The weather was all cold and drizzly and cloudy and I basically felt like shit all day! Then, to top it all off, those fire sirens I heard about 3:30PM were heading right up the street...to a friend's house. It's still standing but I have no idea what the internal damage might be. And Julia soo loved that little house!

I have to admit, I didn't follow this thread so far, but now I have to get something of my chest.

Maybe you know that too, I have the feeling of being down, melancholic, with no reason to be sad. Quite the opposite, I am successful in what I do. But it seams my desire always catches up with my success. This goes especially with women. Once I thought when I have a nice girl that holds me in my arms when I get home I will be the happiest man. But I got that years ago. But this stupid evolution has programmed us man to try to spread our genes. To take the chances we get.
And I feel somehow that it is not because it isn't the right person I'm with. Look at the stars like Tiger Woods, even if you get the hottest girls, your desire will just grow with your success.

A well at least these kind of feelings don't last too long, hopefully it doesn't this time.

Maybe you're just not a 1 woman type of guy and are putting unrealistic expectations on yourself.
I'm not suggesting you play around on your partner, rather that maybe you are not the type of guy that should have a partner - at least not one in the strictest monogamous sense.

Well I should think there would be no destroying if you are honest with your partner from the beginning about monogamy not necessarily being your thing - I guess the next issue would be if you're ok with your partner being just as open.

I know a married couple that have a long term relationship, they have two sons (one in HS one in college) and are very successful in pretty much every way. The husband has had countless women during their marriage, and the wife is ok with it so long as he doesn't bring them home or talk about them. I don't know if the wife has ever slept with anyone other than her husband, she certainly could if she chose as she is a gorgeous woman but I've seen or heard nothing to suggest she is anything but faithful.

This seems really odd to me but for them it works.

Oh yes, it certainly isn't common and I wouldn't expect it to be so however it illustrates that not all relationships are Mum + Dad + 2.1 kids. Given the divorce rates in most countries it is hard to know what is the best approach.

There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to relationships.

Met-Ed called and asked us to conserve electricity during this 2nd heat wave. It's been 96-98 degrees for a few days and they recommend turning off the A/C or setting thermostat to 80 degrees. I have a feeling we'll have more rolling brown-outs.

Lady Antebellum is playing at the outdoor theatre in the town next to mine...and because of the wind, the bass is carrying all the way here. It's fucking annoying as hell. Usually if the wind carries sound from there, it's faint. Right now it sounds like someone has their car stereo on outside my window.

I had conditionals already twice this year, and I am very sure that this is a 2nd conditional, which describes a future event with low possibility (if you would run for president, you would use 1st conditional.
Normally the 2nd conditional is If + past simple + would + infinitive (without to). Of course one would add subject, objects ect. in it.
Following this rule it would be, 'If I was' but there seems to be an exception with the verb 'to be' (which is probably the most irregular verb in English) so you use If I were (which is actually not the 1st person past simple)

Well I speak Swiss German, but for formal use and for writing we use standard German.
Gramatical cases are though in German. It's something even people that live here for longer do wrong.
I <-> Ich (Substantive case)
I go = Ich gehe.
Me <-> Mich (Accusative case)
Kiss me = Küss mich
Me <-> Mir (Dativ case)
Help me = Hilf mir
My <-> Mein (Genitive case)
Oh my god = Oh mein Gott
Mine <-> Meins (Genitve case)
This is mine <-> Das ist meins.

Now it depends on the sentence which one you use, mostly on the verb. Unlike English it does not depend on the position.

I am the person on that photo = Ich bin die Person auf dem Foto
The person on the photo is me. = Die Person auf dem Foto bin ich.

I think the reason for that is, that in the case of English, the subject is always in front of the verb, and because of that, in the second sentence 'The person' is the subject, while in German 'ich' is the subject no matter where it is.

About your example:
Dieses Buch gehört mir. = This book belongs to me.
Das ist mein Buch. = This is my book.
Das Buch ist meins. = The Buch is mine. (I would rather write, Dieses Buch ist meins = This book is mine, but this is only preference)
geben Sie mir das Buch. = Give (you) me the book (again you could use dieses/this)

Also you have to know another thing that makes German as complicated as it is: Genders. For everything I just told there is a male, female and neutral version

Urgh, spent most of my weekend trying to clear up 2 weeks worth of emails, sheesh. Then emails only going back to 16 July (when I 100% archived my account). Down to 28 unread emails (from nearly 350) which is 26 'priority' and 2 'low priority'. Most of the priority ones have actually been read but then re-marked as unread so that I go back to them tomorrow once I can deal with them - eg pay enquiries etc

Got to get better at administration but getting there. I'm liking the new "Send and Archive" button I've put as the default from Google Labs. Many unarchived emails were ones I'd responded to but never thought to archive, then I'm trying to re-sift through them figuring out if any are important or not. From now on I'll try to archive any emails I don't need. Only archived my first email (after 5 years using Gmail) 2 months ago.

Went to bed at 1am after watching a TV show Amanda had on about young female American adults going missing, typically raped and murdered. Got woken up by a phone-call at 2:30am.

Was a colleague, one of my manager's (D) who lives with another one (M). D was in tears, her and M had gone out and M had been chatting with a guy and then she just disappeared. Apparently unlike her, but M also had their keys so D couldn't get into their home. D had tried calling M but couldn't get an answer and now her phone was going flat so she told me all this but then her phone went out. M was missing, D locked out and in tears with no phone now its flat. Tried calling M repeatedly but could get no answer. D also said something before her phone died about being concerned a guy had been following her, said she was worried she "looks like a prostitute" now with what she was wearing, alone, on the streets.

Amanda (also woken up by the call) and I went driving looking for them both. At the least if we could find D we could get her out of the cold and safe, but maybe also find M if she was in trouble. We'd been to their house once before a month ago but when very drunk, but it was in a part of town I knew so had a vague idea where it was and D has a very distinctive bright yellow car, if we could find that we could find her and get her warm at least. Although they're both colleagues so we've got everyone's addresses on file, they've both moved into that property together and neither had updated their records.

2 hours of driving up and down side-streets later at half-four in the morning got a text from D to say she was OK. Called her back, apparently M had just come home then at half-four and unlocked the door, D was freezing and furious with M, I'm less than happy too. As it happens we'd driven up and down the side-streets either side of hers but missed the junction for hers in the dark, was in the right part of town.

Now 7am, unable to get back to sleep and just had 1 hour's sleep this night. Got a very long day ahead of me too, Monday's are one of my companies (and hence used to be my) quietest day of the week, used to take them off generally, but now they're my busiest with a ton of admin including payroll which is a real headache at the best of times.

It's fucking 5:30AM and I am wide awake! Came home last night after watching the Rockies game at the LLS, fell asleep for about 4 hours, woke up about midnight and... Of course, my toe hurts too! I stubbed my little toe on the door Tuesday night and broke the fucking thing! I stayed home for 2 days nursing the poor little thing, and then ventured out into the big, bad world again on Saturday for a while. Of course, some fucking idiot just had to step on my foot at the bar, making it worse! Why can't men keep their big clod-hoppers on the floor instead of stepping on me?
