency they're at their absolute nadir intellectually and morally. Like, they are completely debased at this point. They are completely open about the fact that they have absolutely no principles, no interest in serving anyone other than their corporate backers and no ideology save vindictively lashing out at marginalized groups of people whose existence offends them.

Also, I hope all those smug "both sides are bad!" motherfuckers (you know who you are) out there feel like idiots.

Not investigating only shows that there is still more they are hiding. They don't want to risk the connections coming to light. Considering the type of fools that voted these people into office its better to look like assholes now than traitors down the line.

Huh. See, when I do a quick news search on the terms Senators, Flynn, and Investigation, I get articles talking about how Blunt (R, Missouri), Cornyn (R, Texas), and Graham (R, SC) are calling for further investigation and McConnel, the Senate Majority Leader, saying it's coming. But you and Lewki don't make the slightest reference to those, just to this one. And in fact, these are the ONLY comments of their kind by a GOP Senator I see anywhere. I wonder what the reason is for this discrepancy? I know it can't be that you two are just acting like Rand Paul's liberal mirrors, that would make your criticisms nothing but rank hypocrisy.

Could it be that these promises are always conditioned on crap the GOP knows won't happen? I'll believe it when I see it.

The best I could find from McConnel is “highly likely,” while the links above are strong NOs. McConnel was also against special committees to investigate Russian interference with the election.

The most recent quote I can find from Burr, the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee has him praising Flynn and backing Trump's decisions. Has he said anything since?

Of course the discrepancy may also easily be explained by a slight lag in reporting or in the dissemination of that news to the sources Loki and OG follow. McConnell hasn't expressed any interest in a separate and independent investigation or in instating a commission with greater authority eg. to prosecute, relying instead on the ongoing (well, allegedly ongoing ) investigation and reluctant to openly say that this changes anything from his perspective. Acknowledging alternative explanations would of course require you to temporarily distance yourself from your current favourite tWF fan-theory which may be too much to expect because it would no doubt make you very sad

It's been absolutely fascinating to follow the social media coverage btw. Fox's most vocal viewership seems to have been a little conflicted at first but have now settled on a comforting narrative in which Flynn is a respected and competent member who did the honorable thing by resigning due to the mere appearance of wrongdoing (the result of a cruel and treasonous campaign by fake-news leftist media) and Trump demonstrated his excellent leadership qualities by conducting a thorough but swift investigation and then letting Flynn go. Now we need to move on, liberals need to stop trying to constantly undermine the President and the US itself, and we need to root out the people responsible for these illegal leaks. These things happen in every administration but at least alt-Republicans have the integrity to resign, whereas Killary/Hitlery and Odumbo persistently engaged in their treasonous anti-American, pro-ISIS, Russia-appeasing activities for eight years. I gotta tell you guys, Fox's Facebook page is really trippy.

Flynn lied to Pence, that means he had to go. The fact that things happened quickly is a plus. Overall this isn't Trump demonstrating excellent leadership however and that's just partisans being partisans. Trump has a problem with leaks and he needs to get that under control swiftly.

  26. #2456
If Flynn lied to Pence, the WH knew about it for weeks, judging from other reports. They let Flynn go only after the sensational leak. The explanation doesn't hold up, nor can the WH's initial reaction be characterized as "swift". Of course, once this exploded all over non-Fox media, they reacted "quickly"--but so quickly that they were unable to find a suitable replacement for Flynn in time for his resignation. To quote WaPo, this is what incompetence looks like.

He was briefed about North Korea in the middle of a country club. They read over classified documents using the lights from their android phone cameras. The guy who carries the football was taking selfies with club members.

Trump has a long way to go before understanding anything about leaks and security.

So how did you go from caring about unprotected emails to not giving a damn about highly sensitive material about North Korea being aired in public?

If he lied, Pence would have known weeks ago (at least Trump is claiming he knew for weeks). Yet the resignation takes place now.

Incidentally, now there's evidence that multiple other Trump aides were not only talking to the Russians during the campaign, but talking to Russian intelligence agents: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/14/u...ons-trump.html
