Thread: Russia Joining OPEC and Environmentalism

But again, going by your logic, that number (if true) is only true because Chinese labor is relatively cheap to other places that might have those metals -- like New Hampshire. New Hampshire had a good bit of active mines before it got wildly uncompetitive with Asian sources.

Aside: I went to one of those mines once -- it got turned into a sort of mine-your-own-rocks park. It was mildly interesting; we couldn't really mine our own though, and it wasn't allowed. (that wasn't on the brochure!) We were only allowed to take the rocks that had been left after the owners had done some explosions and ferreted out the most valuable rocks.

I'm not so sure about that - because about 2 years ago (maybe more like 18 months) the Chinese mine [singular] or ore processing plant that supplies virtually all the world's supply of whatever the hell REE is used in LCD monitors shut down due to some undisclosed industrial accident (it probably caught fire, collapsed or exploded, as happens from time to time in China), which caused a 6 month delay in the manufacture of new LCDs... which I became aware of in my duties as a techie, when every LCD OEM (Sony/Samsung/Viewsonic/etc) and reseller (Dell/HP/IBM/etc) stopped accepting new B2B orders for flatscreens. So I was stuck waiting for about 6 weeks for on an order of some ~60 computers - no LCD monitors/LCD laptop screens available.

If it was a simple matter of hiring some miner for a few months to dig the stuff out of a mine in New Hampshire, someone would have done it (and made a killing while the Chinese supply was offline). So there's definitely more to it than *just* labor costs in China. Maybe it's heavy industry overhead costs associated with having an REE mine/processing plant, or an issue of the Chinese mines having vastly higher concentrations of those metals, or whatever... but it's definitely something.

Yeah, I doubt opening a mine for just six months in the US (or any developed country) is economically feasible, especially since the permits will probably take 5 months. :P But it's an interesting story, worth looking into. Maybe you can find a link to a news story about it? I couldn't find anything.

    I did find this:
    http://www.minersnews.com/Dec07Jan08/Domestic.htm

Clearly, the supply exists. It's just a matter of the right financial incentive.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow - gonna sleep now.

I did a quick search for the incident and got flooded with the news about the LCD shortage caused by last month's earthquake in Taiwan instead. And also learned that in addition to that, there's currently an LCD manufacturing problem blamed on a "global glass substrate shortage." And I don't even know what a glass substrate is! This stupid fucking planet... don't they know it's against the rules to have two different LCD shortages in as many years?

Seditious, with occasional outbreaks of full-blown treason.

Since this D&D thread has turned into a train wreck, anyway...

Does the black and french negate the significant likelihood of impressive size that comes with the j00?

    I'll be so disappointed.

    Joo? what's that?

And i'm keeping this thread alive because Cain said he needs a few days to muster up some good pro going green points or more ways to get me expelled.

    Finnish colloquialism for yes
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.

Well, "lolli" made you sound like some kind of pedophile, i assumed you were a troll (or gay) because of "licking lollipops", and you thought it would be cute to have Hello Kitty look like Hitler.

How can you be in AP classes and unable to recognize your dictators?

You know, I don't think anyone has ever actually called me male on the interwebs before. It's kinda cool.

It's okay, everyone knows a woman's place is on her knees.

Making assumptions is a bad idea. You should learn that now, while you are still young.

You can, however, probably safely assume you will never meet anyone else who compares with me.

Hey baby, where do you live? I'm a sexy 7 foot Italian swimmer. better?

  25. #55
No, not at all. You should try really hard to not be a DBZer anymore, at least not here. I really hate people who are taller than me, too. Italians are great, though. I went through a whole collection of them a little less than a year ago.

I have another thing, too. Since you're taking 5 AP classes and involved in decent after school activities, you really should try to present yourself that way, even here. How you present yourself really does go a long way toward how you will be received.

I think I might even like you. Just not if you stay incoherent.

Were you on Atari? How else could you have possibly known about DBZ...And i'm pretty sure i never even mentioned my gaming affiliation...yet.

How tall are you? Most women tend to be around the 5"2 or 5"5 range with a standard deviation of 2.394. There are some slight outliers causing the data to be rightly-skewed; however, by using a large sample size....fuck AP Statistics...

Fiiiine, i'll reread what i write before posting it. But i really do have trouble with English as it is my fourth language. If i type too quickly, i'll make mistakes a 10-year-old would make and when i speak too quickly, my french accent surfaces like bad camembert. ho ho, i crack myself up sometimes.

OMG, someone might like me. YES.

Look, I'll be able to find the thread whether you throw a bunch of spam onto the end of it, or not. I'm super-talented like that, so maybe you ought to consider whether I'll be more or less motivated to come back and respond to a thread which has devolved into you trying to pick up chicks over the internet.

Also wondering about your other talents, but meh...

I fail to see how I was trying to pick her up. she's probably in her twenties. Cougars are gross and i might as well know her better since she's nice? I'd rather not associate myself with you as you’re a French Jew.

Did you know that Jaw played backwards is a giant shark spitting people out causing a beach to open in order to compensate for gnarly dudes and dudettes.
