I'm in favor of testing myself. There's certainly a great case to be made for not requiring it but if it's allowed for consideration at all then at the top schools it's going to end up a de facto requirement anyway. And if the choice is between being able to consider test scores or ignore them, you're choosing to disadvantage/excuse a worthy set of students who will do well at your institution either way.

I also can't help but suspect that the "more diverse backgrounds" result would end up being a blip in the long run. The sudden and ultimately temporary nature of the general suspension in testing just meant the usual suspects hadn't been set up to game the altered system yet. Give it 5-10 years under a "no testing" standard and I'll bet you'll see that variance disappear.

I am a weeb...

But on a serious note, Asians in America are proof superior cultures produce superior outcomes. Whereas any comparison using a a "white" culture would immediately draw concerns of xenophobia as the root of the comparison, by making a case of comparing cultures of two minority groups the attached xenophobia doesn't make sense. Hell Asian culture has produced superior outcomes in comparison to homegrown Americans. The data is there.
