We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
Apparently my browser was, or the website was when I checked it...as I ended up getting a page like this...
. . .
Andrea Fay Friedman, the voice actress who played the role of "Ellen" --the character depicted as having Down syndrome on the Valentine's Day episode of Family Guy, has responded to the criticism of sometime-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Of special significance, Friedman herself has Down syndrome. Palingates has Friedman's complete response:
My name is Andrea Fay Friedman. I was born with Down syndrome. I played the role of Ellen on the "Extra Large Medium" episode of Family Guy that was broadcast on Valentine's day. Although they gave me red hair on the show, I am really a blonde. I also wore a red wig for my role in " Smudge" but I was a blonde in "Life Goes On". I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line "I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska" was very funny. I think the word is "sarcasm".
In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life. My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes.
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun
I saw that article too. I was surprised to hear the actress herself had Downs. I'm not sure how I feel about her speaking out, whether the whole issue is something she understands or not (is that patronizing?). Is she being exploited? In any case, they should not have fingered Palin's family.

Wow, talk about blown cred! Why would you admit that to anybody?
Ding! Survey says #1 answer! She's a political Paris Hilton--a non-entity who thrives on publicity.
The irony is that Palin fans are too retarded to recognize hypocrisy. As long as she pushes certain buttons, they'll be happy. And the bigger problem from that situation was that the second Limbaugh used the same word, Palin defended him and said it made her laugh.
No she doesn't. She cashed out. She is completely inviable on the national stage. The attack ads and buper sticker write themselves. "Vote Governor Quitter!" "Two more years!" Her quitting the governorship was the single worst thing she could do professionally, outside of some sort of scandal. It is, however, the single best thing she could do financially. But, as well all know, she's just driven by her mission and her love of America, right?
I actually agree that this is inappropriate. The families of public figures are generally out of bounds. Like it our not, this has been our cultural standard for generations.
Off topic: I think she should have named him Analytical Geometry. That was so much more interesting than Trig. But I suppose the nicknames could suck.
See above response to Lewk. We do NOT generally go after politician's families. Even Billy Carter was cut a lot of slack. So I find this way out of line.
But I also find Family Guy to be a cheap rip off of the Simpsons. Totally derivative. They're cashing in on that though, so you can't blame the network.
Stop letting the forum nutball bait you into thread necromancy.
This was ten weeks dead before AR posted an old bit of news (that I posted elsewhere, when it was slightly less old).

Due to my sporadic attendance, I miss a lot of stuff. I rely on other to keep me up to date.
Besides, Sarah Palin is always fun. And Tina Fey is probably thankful for the greatest moment of her career.

She's not a viable national politician. She's a money making three ring circus.
I could have had class. I could have been a contender.
I could have been somebody. Instead of a bum

Well, maybe not. Fey is multi-talented, so getting pigeonholed for a simple impersonation may be kind of a bummer. But the fact remains that seldom in history has there been such a perfect comic nailing. Fey was a better Palin than Palin was. In figure skating terms it was like nailing the triple spin toe loop whatsis time after time. It was her greatest moment, a perfect storm. But yeah, I can see that might be kind of depressing. She's probably heard about little else in interviews since. 20 years from now, people will mention that has her greatest achievement (especially if she continues making crappy, formulaic movies like this last one).
This is a non-issue. Isn't it. I saw the creator/ producer or whatever of Family Guy on Bill Maher some time after the uproar. He came off as a dick. And Sarah's a fucking scum bag, so.... Whatever. It's a non issue.

That pretty much sums it up.
Though does he actually get "creator" status for Family Guy? I mean, it's such a blatant rip off of the Simpsons, does Groening get writing or co-creator credit?![]()

Even so, the first 7 seasons of Family guy (5 or 6 of which are actually funny) are available on DVD, just like the first 20 seasons of The Simpsons (10 or so of which are actually funny). So it's not impossible that he's watched both shows... though his comments about Family Guy do make it seem unlikely.

It's funny when Tear makes obvious jokes and gets responded to seriously.

They are quite similar, starting with the core of the show: a fat, obnoxious, insensitive and fairly stupid fat lower middle class white male. Various hijinx ensues. It's the Simpsons, with weaker satire. Heck, the jokes are the same.
Never said that. I don't watch serials on TV, I also tend not to watch sitcoms, and I loath reality TV. But I do watch TV now and then. The Family Guy is on incessantly, and I've watched several episodes. It is a Simpsons clone with a different accents and a couple f the characters switched around. It's almost plagiarism it's so blatant.
Now, back in the 90s I went through a few years where I watched the Simpsons semi-regularly. But I haven't watched it much in over a decade.
So, as one of the characters is similar (and the rest are vastly different), the shows are the same.
Alrighty, then.

How are the shows "vastly" different? Different animation styles?![]()
