Joe Lieberman introducing bill to strip suspected terrorists' citizenship

A day after suggesting that U.S. citizenship laws should be changed to strip American terrorists of their nationality, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) has introduced legislation to do just that. His bill amends existing law that revokes the citizenship of any American who joins a foreign military.

"I'm now putting together legislation [so that] any individual American citizen who is found to be involved in a foreign terrorist organization, as defined by the Department of State, would be deprived of their citizenship rights," Lieberman told reporters Tuesday. "If you have joined an enemy of the United States in attacking the United States to try to kill Americans I think you sacrifice your rights of citizenship."

Lieberman plans to move the legislation as a standalone measure, according to aides.

The proposal already has some support. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) agreed with Lieberman: "Americans should lose their citizenship rights "if they're designated an enemy combatant, yes." Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) tentatively offered his backing, telling AFP: "That sounds like something I'd support, but I'd have to look at the legislation."

It's not clear from the proposal when a person would be designated a terrorist for purposes of revoking their citizenship, but Lieberman also sided with Republicans who said that terror suspect Faisal Shahzad should not have been read his Miranda rights after his arrest. "If [authorities] make a judgment that this was a terrorist act, the person should be turned over to the military," he said.

A South Korean woman who earned a driver's license after 960 tries is ready to buy a car and get
    behind the wheel.

Yonhap news agency reported Thursday that 69-year-old Cha Sa-soon passed the driving part of the test last month on her 10th try. South Korea requires a written test first, and Cha took it nearly daily since April 2005 before passing last year.

Yonhap quoted her as saying she wanted to buy a small secondhand car to visit her son and daughter and for her business selling vegetables.

Repeated calls seeking comment from her went unanswered.

Officials at the drivers' license agency in Jeonju, 130 miles (210 kilometers) south of Seoul, were not available for comment.
I keep telling my monsters that perseverance makes anything possible!

I'm not entirely sure her neighbors would think that's as good a thing as I do, though.

Overheard whilst I was leaving the card store (remember everyone Mother's day is Sunday)...

Crazy Un-kept Older Man, walking towards me: *sighs* Damn she looks just like *incomprehensible gibberish* no shape to her at all, what a waste.

...I turn around to try and figure out what he's talking about and the only two people who he could've been looking at and talking about were two girls no older than 14...

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Yeah, but that doesn't burn my esophagus and risk bursting my stomach. It just kills me quicker, in the event of a high speed impact.

So, I turned in my resignation notice today. In a month I will be a stay at home mom.

I'm definitely happy, but its more of a WTF at the moment right now. I can't believe I'm actually going to do it. I've had some sort of job outside of the house since I was 16. Soon I'll have a 24/7 job!

Cat---don't worry, you'll love being stay-at-home-mommy. Be thankful you can do it, it's a luxury for many these days.

OK so the door bell rings and it's two uniformed men with all sorts of stuff on their belts and arm sleeves, they looked like cops. After my heart started beating again, and they said they were "canvassing the neighborhood to ask people about their smoke detectors...."

I thought WTF, two county fire fighters on duty going door-to-door with EDITH pamphlets?

Just watched Trick r Treat today. Movie studios blame piracy for lagging DVD sales when a movie like that goes straight to video with no fanfare and crap like the Halloween remakes and Saw 326 are released in theaters. Seriously, wtf.

Delta managed to not only forget to load a couple's dog on their flight, but then they managed to lose the dog. Best part is the $200 credit for a future Delta flight because they lost the dog

Delta's upped the coupon now to $600 after they started getting bad PR from this. Such a heartless company, they really don't get it.

Well, what else can they do? It's not like they can summon the dog over to the lost luggage department.

Offering a coupon you know isn't going to be used isn't showing you care for the damage you've done.

So, they should say sorry, offer nothing, and you'd be happy with that?

Like I already asked, "what else can they do?"

Well? Still waiting for an answer.

Refunding the horrible trip would be a start. If they want to cut a check, then they need to offer real compensation, not funny money.
Or perhaps returning his dog carrier? Since they haven't yet been totally clear on what actually happened. Offering up operational changes so that he knows this won't happen to anyone else would be nice.

They lost a a member of the family, you don't send someone a coupon after that.

Well, now that's reasonable (except for the operational changes), and I could get on board with that. Seems like a rare enough event that "operational changes" probably won't be able to do anything to actually address whatever caused this - so promising changes is just an empty promise that won't actually do anything. (Probably - maybe there really is something systemically wrong that would cause them to lose a dog, but that seems unlikely.)

I'd be terribly surprised if the guy didn't have to sign a waiver leaving Delta not liable for any loss or damage to the dog.

Delta is being beyond generous to refund $200. The rest is just ridiculous.

New dog. Not exactly a "member of the family."

Also, seems to me that there is a real possibility the dog was stolen by an airport employee. In Mexico.

The guy should make a video featuring a song that lampoons the airline.

I find the whole idea of checking your pet like luggage distasteful, anyway.

Just like the legal terms you sign that doesn't hold Delta liable when they steal the xbox or digital gear out of your luggage.

Its not a refund, its a credit towards future business with Delta

Which is why, if you're smart, you don't check anything valuable. That's what carry-on luggage is for.

Seriously, why *do* pet owners throw their pets in with the luggage? That's what kennels or house sitters are for. Treat your pet like luggage, and eventually, it's gonna suffer the same fate as luggage, and end up getting shipped to Bangladesh instead of Baltimore (or whatever).

You're not always allowed to take them as carry on (depends onthe size I guess?) and if you're moving you have to take it, I suppose. And I guess for some people leaving their animal behind for a few weeks is bad, too.

Its sad that the industry has gotten us to the point where we have to think "how can I make sure this airline doesn't rob me;" and we attack or ridicule those that were robbed.
