Hey! Thats my first post in the happy thread in its current incarnation!

In actual positivity, i have two interviews in london on monday and tuesday. One for a job and the other with a really smart looking recruitment agency
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.

Cut your hair and get a job you smelly bum

    Wait

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

We have a toad! Seems early, but he found our little piddly pond. Mostly it's a tub of water with plants, but still.

(or maybe it's a baby frog, I never could tell the difference...)

If it sneers a lot and has a silly accent, it's a frog.

    Aren't those toadies?

He's small, bumpy, and dry. Also don't hear any froggy ribbit sounds. I think he's a toad.

I'm no Zoologist, but in layman's terms, the closer the resemblance to Jabba the Hutt, the higher the likelihood of it being a toad.

If it starts to routinely jump out at you in the dark...it's a toad. lol

Considering where The Friend got hung up today, and the little bumps Easterners call "Mountains", we got to spend a lot of quality phone time today. Of course, we talked about absolutely everything and absolutely nothing at all, but it kept him awake. Then, this evening, Mommymunchkin showed up with a shit-load of groceries. I guess she thinks I'm starving to death!

The other incredibly awesome thing is that idiot with the 4-wheeler that used to live across the street from me got a ticket today for disturbing the peace, exhibition of acceleration, and generally being an ass-hole!

Death by stereo is coming to the Netherlands for two shows next month! I think we should try to open at least one of those shows for them.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!

    That's Gold!

Seriously its True, I'd have thought you'd have to go Through the Barricades back to the 80s to see them.

    I'll get my coat.

    Christ.

    ~

Was a good night. I won 80 squids on the horses.

Should explain. Spandau Ballet were playing at Sandown park, a racecourse, so there were five races on before the gig. I won. And again. And again. Couldn't go wrong tonight.

    ~

Gig was ok. But. They were not special. not duran duran. Now them I would pay serious dollarage to go see.

Out of like 12 songs I only recognised 2 - True - and Gold.

Gold is one of my absolute favourite 80's songs, but the only 3 songs I know of their's are the three I named: True, Gold and Through the Barricades

Even tho I didn't get to sleep until around 7:30 this morning, and got back up around 10, I have had a seriously productive day. I feel a lot better than I did yesterday. I got my apartment all ready for the inspection tomorrow, got a nice hot shower, went to the meat sale at the grocery store and now have enough meat to last me for a long time, and Mommymunchkin bought me a Subway sandwich for dinner so I won't have a bunch of dishes to do tonight!

My girlchild, who, incidentally, has wound up having a regular summer class that is all to herself - she was given a choice between going with another group or having private lessons - she did, of course, choose private. But she also got an invite to a special clinic in a couple of weeks.

It'll be a good summer for her.

In eight hours time + a drive home from Ipswich to Northampton, I'll be on holiday for a whole week.

The 11 hours days draw to a brief close, and all that awiats is France, cocktails, and swimming pools. A-woo.

    Oh, and hi!

I had the apartment inspection today. All went well! The maintenance dude will be here Monday afternoon to install my air-conditioner so I don't absolutely melt this summer. On top of that, I actually got about 4.5 hours sleep last night, so feeling a hella bunch better!

This is a rather lame and slightly long story.

My office shares a floor with all the patron computers, and a teaching lab. Teaching lab is walled off, with dual HD hanging plasma TVs and ceiling mounted speakers. Shortly after I got my office, but before furniture was ordered for the lab, I went on vacation for a week.
At the same time my library had been going through a renovation process. We are moving the entire collection around, hundreds of thousands of books are being RFID tagged (security), and moved to new locations. During this process we ended up with a bastard collection; Government Documents. We don't want government documents, but we just can't throw them out. There is an insane amount of red tape one must follow before destroying government published information. The process takes several weeks, for each item, before we know if we have to keep it, send it to a new location, or if we can destroy it. Because of this the collection couldn't be moved into a new spot because we didn't know how much room it was going to require.

Not everyone was happy that someone in my position got his own office. This was discovered when I came back from vacation and the librarian who was in charge of the government collection had her volunteers box it all up and stack them in the new computer lab. The perfect storm of "fuck Jason over" allowed this to happen. She is in drop, meaning she was set to retire this year, her transfer out of my branch was approved and she transferred 2 days before I returned, and she had no further performance reviews at my location. Seems the immediate opening of several rows of prime shelving confused a few of the other senior librarians about the progress of the renovation, so they proceeded to order the shelving removed so they could keep pace with the redesign.

So I returned from vacation to a computer lab full of 300+ boxes of government documents that no longer had a librarian in charge of them, and no home shelves anymore. Since they were on my floor, and out of everyone else's way, they became my problem. A crash course in government document processing took place over the next several weeks.

A few pictures of the lab as I worked through it.

The boxes were numbered, but the items inside were not in order. I had to catalog each box individually, check to make sure the materials were up to date, email the contents out to other libraries in a sort of freecycle type curb alert, wait, then request premission to destroy what wasn't claimed and deemed by the higher ups as a waste of space. What I was instructed to keep I had to shelve. My paygrade doesn't allow me to control or bring in volunteers, so this was mainly my own responsiblity, but a few of the other librarians allowed me to borrow their volunteers when they could spare them.

Finally for the reason this in the happy thread. After several months of unboxing, listing, and waiting...the room is clear!
The librarian who did this to me died late last month. These last few days I've discovered I'm not the only person who didn't shed a tear.

I hope it is the clearing that makes you happy and not a woman's death. At least she had a chance to retire before dying.

On the phone with The Friend! He is all happy. He is getting paid damned good wages to just hang out, on call kinda, for the day! When he is in a good mood, he is very funny and makes me laugh!
