The US is ranked #36 and considered a "Deficient Democracy". Note that Germany, Italy, and Japan all rate higher and are considered "Working Democracies".

Germany and Japan are no surprises. Our ranking vis a vis Italy is just hurtful though. I don't see a definition of terms on what makes working or deficient though.


I also notice the Nordic Four have all the top spots. I smell a standards bias

The partial upholding of Affirmative Action schemes in Grutter v. Bollinger does make the case that there is a lack of equality in America since it allows race to be a factor in admissions, an obnoxious violation of equality and an act of blatant racism.

FYI, legacy admissions in universities overwhelmingly benefit rich, white students, and a far larger number of students get in because of legacy status than because of affirmative actions. The same is true indirectly in many large firms, where knowing someone is at least as important as having the right skills.
