Well, not technically true... a fair number of them would probably advocate banning "synthetic" drugs... like they do with any other thing you put in your body which isn't totally natural. Well, almost every other thing. Apparently a plastic hose is "natural" enough to put in your body, provided you shove it up your ass and run water through it, but giving steroids to cows or using synthetic pesticides on vegetables is wrong.

Of course, it's entirely possible they'd be too stoned to notice that a lot of drugs aren't "natural," and on that basis would not endorse banning them, so I suppose you're correct, so long as the hippies stay high.

I wonder if there's a forum or something where we could ask.
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun

Hey! You guys are screwing up on the hippie thing. Really.

Smoking damages others. Parents smoking in front of their children is no better than child abuse.

Do you think its the governments job at all to protect people from others? Besides I was just pointing out the hypocrisy, the alternative I listed as being acceptable otherwise was the legalisation of heroin/crack cocaine/marijuana etc

Do you have a single reason why tobacco should be legal, while marijuana/heroin etc should be illegal apart from inertia?

And do you seriously consider ME to be left-wing?

Government is a necessary evil. Because humans are imperfect we do need laws that protect us from some people randomly killing or stealing stuff. Being safe from within our own borders or out our borders requires a government. The more limited that government (as long as it effectively deals with threats) the better.

I don't care about the damage tobacco does to yourself, but it does plenty of damage to others.

Its perfectly legal to chainsmoke cigarettes in front of children or while pregnant and the amount of damage that causes to others is not nice at all.

But people don't do it right, otherwise it wouldn't be an issue.

So you never smoke in public places Cain? On the street?

Nope. Car, lawn and the loading bay at work (it's one of those "smoke here areas"), or the other assorted smoking pens we get herded into. Of course, I can't even remember the last time I walked down a public street, so that could be part of the reason. I mean, I jog around the neighborhood, but I don't smoke when I jog, so, yeah.

And, just for shits and giggles... what's the *actual* increased rate of disease caused by second hand smoke? Say, for someone who breathes it in 8 hours a day, 5 days a week at their place of employment? The answer may shock you!

Given that there's no workplaces anymore here or in many places where smoking is allowed at workplaces ...

OK, well from the studies done it back before it was banned under the guise of being a public health hazard. C'mon, play along... it'll be fun.

If you throw a guess out there, I'll even throw up the answer in a couple hours when I get home...

Probably millions of parents think it's great their kids don't smoke, drink, do drugs or have sex. But they're busy huffing or pimping or doing something lewd or stupid on their computer. They just learn how to hide it better. Didn't we all do that?

ha ha, my parents are so stupid
    Yeah.
I'm thinking of "An Incovienent Truth", a good message that we could be doing better in things environmentally, gets brushed aside because of it's over-exaggerated presentation.

    For example..

Rather agree with the first line, shame the silliness of the second one caused it to be ignored.

  13. #43
Yeah, plus---this old hippie loves the smell of tobacco. What a bummer no one smokes a pipe any more.

My kid can go to the head shop now, excuse me--the Tobacconeer--and he bought some papers and REAL loose tobacco in a pouch. That's probably "healthier" than the manufactured shit with chemicals added (to snuff them out, you know).

I also get a kick out of the Amish tobacco farmers around here.

I miss joe camel Say what you want about it pushing kids towards smoking, but you can't deny kids were able to identify the camel just as well as McDonalds.

Joe at least made all the advertisements at the 7-Eleven interesting.

I'm with Crowheart on this. I pretty much agree with the first sentence. Too bad the likes of the second sentence destroys any chance oyu have of getting people to listen to your message.

When I read the first post, my reaction was to say "this ain't right. But I think most governments are doing this kind of thing because of the hideous costs. Health care costs are skyrocketing enough as is. No need to create millions of additional people with icky illnesses that require long-term expensive health care.

Maybe the government should make ALL of our decisions for us because they know what’s better for us and we should wear straitjackets in order to protect ourselves from the evil-pandering-egoist-fiend Lord of the Flies believes lays sleeping deep within said humanity. That is the very being the government is trying so hard to suppress and stifle.

^ total bullshit. I'm honestly with Cain on this one. We need to topple the current government, have an inquisition and eliminate all the individuals deemed "defective". By doing this, we can have a civilization which is much closer to a utopia than the current one. All we'll need to do is reinstate a government which should be the >only< centralized body in this new nation.

Additionally, if we were to burn all those killed, we could save a bundle and we wouldn't pollute the environment per se.

I agree, and commend you for your sacrifice for the greater good!

Please report to the nearest Vaporization Center as soon as possible.

Shit, I knew someone was going to tell me to kill myself...I forgot to add it in there.

Would it be more fun torturing me first? Then slowly letting me die so you can use my body as fuel for your fireplace?

  19. #49
Same reason the Borg disintegrate and don't explode. Efficiency. You're not worth the effort, and there's better fuel all over the place. Besides, we wanted to topple the government to get rid of inefficiency, so why give them another task to screw up?

I've always been an elitist when it came to the topic of "how much does this group contribute to humanity?". It is sad and it is pathetic how dependant so many African Americas are on the welfare system. Big Bertha be having 20 children just for some sweet cha-ching, she's a leech, a parasite. she deserves to be eliminated.

I'd say you gave me a skateboard because it quickened the formation of supremacist ideas.

  22. #52
Nice. You played the "shiftless African Americans" card. You really are a work. Nothing more charming than a minority coming to the US and ranking on other minorities.

    Oh, hush.

It's much easier to keep the mud-peoples in line when they're too busy fighting each other to join together in rebellion against the supreme Aryan race.

    Fixed.

Last time I checked, Americans complained the high-leveled jobs were being taken by the Asians.
Last time I checked, Americans complained the low-leveled jobs were being taken by the Latinos.

    White people, watta joke.

    Azn. Its pronounced "Azn"...
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.

So I take it that since I gave you those two options, you've decided to go with accepting the fact that you're an asshole, and that we should treat you as such? Sounds fine by me.

Of all Americans, a fairly small fraction understand that Pakistan is in Asia. Of those complaining about losing such jobs, virtually none know that Pakistan is in Asia.

So you can trust that they ain't referring to you.

1] You're one of the few people I've actually interacted with who hasn't said, "NO U MORON, PAKISTAN IZ IN THE MIDDLE EAST!!!!! U HAXED MAP!!!!".

2] I never actually said Pakistan. I meant Asia[ns] in general. Japaneses, Koreans (we have a shitload of those in VA), Chinese, Pakistanis, Indians, Vietnamese, Philippians, and so on.

I'm essentially correct. I'm pretty sure even you agree with me on this.

    Actually, you're technically correct.

But, since, "essentially" no Americans know that Pakistan is in Asia, "essentially" none of them are complaining about Pakis taking skilled work away from Americans, so... "essentially," you're wrong.

You'd only be "essentially" correct if you came from the other side of the border and worship cows, sorry.

I almost choke on a hot, long, hard sausage when I read that.

    Fine, I'm empirically correct.
