Default For all those with children

I wanted to know how bamf you think your children are. Well, more like what do you think they do or how far they go with shit? I wanna see some good fashion, "my son/daughter is an angel" because let me tell you this much. My generation is pretty fucked up compared to any of its predecessors.

I've read your post twice, and I still don't know what you want.

He wants to know about rose-colored glasses, I think.

My children are still young enough to be mostly innocent. They are also both exceptionally attractive, and it isn't likely to change, so I am likely to have headaches soon enough.

My daughter kissed a boy on the bus, who is a sweetheart who moved to a different neighborhood, and is still her "boyfriend."

My son had a girlfriend, but he broke up with her because she was crazy. He likes a little girl in his class who lives nearby, but her boyfriend is the fundie kid.

I have no illusions about what I have to look forward to, though.

For all of those who have children around my age. What do you think your children do behind your back? What do you expect them to do? I want to see where adults stand on this topic because what I tell my parents and what I actually do are two VERY different things.

If you're under 30, I'd agree with you, but once you're approximately 35 or so, you drastically change, your goals, expectations, and whatnot.

The thing there is, well, I think it would be pretty damned near impossible for my kids to be "worse" than I was in my teenage years. I have no intention of a public discussion of it, so don't bother. And, before you get your odd teenage superiority thing again - I am probably smarter than you. I scored near perfect on the old SATs, scored 5s on all my AP exams many years ago, have the ability to actually apply what I know, and never had to work for any of it. When I was in 4th grade I had my English teacher informing my mother with a PhD in English that it was inappropriate for her to be writing my work for me. And my high school years were screwy, by anyone's standards.

So no, I have no doubts at all about what is in store for me.

Oh, and one other small detail - my son makes me look like a gibbering idiot who can't add two and two.

We've established book smart =/= common sense and I believed all that until I read that last sentence. Mothers and their children.

It'd be easier if he weren't.

And the thing is that I wasn't lacking in common sense or street smarts, either. That is probably a damned good thing, since I'd be dead if I weren't.

I think we should establish I don't lack common sense in the real world. true, I do retarded things on this site. It might have to do with the fact that I'm still an e-virgin. I've had a laptop for >maybe< two years.

    Oh please.
    Bad behaviour is bad behaviour.
I'll bet you know the difference.
You chose to be how you are here.
    Deal with that choice.

Alright, let me point this out to you, this site, and what happens on it? Happens in the real world. Yeah, I know, totally wild that something that you do online actually has consequences in reality.

Something that I've learned along the way....

Kids were the same when I was young as they are now (without the internet and text messaging though, I only had a beeper). So, what my parents told me was true. When they were kids they acted rebellious, when I was young I acted rebellious (though I hid it well other than being bitchy), and I will get my comeuppance when baby girl gets to be a teen.

    OH. MY.GOD.

The cycles continue, and I've now just frightened myself at the thought of a bitchy teen. Because if she is indeed like me. God help me.

I think I'm pretty chill for someone my age... I don't do drugs(why would I hurt my body and risk the law for a few hours of pleasure?) and I'm on pretty good terms with my parents. I might have the most vulgar mouth in most of my classes and 3/1758ths of the songs on my iPod were actually bought but I'm pretty ok with that

None of my kids were perfect. I'd be the first to do battle with the gods for any of them, but I was always very critical in assessing them... something I was very keen to keep hidden, of course.

But I was a parent in a very different era. Children were to be seen but never heard, and if they went out of line a public backhand was expected. There was more fear involved in parenting, which I think alienated me from most of my children. But, eh, at the end of the day if your adult children don't hate you at least a little, you've done something very wrong.

I learned, though, that the rebellious children aren't the problem. If they don't kill themselves-- and in those days, we worried about nuclear holocaust instead of AIDs-- they were the ones with drive. They'd end up somewhere, hopefully they'd be happy, and you could go back to having sex in the kitchen.

Those few of my kids who had no drive and never rebelled, they concerned me more in the end. I'll always be a mother, but there's a limit on how long I can be a parent.

Perhaps our dippy young outcast was correct in his assessment about some parents being too blind to see what is directly in front of their faces.

These disillusioned parents are factually wrong, as there were 435,436 births to teens aged 15 to 19 in 2006, and 6,396 for those aged 10 to 14, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

To be fair, I think that any parent of a ten-year old would be justified in being shocked when little Susie fifth grader comes home with a baby she delivered during recess.

Portia, 46 (Latina, upper middle class), discussed her shock when her then 15-year-old son said his girlfriend might be pregnant: "Because he was such a young teenager and I really didn’t think. And again, this is a really good, solid kid," she said. Since then, Portia has not discussed contraception with her now 16-year-old and doesn't plan to until he's off to college, because "he's just a good kid who got in over his head."
That's one of the most retarded things I ever heard.

The whole article is just filled with disturbingly stupid parents. I do think that was my favorite one, though.

Portia's son was in over his head, alright. Moron.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

    Seriously? Bad Ass Mother Fucker?

The kid has a maturity deficit - he really needs to get himself together before he tries to mingle with adults again.
