About to boot it up.Rest assured, it's awesome. I was a bit disappointed though, on my first playthrough the game randomly selected me to play as Gandhi, and I was very much looking forward to the tiny Indian ruling with an iron fist, but the default graphics settings had to be changed...so far I'm a bit disappointed in the city-states; I think they were hyped a bit too much as they don't appear (yet) to add much to the gameplay, other than a random guy you should give 250 gold to every once in a while (which becomes very often) if you want them to like you simply because everyone else is doing it.
Demo was fun and runs well!![]()
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
I would ask Ziggy if it's any good, but I'll be lucky to see him again before I leave for college.![]()
I enjoy blank walls.
Well I think it's lots of fun.
Doesn't that mean the rest of you are supposed to hate it?
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.

Not sure about City States either. I know when you meet them, they give you money. I know when you enter their territory, they don't like it. I know that if they ask you to do something for them, they really like you afterwards when you do. I think they fill the gap in the world for little places that don't have much ambition, like Switzerland or Finland. It makes the world seem more complex and big. I think I'm going to kill a few tonight; see what that's like.
The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)
Killing them is easy.
Being allies with them gets you extra units, or food, and luxuries.
Oh, and if you declare war they'll be good little minions and fight, too.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
But for at least half the game there's no point in allying with them; you haven't got enough money and as far as I've played there's only been one war (Darius I started expanding Persia a little too close to my frontiers for my liking...that bastard never stood a chance) and his city-state ally contributed nothing. I like what Icon has said about their side quests and filling the void, but I think I still need a bit more convincing.
Also, since I'm knew to all this, is it really supposed to be this hard to acquire the resources your city wants? When I ask England for some whales or Russia for furs they either want every one of my resources and gold or won't make the trade at all. Hmmph.
City-states are great for getting those resources for you. They actually seem more useful to me in the early game, before you have the chance to conquer your neighbors and when gold is still plentiful. They seem pretty cheap to me for what you get. Especially if you can manage to do a mission or two for them. Useless in wars unless they're adjacent to your opponent, though.
Scuse me for sounding noobish, but what exactly would you say is midgame? I'm at 500AD right now, which I feel like is more than halfway just because of the time, but I realize I still have several ages ahead of me.
It's kinda subjective, but I'd say it's after all the initial colonization is done and where you have no way left to expand except through other nations, but not so far along yet that the game enders are in play.
I killed one at the request of another. Boy did I get popular. I was getting free food shipments to all my cities and free luxuriies. Fun stuff. I like the research agreements too. And I never pass on a secret pact offer!

One science victory for me...
*sigh*
Not nearly as satisfying as world domination - but I doubted my ability to properly crush Darius I since I allowed him to get to strong.
I had two crashes, now. Both happened when I had the city list open when I hit enter to go to my next turn.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
It's great. Good few hours of play yesterday and another few hours to come today. Can't remember the last time I woke up hangover-free on a saturday morn' ...
Hasn't crashed since switching to Dx9 either.
City states are v useful early in the game - I tend to ally with the militaristic ones to get free units out of them.
Not reached any gunpowder type units yet - can't wait till I do. Fighting is so much fun![]()
Playing on DX9, too, and still not getting tremendous framerate but this is so damn fun it doesn't matter. 3/5 of the way to a cultural victory, loving these research agreements! Now if Washington would learn to quit mounting his army. I was nice enough to let him keep Washington and Atlanta after our first bout... I'm liking my puppet states as well; 4 cities doing as they please, not counting against my great people or policy totals, so I'm content. Of course I am playing on the 2nd easiest difficulty.
Still in my first game, just discovered gun powder, going to go postal on everyone very soon.
So I been playin' awn Cheiften and ahm findin' it perty darn easy. What difficulty have y'all been playin' awn?

Wii Fit for now. My BMI is so low, that the game is unable to create a fitness plan for me because I would need to gain to much weight, it also said I had a Wii Fit age of 38
The different exercises are pretty cool, and Brandy seems to love it because she is better than me in just about every one of them. Stupid Yoga master rankSo what if I fall off the board a few times!
The age is determined more by your ballance than anything else. I ended up with 29 I think, which had me feeling pretty good. My obese brother in law was in the 50s the first time around but when we figured out it was a ballance thing he paid particularly careful attention to those tests and got a 24.

Started on prince, the last game (which I may not finish - world domination victory is pretty much a lock already) was whatever the level after prince is.
Switching to the one-unit-a-hex system seems to have left the tactical AI underpowered. It's pretty easy to consistently outmaneuver him. The poor thing always seems to be either doing a full charge, or occasionally when it's already too late, a retreat. I almost feel a bit guilty using feints, tactical withdrawals, rotating lines, choke point traps, etc to slaughter his army. Two cannons and a cavalry vs. ~9 musketmen and 4 cannons: who do you think wins? That's right - the three unit army.
Started playing an archipelago map on whatever 2 higher than chieftain is, 4 players. It's nearly 1000 BC and I've barely met anyone or grown/expanded. Don't think I'll be doing this again...
EDIT: Is anyone else having a hell of a time getting through the opening cinematic every time they open the game? I basically mash esc/space/enter/all mouse buttons until something happens, and it usually does after different amount of time.
I have the same problem. For some reason alt+tabbing out then back in seems to help it start acknowledging keystrokes.
I just won fairly easily (but badly) on Prince.
I can't decide if I want to play again - and if I do I don't know if I'll go up to the next level or try to this one better.
The best game I have had yet was the one before this when I played on the world map. My starting place was around where France is.
What size world have you been playing? I've had it so it is 7 AI + me.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
All my games so far have been on a small map, which I think is 5+me. I usually only ever see 3 of them, tops. If I go again, it'll be on a much larger map, but it'll probably be my last civ game for a while.
