Hey wraithy, is it possible to expand the character set used in thread titles? I had an issue with posting a new thread - apparently including the "pound" symbol (£) in a thread title causes a 4-oh-4. This limits our options for mocking countries which use non-dollar currencies, and I think we can all agree that's sub-optimal.

This is actually a good idea - why not change the [img] button to use [shot] instead?

The shot tag, as its currently set shrinks and enlarges, so anything smaller than 640x480 would end up looking like shit.

    Oh, never mind then.

Of course, it might not be such a horrible thing to encourage people not to post shitty low-res pictures.

Which would mean no hilarious smilies from SA et al.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Basically, we have three options for how forum thread URLs are formatted. One is like it was at the other place "showthread.php?id=2498357". The other two options have an actual text string, which apparently makes things friendlier for search engines.

The problem is they didn't instruct the component that makes the SEO-friendly thread titles recognize currency symbols. It's annoying and sorta unexpected that vBulletin let it be like this.

I'm wondering if we should just go back to the default ones and ignore the SEO optimization...

Nah, fuck making big changes like that. I assumed that VB would use the standard non-Cyrillic alhpa-numeric character to %[hex code] translation that the rest of the world does. Since it doesn't, just... forget it.

I'd go with just changing it back - this is the third time somebody's broken things - but I'm a bit worried about breaking existing links if we do.

On [img]/[/shot], I suspect most people type out the tags anyways, so changing the default wouldn't make much of a difference, and there's also the issue OG pointed out.

There is no way to change how vBulletin changes the thread titles into links just for those characters? I don't think it would break any links in this instance as no prior links would have those other characters in them.

Unfortunately no, at least not without finding someone who can aggressively hack vB.

That sounds like fun. You want it to crash constantly, randomly display hardcore homo-erotica and periodically pop up cruel and mocking faux Windows error boxes, right? Because I think I might be able to help you out with that.

As long as the homo-porn is fairly rotated with straight porn, I think everyone would benefit from such improvements.

Sorry, but fairness and/or anything beneficial are not the kind of services I offer.

, are you even asking Wraith, or just posting whatever, because this is what I found in less than a few minutes of Google searching:

    http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread9379.html
    Edit: Also - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...-URLs-htaccess

...which makes it seem like its simply something to do with changing how the modrewrite rules in the .htaccess file on where-ever we're hosting this, since this thing is based on php/apache/mySQL. So it doesn't really seem like its "aggressively hacking vB" as it is "doing some programming in apache". I have no problem with a "this would be too hard or time consuming to program", but it would be nice not to just be told no without solid justification.

This isn't going to work. I think "I'm far too lazy for that" is just fine as a justification.

I'll do something about it this weekend. It shouldn't be too difficult. Nobody ever lets me disable a feature instead of fixing it

Dude, did you read any of what you found? It looks to me like a large pain in the ass, and while not quite the same thing as "aggressively hacking vB," fucking around with PHP and IIS or Apache isn't exactly trivial either, yous knows.

You can disable users instead of fixing them, though... that something, isn't it?

Could the PM character limit be higher than 5000

    Thanks

Just tried to, but for some reason the upload is telling me that I have the wrong filepath specified for the image file I'm trying to upload.

Rand or Wraith, can you try via AdminCP?

Were you using the "upload" button, rather than the "add"?

  23. #293
Yeah...you're right, I did it wrong. Forgot that the system is all backwards....

  24. #294
There are little green checks in some thread summaries and they aren't clickable.

IE: I want to go to the last page of a thread by clicking the last page number from the forum thread list, but it is covered by a green check. I have to click slightly on the top or bottom instead...

  25. #295
What browser are you using? Does this persist on a force-refresh?

If possible, could you also upload a screenshot so I know I'm investigating the right thing?

  26. #296
The thread icons don't do anything, I've never known them to do anything either though.

  27. #297
I think he might be talking about the topic/forum subscription green check icon...not sure though...
    . . .

  28. #298
Yeah, I'm a little confused about what he's talking about, hence the screenshot request. There're green checks on the forums list, but it seems like he was talking about seeing them on the threads list. I suspect it might be a 'feature' of his browser that's making the checks appear.

We might have to PM him a request for a screenshot since he has been active since you last asked him...

I'm not going to go begging for him to find work for me to do. I like not working.
