whats with the massive bulge in charlie browns pants?
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.

    Not enough Jägerbombs
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Junk yards are the classic source. The problem is that some parts don't age well unless packed in grease or something. I'm guessing somebody in this family is a serious gearhead, because otherwise they'd have passed the point of diminishing returns for this car. Still, quite an epic sighting!

This gets me thinking. It's sort of stupid how car ads these days often don't include a person/spokesperson in them for fear of alienating some demographic.
Somebody has Huey Whatsisface, but I actually do find him annoying.

I mean, plenty of ads include families and such, but it's really rare to see an ad that just has an attractive, well-dressed person getting into a car and just looking classy.
Generalism: hit the widest possible audience without striking any nerves.

What cracks me up is the tricks they play. I was watching this one SUV ad a while back that got played a lot duing last year's NBA playoffs. A cute but not smoking 30 year old woman was doing stuff in this SUV, and something seemed off to me. Then I noticed that compared to a single external metric she must have been really small--like 4'10" small. And it clicked: they used a tiny actress to make their big SUV look MASSIVE. These tricks are in just about everything, including all Tom Cruise movies (it won't do for the sex symbol to be dwarfed by every woman on the set.)

If they got Jon Hamm in a grey suit to do the same thing and get into a decent "luxury" car like that other ad you posted, plenty of dudes across the country would line up for said car.

Dunno why they don't do it. Given the money involved, I'm sure Madison Avernue has done market research suggesting that it ain't the best route.

Wow. I didn't know Nazism was a fear of American conservative Christians in the 1970s.

Looks way prettier (and more impressive) at night, FWIW.

This 3rd one seems more tilt-shift than the other two. Much more blurring around the edges. Therefore much more miniaturisation effect.

With the first two things just seem to be very crisp. Very sharp.

All 3 are quite fabulous though.

Thanks Tim, only the last one is Tilt Shift. It was also an assemblage of 4 images, and I missed a major seem. LOL.
I have to redo it better.

I am floored by the sharpness of the first one. I think it's the best image I have taken, ever.
I'mma gonna print it big and hang it in my shop.

I prefer the daylight one because you can see the curve of the earth and the great lake on the horizon.

Yes, you are an artistic genius, Bitter.

You know, that 3rd one looks so... "sharp" (or something) that it looks like CGI or something - seriously, it doesn't look quite real. Maybe it's the contrast between the sharp and the blurred, but you should put it in your portfolio and claim to be a CGI master.

There's probably a few million in it if you can sell that story to George Lucas.

I like the pictures , but the last one seems to have a very sharp line between the sharp and the blurred parts, and on the right it doesn't connect right!
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!

Yeh I think that's the seam he said he missed.

    I'm sure it is, Bukaroo.

That one, incidentally, Rettib, is Life (the game).

That is the purpose of tilt-shift. Somebody (Ziggy?) posted a few extreme ones back a few pages.
