O.K. Take that bitch...I mean Brits
I am kinda worried about how much U.S. pension money is tied up in BP though.

The race issue has been mentioned in media. I saw some guy on msnbc talking about the expected public demeanor of blacks in politics or leadership positions (of course he'd written a book on subtleties of The Angry Black Man or something like that). There's some truth to it, just like women in politics who cry or "get emotional" are dismissed.
It's a double standard that's not hard to see. White men in power can get "hysterical" in the senate (see Boehnner--HELL NO YOU CAN'T!!) or use profanities, and it's called passion or something positive.

Did he who made the lamb make thee?
It's not like it's the first time OG implied that anyone who disagrees with Obama (pbuh) is a racist.![]()
Hope is the denial of reality
My point was....the double standard. Even though Obama didn't even say the boot on the neck comment, he got flak for it. He did say "kick ass", but nobody would bat an eyelash if Bush (or McCain or Schwartzenegger) had said that. I also posted the op-ed from the segment that WANTS the President to show some emotion, either anger or yelling, but then he'd be criticized for not being Presidential.
Anywho....plenty of surrogates can be angry and holler and cuss. At this point the Gulf coast just wants this disaster to be treated as a full-blown catastrophe and see some action.
(My ex's brother's shop went from $18,000/day in merchandise like floaties and boogie boards, to less than $8,000/day. Charter boats, fishermen, hoteliers and all ancillary tourist services are hurting baaad.)
I criticized the "boot on throat" comment right until it became clear Obama didn't say it, and Obama condemned it.
HOLY SHIT !!!
Up to 40,000 barrels a day was coming from BP well
That's barrels folks not gallons.

Hope is the denial of reality
Not at all. simply more evidence that your idea of this being "un-Presidential" is hollow, and waiting for you admit you have a very selective memory of history, or you're using this as a weak front to attack Obama as inappropriate.
Their siphon they were bragging about was only catching about 3,000 barrels a day
Someone needs to make a timeline of claims by BP about the oil flow. For shits and giggles.
How about neither?![]()

Now that's just not fair....wait, are you trolling again?
I get teed off when Disaster Planning is found to be an after-thought, an aside, or lip service. I also get teed off when people say it's being a paranoid chicken little when discussing potential things BEFORE they happen. Ya know, like sensible regulations that are monitored and assessed. Or holding agencies to their proposed mission statements.
Same damn thing happened with Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. And the mortgage and financial industries. The pattern is disturbing.
We've been posting links to better (and available) technologies for weeks now, but it's still the same 50 year old "boom and shovel" reaction. Well, it's too little and too late. That's not a mentality, that's just fact.

It is a mentality and an under-accepted fact. Judicious mediation must be swift because everybody moves on to more immediate problems so swiftley that old issues die. Exxon got their $5 billion sentence reduce to millions because they delayed rulings until the immediacy was gone.

Multi-tasking. It's not your father's Chevrolet.
It's a paradox, innit? If we expect Bp to pay for all this damage to environment and economy, then we don't want them to go bankrupt. It's counter-intuitive to say "Buy Bp stock, frequent their independent gas stations, keep using their asphalt and Arco Aluminum products....increase their market value so we can bill them for the next 20 years!"
The whole Gulf Coast (+ Alaska) faces the same Oil Paradox. They need oil drilling for their energy-related economy, but not if it kills their environment-related tourist economy.

Who's the tail and who's the dog, and what's the nerve center doing the wagging?
Growing increasingly incredulous, and yes---angry. (I can do that, since the media doesn't follow angry people, just how Obama emotes or not...)
Weeks ago, this whole operation should have been moved to red alert. Top priority. Calling naval operations to move in, assuming it would take time to position fleets and personnel. Just in case.
But nooo, we are too busy policing international waters, or hunting down "terrorists". Or critiquing Obama's reaction, as seen in video bytes.
Bullshit. It's all bullshit. Bp is just playing to the whole BS, stringing our government along, and they fall or it.

What do you expect the Navy to do about it???? That's what's so fucking AMAZING about this thing. NOBODY CAN STOP IT! Holy fucking shit. Yeah, its true. All the king's horses and men, and the lady's in waiting, the harlots and the concubines, not the toothless serfs, the stone masons or the preachy carpenters come fishers of men; nobody can fucking plug this fucking leak. The best they've done so far is hide it with dispersal chemicals and lie about how bad it is. I just never imagined.
The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)
Actions speak louder than words. Not that this should surprise anyone.
and you're not even here to backtrack on this oneBP has hired a risk-management company who advertises that a main benefit of its services is "reducing our clients' loss dollar pay-outs"![]()

More BP doublespeak awesomeness
When ABC’s Jake Tapper mentioned this to Admiral Thad Allen, the White House’s “man in charge” of the oil spill crisis, Allen said he would immediately order “uninhibited access” to all aspect of the cleanup efforts, a promise which BP said it would abide by. Only a few days later, though, ABC reporter Matt Gutman reported being “hassled” by a BP-hired security guard while doing a report from Grand Isle Beach. Now, a local New Orleans television station is reporting the same sort of harrassment and it’s become clear that Allen’s promise of “uninhibited access” isn’t exactly being honored by BP and it’s contractors:
Our Navy is better at logistics, command and control, and using WAR strategy against an enemy invader. The oil industry has the science and technology to "stop the thing", but until they do.... containment is all we have. Booms and sham-wows won't work. Busing in untrained workers isn't working either. Dispersants add a chemical danger, and just hide the short term magnitude.
Maybe I have too much faith in the Navy, but I do think they'd have looked forward several steps, had skimmers and tankers ON HAND and waiting to mobilize, a long time ago. Instead of hearing bp say it will take another week or month to get xyz in proximity. They've underestimated the potential for catastrophe, and overestimated their abilities and capacities. Navy would have the opposite mentality---all hands on deck, multi-tasking, worst case scenario.
booms aren't working because BP doesn't know how to use them (SHOCK! They aren't cleanup experts!). BP has installed them in a fence type fashion, when they are meant to be used as funnels with drop bucket points. But that would mean that the oil would be in "come take pictures of me" marked points for the media.
The booming practice BP is using only works for small islands in a strong current.
and its not like there aren't people out there who don't have more experience working at 5,000+ feet and deeper. I know BP shot down the offered help from the group that was hired to inspect, raid, and film the Titanic.
That's why bp shouldn't have a damn thing to do with containment or clean-up. They should just write checks as their best tool for that.![]()
