To commit to a 24/7 you either have to be really, really well-adjusted, or really, really fucked up, and with one teenage girl and several older men I'd be guessing the latter even without criminal charges
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
Is it me or didn't Cher change clothes for the last 15 years?

Doesn't say from what age though. It does say they changed their sick behaviour towards her at the age of 18 at the top of the article though.

The makers of high fructose corn syrup want to sweeten up its image with a new name: corn sugar.
The bid to rename the sweetener by the Corn Refiners Association comes as Americans' concerns about health and obesity have sent consumption of high fructose corn syrup, used in soft drinks but also in bread, cereal and other foods, to a 20-year low.
The group plans to apply Tuesday to the Food and Drug Administration to get "corn sugar" approved as an alternative name for food labels.
Approval could take two years, but that's not stopping the industry from using the term now in advertising. There's a new online marketing campaign at www.cornsugar.com and on television. Two new commercials try to alleviate shopper confusion, showing people who say they now understand that "whether it's corn sugar or cane sugar, your body can't tell the difference. Sugar is sugar."
Renaming products has succeeded before. For example, low eurcic acid rapeseed oil became much more popular after becoming "canola oil" in 1988. Prunes tried to shed a stodgy image by becoming "dried plums" in 2000.
The new name would help people understand the sweetener, said Audrae Erickson, president of the Washington-based group.
"It has been highly disparaged and highly misunderstood," she said. She declined to say how much the campaign costs.
Some scientists have linked consumption of full-calorie soda - the vast majority of which is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup - to obesity.
But sugar and high fructose corn syrup are nutritionally the same, and there's no evidence that the sweetener is any worse for the body than sugar, said Michael Jacobson, executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest. The bottom line is people should consume less of all sugars, Jacobson said.
"Soda pop sweetened with sugar is every bit as conducive to obesity as soda pop sweetened with high fructose corn syrup," he said.
The American Medical Association says there's not enough evidence yet to restrict the use of high fructose corn syrup, although it wants more research.
Still, Americans increasingly are blaming high fructose corn syrup and avoiding it. First lady Michelle Obama has said she doesn't want her daughters eating it.
Parents such as Joan Leib scour ingredient labels and won't buy anything with it. The mother of two in Somerville, Mass., has been avoiding the sweetener for about a year to reduce sweeteners in her family's diet.
"I found it in things that you would never think needed it, or should have it," said Leib, 36. "I found it in jars of pickles, in English muffins and bread. Why do we need extra sweeteners?"
Many companies are responding by removing it from their products. Last month, Sara Lee switched to sugar in two of its breads. Gatorade, Snapple and Hunt's Ketchup very publicly switched to sugar in the past two years.
The average American ate 35.7 pounds of high fructose corn syrup last year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That's down 21 percent from 45.4 pounds 10 years before.
Cane and beet sugar, meanwhile, have hovered around 44 pounds per person per year since the mid-1980s, after falling rapidly in the 1970s when high fructose corn syrup - a cheaper alternative to sugar - gained favor with soft drink makers.
With sales falling in the U.S., the industry is growing in emerging markets like Mexico and revenue has been steady at $3 billion to $4 billion a year, said Credit Suisse senior analyst Robert Moskow. There are five manufacturers in the U.S.: Archer Daniels Midland Inc., Corn Products International, Cargill, Roquette America, and Tate & Lyle.
Corn refiners say their new name better describes the sweetener.
"The name 'corn sugar' more accurately reflects the source of the food (corn), identifies the basic nature of the food (a sugar), and discloses the food's function (a sweetener)," the petition said.
Will shoppers swallow the new name?
The public is skeptical, so the move will be met with criticism, said Tim Calkins, a marketing professor at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
"This isn't all that much different from any of the negative brands trying to embrace new brand names," he said, adding the change is similar to what ValuJet - whose name was tarnished by a deadly crash in 1996 - did when it bought AirTran's fleet and took on its name.
"They're not saying this is a healthy vitamin, or health product," he said. "They're just trying to move away from the negative associations."
The problem, of course, is really more that it is added to everything to improve the taste of the overprocessed junk on the shelves.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
If people are concerned about the overly large influence of unions, the same should certainly apply to the insanity that is the US corn industry lobby, I mean ffs

Today I had a training for mediation. The kind of thing where you get an actor playing a customer and you deal with the situation that presents itself as good as you can. The 4th case hadn't been distributed, but I was like 'well I can dish out criticism, so I will take this one'. Then I found out why it hadn't been distributed. My case was about a guy whose unemployment benefit had been denied because he was fired from his job after publishing an article promoting the legalization of paedophilia online.
I struggled my way through it, but it was very very hard. During the evaluation I realised that for all my claims of professionality I did not suggest him any options that might be better for him and I used the weapon of putting my offer in mediation as an ultimatum. Something I am certain I wouldn't have done if the subject had been less controversial .

Poor kitties and doggies.A neighbor's complaints of a foul odor coming from a house next door led police to more than 100 cats and dogs living in filth, the Cherokee County Marshal’s office confirmed.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Regan was the only reporter at the scene as workers in biohazard suits, respirators and a search warrant in hand went inside the home.
“In all my years, it’s the worst I have ever seen,” Chief Marshal Ray Waters said.
In addition to the living animals, authorities discovered the carcasses of 23 cats and kittens and a dog. Many of the dead animals were in advance stages of decomposition.
The home is located on Sugar Mill Lane in a rural, picturesque Cherokee County neighborhood full of large upscale homes surrounded by pastureland.
Amid rooms of garbage, filth and mounds of animal feces, authorities rescued 113 cats and kittens, and 14 dogs. Authorities told Regan that many of the animals showed signs of extreme neglect and dehydration.
A local animal shelter assisted the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office.
The homeowner, identified as Shari Cahill, is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. Veterinarians are in the process of treating the rescued animals.

Viewers who thought “Bridezillas” wasn’t quite extreme enough and longed for the old competitive plastic surgery days of “The Swan” finally get some satisfaction in the form of a new dream-wedding show called "Bridalplasty."
The Hollywood Reporter unveiled all the details of the upcoming E! series Thursday morning.
In short, a group of brides-to-be will battle it out in a variety of wedding day-themed challenges for the right to win a procedure from their respective plastic-surgery wish list. Week by week the losers are shown the door until, in true “Highlander” fashion, only one remains. That lucky gal gets a chance to surprise (or possibly horrify) her groom at the altar.
“Viewers will witness his emotional and possibly shocked reaction as they stand at the altar and he lifts her veil to see her for the first time following her extreme plastic surgery,” an E! representative said.

How the fuck does someone this stupid manage to tie their own shoes?Canada's federal police force is considering whether to charge a 16-year-old boy who put photos onto Facebook of a young girl being gang raped at a party.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Inspector Derren Lench said Friday that a 16-year-old girl was drugged and raped by several teenagers and adults at a rave party last weekend in a rural area east of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Lench says a 16-year-old boy was arrested for taking photos of the rape and posting them on the popular networking site. The boy has since been released, but Lench says he could be charged with distributing child pornography.
Lench says those and other photos have since been widely circulated on the Internet even though they have been taken down from Facebook.

KFC pays college women for ad space on buns
By Bruce Horovitz, USA TODAY
KFC wants folks to watch its backside.
Or, more precisely, the backsides of female college students it's recruiting to promote its hot new bunless Double Down sandwiches.
Women on college campuses are being paid $500 each to hand out coupons while wearing fitted sweatpants with "Double Down" in large letters across their rear ends.
The promo comes as KFC is in the doldrums domestically. The world's largest chicken chain's U.S. same-store sales fell 7% in the second quarter. Nearly all its growth now is in international expansion.
Last week, the chain confessed that more than six in 10 Americans ages 18 to 25 — the chain's key demographic — couldn't identify who Colonel Sanders was in the KFC logo.
Now, it's turning to cute women parading around campus with "Double Down" emblazoned across their fannies.
The nation's largest women's group doesn't like it one bit. "It's so obnoxious to once again be using women's bodies to sell fundamentally unhealthy products," says Terry O'Neill, president of the National Organization for Women. What's more, she says, KFC has forgotten something important: Women make more than half the decisions about what to eat for dinner.
But KFC marketing chief John Cywinski says it's an effective way to catch the attention of young men — KFC's key customers and the biggest fans of Double Down.
As of Tuesday afternoon, KFC had received no complaints about the campaign, KFC spokesman Rick Maynard says. "We've taken a page out of the book of some apparel companies and sororities who have promoted in this way for years," Maynard says.
The program began last week at Spalding University in downtown Louisville. The chain plans to expand it to at least three more campuses. The additional schools and the women there will be picked via a Facebook promotion.
The stunt hasn't reached Colorado State University — and senior public relations major Candace Carlucci hopes it never does. "It may be funny, but it's also inappropriate and degrading," she says. "There must be another way for KFC to get its message out."
Brand guru Jonathan Salem Baskin says there's nothing "inherently wrong" with using women to attract guys, but in this case, "It's irrelevant to the product." KFC would do better, he says, to follow the McDonald's model: "Clean up your stores, fix the menu and please people with the food you make."
One point of confusion, he jokes: "I guess the buns do come with KFC's sandwich."
The WTF comes more from the fact that college kids don't know what KFC stands for, and who Colonel Sanders is. The whole college promotion thing is old hat and very common across campuses. Find some of the old stories for how BK advertised the King on college grounds
The doubledown is amazingly delicious.
Isn't that even more reason to do this? What's more, she says, KFC has forgotten something important: Women make more than half the decisions about what to eat for dinner.![]()

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...Jobcentre.htmlTattooed woman 'told to put bag over head by Jobcentre'
A woman with 30 tattoos claims she was told to ''put a bag over her head'' when she went for a job interview.
Hayley O'Neil, 23, - who also has 20 body piercings - says was also advised to ''stand behind a wall'' when she asked a job centre official what post she could apply for.
She eventually left the Job Centre Plus centre in Blackburn Lancs in tears without any interviews lined up after the advisor concluded: ''Who would hire you looking like that?''
Miss O'Neil, who got her first tattoo from her mother as an 18th birthday present said: ''I just felt so humiliated. I couldn't believe what this guy was saying. ''I said I could take the piercings out but they look a lot worse when they are out."
"The guy said: 'on first impressions do you think anyone would hire you?' He said: 'look at it this way if you were to stand behind a wall - or put a paper bag over your face do you think you would have a better chance?'
"He then backtracked and tried to say that he was sorry and hoped I wasn't offended but I was.
"He talked to me as though I was just going through a phase in my life, but this is my lifestyle choice, and this is who I am."
However a spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions denied any inappropriate remarks had been made during the interview, adding "Job Centre Plus offers standard job hunting tips which include dressing appropriately when going for an interview or visiting a potential employer."
Telling her that it may harm her chances of getting a job is one thing, but saying it like this is way out of line
Besides, there are plenty of jobs where looks don't matter (call center?). Shouldn't their job be helping her getting a job instead of insulting her?
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
I did not see it as insulting, but open and brutally honest.
The lady looks like shit, and she even admitted she looks like bigger shit with empty holes all over her face. She wanted to be unique, now she gets to deal with it. She should deal with the consequences of her decision. First impressions are important, no matter what the job. She would be a distraction to both the customers and the other staff.
The article wants to focus on the tats, while the main problem was the piercings, but tats can be just as bad some times.

Saying it direct and honest is okay, but saying 'put a bag over your head and stand behind a wall' isn't. And there's still a bunch of jobs you can do. Nobody sees you over the phone.. And maybe it's different in the USA, but visible tattoos or piercings aren't that uncommon in a lot of jobs, even when dealing with customers.
The picture is wrong by the way, long sleeved shirts make the arms okay for jobs.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
I honestly think the article is paraphrasing the interaction. I don't see how a conversation would start out with "put a bag over your head." She obviously doesn't understand what she has done to her life, so she may have very well missed the more subtle suggestions.
Are these jobs that require a 3rd party to set up interviews for you? and still, even if you're faceless to the customer, you're still interacting with other staff, and a person like this is likely to become a distraction. And there's still a bunch of jobs you can do. Nobody sees you over the phone.. And maybe it's different in the USA, but visible tattoos or piercings aren't that uncommon in a lot of jobs, even when dealing with customers.
Again, all depends on the job and location. I'm sure as hell not going to wear long sleeved shirts year round. You can forget any place with a set uniform as well. The picture is wrong by the way, long sleeved shirts make the arms okay for jobs.
(Picture was a joke btw).
Yeah, I know, but I was just reminded of those long sleeve tattoos that stop right where your shirt would start.
That said, maybe places where you live are less open towards this, I think generally speaking tattoos and piercings in visible places aren't that much a problem at most places here. I've seen train conductors with 'Fuck Off' on their knuckles. Of course, you probably won't get a bank reception job, though a friend of mine with a mohawk did work in an elderly house without problems, and in warehouses biker-type guys with tattoos everywhere aren't uncommon either. Plenty of jobs where you don't work with customers (like warehouse jobs) get people from those job centers, and generally speaking the employers (over here) don't care much what you look like as long as you do the job. And becoming a distraction to other employees.. please. First of all, I'm sure that would wear off after a day or so, and second.. is that also a reason not to hire very attractive people, or disabled people?

Owner of Segway Company Dies in Segway Accident
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/09/segway-death/The owner of Segway died on Sunday riding one of his company’s electric scooters off a cliff and into a river. The 62-year-old millionaire Jimi Heselden crashed into the River Wharfe in Northern England while inspecting his North Yorkshire estate, according to multiple reports. Heselden was riding a rugged-country version of the Segway, which was also recovered at the scene, according to the Telegraph. Unveiled in 2001, the Segway was invented by Dean Kamen, who dreamed of launching a transportation revolution. The scooter contains five gyroscopes linked to a set of computers to monitor a rider’s center of gravity. Heselden, chairman of Hesco Bastian and a former miner who earned millions from defense contracts, purchased the Segway company in early 2010.

Wizards of the Coast prints a line of Magic: the Gathering books that help tie the storyline of the major cards together. I've got about 30 of these books, usually purchased from Barnes and Noble for list price, $6-$9.
I'm trying to improve my credit rating and make myself more appealing to bank loans, and that means paying off my last credit card. To do that I'm selling everything I've stored and boxed up for the past few years, including these M:tG books. I figured I could craigslist them for $3 or so, and get rid of what I could. Yet for some reason I checked Amazon first, and discovered many of these books are worth north of $20 (ebay shows about the same in bid offerings)especially the ones that setup the storyline before Urza become a planeswalker and the Ice Age time line. So I listed a few on Amazon; now to see if people actually pay these prices...
Some of the books were pretty good, but damn, not 300% markup good.
I learned something this morning.
In the US there are rules against campaigning in a polling place. This includes wearing your Democrats Rock tshirt, as well as things specifically endorsing a particular candidate.
In the great state of Georgia it has been determined that wearing Tea Party items does not count as campaigning, because the Tea Party is not a political party.
