Thread: US protests against police violence

I never suspected that setting a McDonald's on fire could help to fight racism.
I never suspected that stealing a 45 inch TV could help to fight racism.
I never suspected that lynching the owner of a store could help to fight racism.
Probably my IQ is very low, because I still do not understand how those actions help to fight racism.
Freedom - When people learn to embrace criticism about politicians, since politicians are just employees like you and me.

Oh don't you know - whenever you are upset with the government you should burn private companies down. That only makes sense.

Burning other people's property is bad. But anyone who cares more about destroyed property than about respect for the fundamental rights of people - including the right to life, to assemble, or to report on government abuses - is not a democrat, a Christian, or a good person. Worshiping the state and its provision of law & order is classical fascism.

False Dilemma fallacy, you can be opposed to both. Not to mention of course that the looting and rioting has led to multiple deaths far in excess to unarmed folks killed by police.

Start showing that you're opposed to both. Where are your posts condemning violence, murder and thuggery within the Police against the people they're supposed to serve and protect?

When you only comment from one side then you're not opposed to both.

In a country that isn't an uncivilized shithole, this might be regarded as sexual assault or rape, and the perpetrators might be facing jail time:

"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."

Yeah, it's that building shouldn't have burned down but McDonald's is no angel. They have a history of labour, health, environmental and sexual harassment violations going back decades. Plus, the corporation as a whole has been resisting being held responsible for labour violations of it's own franchises. If they hadn't been resisting, that building probably wouldn't have been burnt down. Something to think about.

Let's have some hump day fun, how are you going to quantify such a statement?

Sure people in general can, but you don't have that luxury. You have made clear beyond any doubt that a human life is not worth the price of a tube of tooth paste to you.
    Congratulations America

You really are clueless, they didn't burn down a McDonalds for labor violations, they did it because they wanted to see shit burn.

It was already full of flammable materials and would likely have burned down anyway.

Its owner was a crook and a thief anyway so he deserved it. The largest source of theft in this country by a massive margin is wage-theft.

Y'all joke, but that's a good part of the reason for why these local branches of megacorps are being targeted. McDonalds is a shit place to work for and Target's worker moral has been tanking for years. Yeah there is an angle of opportunity that needs to come into play, but there is a lot of anger in the community for how they are treated and taken advantage of with past employers too. A lot of getting even and insurance will cover it mentality.

Resistance has to start somewhere. And with people being so convinced that between a human life and a tube of tooth past the tube of tooth paste is the more valuable, hitting at material posessions sounds like as good a starting point as any.

Little bit of advice, don't park your car anywhere a policeman could get scared by it. Four new tyres is expensive and a bit of a drag.
    Congratulations America

So next time a 2A protest is mad at an unconstitutional restriction on gun ownership passed by a city can they go burn down a planned parenthood? You see how stupid this is? Attacking a third party in protest of the actions of government is ethically wrong always.

You yourself don't believe this. Why do you pretend you do?

It is an example of the stupidity of burning down a third party for what someone else did. "I don't like A so I'm going to attack B." Morally indefensible.

To ask a potentially silly question, which may have already been answered - is there any evidence to show that the killing of George Floyd was racially motivated?

The Police Report for the Killing of Breonna Taylor Is Almost Entirely Blank

How many bad apples did it take for this to be considered ok?

Ah, Lewky has another thing he puts above a human life in value; hysteria about gun control in a country where it’s easier to get a gun than a drink when you’re under age.

I think the people of Minneapolis are well beyond giving their police force the benefit of the doubt on racism having been a driving force. Their elected representatives have giving up on reforming them.

Does it feel good to come to their defense? I suggest you watch the footage of the killing and try to imagine what was going through that dead eyed white face as he squashed the life out of George Floyd.

But do not stop before the full time is up.
    Congratulations America

That's an interesting response. Why do you think I'm "coming to their defense"?

What that cop did was heinous and there's no excuse.

I'm merely asking whether there's evidence that it was racially motivated. It's a perfectly valid question to ask given the response.

  26. #236
People that have worked with the cop during OT security have given interviews about the cop being overly aggressive with black patrons, he also has several racially charged complaints in his file.

There are rumors going around that it may have been personal. No compelling evidence, nor does it really matter.

I'm not sure the reason for those complaints have been disclosed, have they? (Brief Googling...)

And aren't the the protests, fundamentally, about racial inequality? So it does seem to matter to a lot of people, doesn't it?

I appreciate this is a sensitive subject. I've no intention of upsetting anyone and belittling a cause. It's just a question that's been bugging me.

The main source for those complaints is his employer in his job on the side as security worker at a bar/night club. His victim has worked at the same place but not in the same shifts as far as I know.

There's a term for Germans during the 30s and 40s who joined the Nazi party not because they were committed anti-Semites or white supremacists, but because they were German nationalists or because it was personally convenient for their careers, or because they'd been taken in by Nazi propaganda or because they thought the uniforms were cool, for a million other reasons. That word is "Nazi".

The protests are happening because the police can kill and abuse with impunity, especially if the victim is a Black American, break the law and exceed their authority constantly, lie constantly and the justice system and the entire political system is basically cool with that, and in fact, pays a stupid into police budgets to do so while the rest of the country crumbles. Who honestly gives a fuck what was in the head of this particular asshole he when he killed Floyd? Was it a race thing, or a personal thing, or was he just killing for the fun of it? I could not give less of a shit.
