Of course, in both cases, they also restrict who can join that party, so that only people who meet with the leadership's approval can even enter politics. In a lot of ways, it's really just a slightly more inclusive type of dictatorship.

There was actually recently a story about political parties in China. There are several other legal parties, and they do have platforms that are different from the CCP. But they're basically a front for the CCP and not allowed to openly criticize it.

There are actually dozens of parties in the US (we even have a registered Communist Party, woohoo), but there are only two of any significance because the American system effectively works in a winner-take-all manner, so there's really only room for two significant parties - the winner, and the opposition (2nd place) party.
It kinda sucks, but then again, looking at parliamentary politics and legislation in European/Western systems that make more allowances for plurality, it doesn't seem to make that huge of a difference either way. Looks more like the fundamental problem is letting a bunch of low-IQ ignoramuses have a voice in things well beyond their comprehension. Turns out that this might not be the best way to achieve intelligent governance. Who knew?

You can't take WSJ seriously. They write opinions as if those were scientific truths.
WSJ says:
