Id love to see yellow cards for too much playacting. How is it any different from when players crowd the referee demanding that cards be given or whatever? Or fines maybe. It wont happen because football is pretty conservative, but i think a sin-bin system would work extremely well in football. Better even than it does in rugby.

Also i would like to see football referees have the same respect given to them as rugby referees. That was in the sport from the start, as i understand it, as a rugby referee can give sin bins or even red cards to any player for questioning his decisions or arguing with him or even for swearing (not even at him). Though its used more in the spirit than to the letter, the point is that they can. In modern rugby, you pretty much just dont talk to the referee. If you have a problem, you tell your captain, and he asks to speak to the referee and tells him the problem.

As for the greek guy: the nigerian guy was going to get a red card. He kicked you when the ball was out of play. Man the fuck up. Dont flop to the floor like you were superman and he kicked oy in the balls with a kryptonite boot.
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.

I'd also like to see yellow cards for play acting, i also want to see the 4th official making sure the coaches/managers act accordingly. Maradonna (Scum!) is a prime example, as soon as a Arggie player gets tackled he's the first one to make a gesture towards the ref asking him to book the opposite player who made the initial foul.

Sin-bin system would rock in football i think, especially when you consider how well some teams play when they are under the kosh with 10 men. It would be worth FIFA and the FA's giving it a trial to see if it combats the minor incident such as diving or players crowding the ref. As you say you don't get this in Rugby and when you think about how physical the game is in contrast to Football i am quite surprised the refs get a easier ride in Rugby.

The thing si, some refs fall for overacting. When they see a player flopping on the field they are more likely to award cards then when the player just gets up. Video ref, only way to be sure and only way to properly punish divers (red) and overacting (yellow).

Sin bin would be sweet too.

Someone might be able to correct me on this, but FIFA have a thing where they can remove red cards after the match if its found that the incident wasnt correctly seen by the referee right? Or the adding of a card for a foul off the ball not seen by the officials.

So why dont they have the same thing for diving, overacting, hassling the referee etc?

Yep - red cards can be appealed post-match if the team feels it was unwarranted. They can be rescinded.

Down to 10 men with 2 others on yellows ......

I guess England doesn't need to feel so bad about only managing a draw with the US after all.

Im watching it right now with my G/fs german housemate who said she watched some german commentary last week and the commentators were essentially saying that germany pretty much had the whole competition in the bag.

    Oops

This is why i love football and the WC when it's on. Heck look at the upsets we get during the FA Cup.

  14. #254
Commentary is that the refereeing is abysmal. The Spanish ref gave 11 reds in La Liga last season.

Doesn't sound like Germany deserved the red.

    ~

Oh and the scorer, Jovanovich, is set to join Liverpool next season.

.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Germany miss a penalty.

    ~

    EDIT: result 0 - 1.

    What an unpredictable world cup.

    ~

USA vs Slovenia kicks off in 30 mins. Need a draw or for USA to win this to keep Group C even and give Ingerlund a better chance.

    C'MON YOU YANKS!

Germany loses because of the send off of one Pole and a missed penalty by another. Payback.

Half time Slovenia 2 - 0 USA. The fuck guys.

Apparently Slovenia is better than the US and England.

    What does this tell us?

We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.

  19. #259
That Slovenia have trained well, England underperform, and the USA doesn't give a shit about li'l soccer tournament in Africa.

Anyway. You guys came out totally fighting at the start of the 2nd half and have clawed back a goal, 2-1. C'MON.

    2-1 now.

I do hope USA pull it level and both teams only get 1 point. If we beat Algeria tonight then life will be a lot easier as we'll have a clear lead over the rest of the table.
All those moments lost in time... like tears in the rain

    FUCKING YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS !!

    USA Score 2-2!!

    WOOOHOOOOO.

Nice finishing touch - well controlled on the bounce.

10 mins to go. No one score please.

    ~

US scores but ref disallows it, bizarrely. No reason to disallow that.

    5 mins to go

    *bites nails*

    The US got robbed. Fuckers.
    The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)

  25. #265
Aye. You were robbed. Some rubbish refereeing in quite a few matches so far.

I wonder if anyone's keeping track of unusual betting patterns. I doubt it's very hard to bribe a referee, especially one who usually works in third world countries.

Bingo! Slovenia play cohesively. US was jobbed, though.

BTW, the Cup is doing well here in ratings. Almost every lab has it streaming, and people are talking about it in the halls. Unprecedented experience for me.
